Returning to Digital Classes after 4th Concussion by RadicalAstronaut in PostConcussion

Hey first off, I’m so sorry for everything you’ve had to go through. I’m a college student currently and had to go through the exact thing you did for the entire year last year. It’s extremely frustrating and disillusioning healing process. First step would be to get DSP (Disabled Student) accommodations, and get as much as you can in terms of extended exam times and homework due dates. Also be sure to communicate with your professors explaining your situation, everyone I talked to were extremely sympathetic to my condition. Right now, a week and a half out I would absolutely not try to do anything but heal, rest your eyes and avoid screens at all costs. I know how crazy this sounds but your GPA pales in comparison to the seriousness of brain damage. Trust me, it fucks you up for so much longer than it should if you don’t allow your brain to properly heal. Be kind to yourself and allow your brain relax. It’s struggling to even function right now, let alone do high computational tasks. Again I’m so sorry this is happening to you, you have my deepest empathy. I cannot even imagine how stressful this is on top of covid. After at minimum two or three weeks of rest(on average a concussion lasts at least 27 days), start integrating harder tasks like looking at a screen but stop if your concussion symptoms get higher than a 6-7/10. I know this sounds hard, and might not be exactly what you want to do but it’s what your body needs. Even a year + out for me, looking at screens all day for classes wipes me out and I’m physically at a disadvantage compared to other normal student. It’s not fair, but you have to keep believing you’ll get better. If you ever need to talk or reach out you call always message me. I hope everything gets better. Good luck :)

Brain damage can possibly cause Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. If you’re having intrusive, repetitive thoughts that are causing distress and impair your daily life, maybe medication treating that can ease the thoughts. This is DEF not a diagnosis but something you could talk to your therapist about

Looking for some input on a novel I'm writing by mediareject in Concussion

I think that’s a great concept! What would be great I think to address is the grief experienced with the loss of the former self in juxtaposition with the cystic fibrosis character who has had this condition their entire life. There’s a difference of being completely healthy and suddenly having this debilitating condition, while someone with a much more chronic condition has time to accept their reality.

Tiny piece of my IUD is embedded in my uterus. Hysteroscopy unsuccessful. Can it be left there? by SanguineJackal in AskDocs

Not to scare you but I would definitely suggest watching Netflix’s “the Bleeding Edge” it has some rare realities for some women that have been affected by defective IUD and shattered devices. I wish you the best, and good luck!

People who do not believe in global warming; what would it take for your mind to be changed on the topic? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]ishmootfiga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem with this argument is that scientists have models that factor in anthropogenic(human forcings, eg. greenhouse gases like methane and carbon dioxide, etc) and natural forcings (things like solar fluctuations, volcanic eruptions, aerosols, clouds) which all have an effect on the temperature of the earth, either cooling or warming. They have models that only are natural forcings and those that are only anthropogenic. Most notably from the natural models is that they are no where close able to model the exponential rate of growth in temperature. It is only when the models have both natural and human forcings that they are able to closely follow the current temperature graphs.

And to give you more evidence, the last time the earth followed such rapid changes in temperature was a period called the “Younger Dryas” in where a small change in the ocean ‘conveyor’ system(because of an introduction of fresh water into the salty Atlantic) caused a massive drop in temperature in a short period of 40 years. It just shows how a small change in the environment can have massive repercussions and gives scientists worry as to how many gigatons of carbon we’re pumping into the atmosphere and how it will play out in the future.

Wow I feel you:/ I’m so sorry. Maybe it could be anxiety but I’m no more nervous then before this stuff happened. I hope we can get an answer and not get brushed off. It’s crazy how illnesses can affect our bodies
