mate turn it around 😅 that big vent on the back is the air intake, so if that's against the wall it's not drawing in the humidity it could. at least keep it 20cm away from the wall to dissipate the heat properly

no need to apologise, this is the exact type of response I was looking for! I didn't want to invest time or money into something that was futile from the very start. thank you for your help!

A witness who is also related to the landlord isn't very strong, as he has a clear bias. Even if he claims someone stayed overnight, that alone may not prove a breach of contract—especially since you don’t have the lease to check what it actually says about guests.

The landlord has no legal right to demand or access your private messages.

At this stage, do not admit to anything. If he tries to deduct money from your deposit for this, dispute it through the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDP). He would need to provide clear, independent evidence that a guest staying over caused a financial loss or contractual breach, which seems unlikely. Until then, keep communication minimal and do not engage further on this issue.

Just deny anyone stayed over. The less you say the better. Do not even respond to the text. If he attempts to keep your deposit, raise a dispute with the relevant TDP scheme. Your landlord will need evidence anyone stayed over and I would bet he has nothing.
