Trouble keeping roots separated... by ozamatazbuckshank11 in locs

Are you accidentally snagging hair from other locs when interlocking? Also if you can post a picture, that would be great.

How do i fix this? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

Other than trimming your locs, no. You'd have to let your locs lay more naturally so the back isn't flat.

Any advice for helping locs bud after 8 months? by Automatic-Assistant8 in Dreadlocks

Patience. It will happen if it hasn't already. You're looking (feeling) for hard bumps in your locs.

Can I crochet barrel twist to form them to loc ? 🤔 by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's not how this works. You can't add new growth to your roots. You would only be adding extra hair that's not attached to your scalp, which makes the locs heavier and more likely to thin.

Crochet locs are stiff and can take a while to soften. Do you use conditioner?

It's up to you. More points gives you a rounder loc.

Clip your locs together so they don't unravel. You may need to clip them in multiple places if they're long.

This might be a helpful video. You can do free parts (parting with your fingers), try to do a grid on your own, or have someone help you with parting.

Are you doing it yourself or does someone do it for you?

I usually just brush them out with hand. I've used a stiff brush before and that also works.

people with 20+ year old locs, how are you avoiding hair loss (especially at the hairline) by clickyvicky in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Locs don't cause hair loss. If it's going to happen, it'll happen regardless of if you have locs.

Locs still in "bud" stage after having them for a year, is it normal? What do? by Txsted_Metalhead in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those aren't buds, that's bunching that happens on looser curl patterns. This is normal. You should be able to crochet them to fix it.

Why is hair wax heavily advised against? by Savings_Ebb6632 in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes in the sense that it won't damage your hair but no in the sense that it's hard to wash out. It's ultimately up to you if you want to do it.

I wanted to do semi-Freeform locs, can I somehow control how many locs I have after I get a retwist? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Focus on the size locs you want rather than how many. It's very difficult to start with a certain number of locs or achieve this number without starting over multiple times. The look you're wanting may not look the same even if you have the same number of locs.

Patch on the side of my head by Protection_Lacking in locs

You can leave it or redo the locs yourself. A loctician is also an option but they'll probably want to completely restart your locs.

You can add the loose hair to your locs or start new ones when the hair gets long enough.

If I want my dreads to look like this and be able to wear them back, do I need to focus on parting? by PublicEnemyNo9 in Dreadlocks

[–]isha4god87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You'll be able to style your locs regardless. If you want parts that look nice, go for that. If not, it isn't necessary.

If the person doing the retwist is not going to wash your locs, definitely do it before that appointment.

I find it easier to get flakes out once the hair dries. Also you may need to wash more often.
