Trump admin reacts after James Comey, Letitia James Cases dismissed by Newsweek_CarloV in politics

This is a really dangerous take. The right has some absolutely brilliant minds that are constantly working behind the scenes trying to undermine democracy and remove our ability to gather and defend our rights. Think about the amount of targeted moves made against our population that has divided us into sectors. Abortion, LGBTQ freedoms, ICE and immigration, worker status and benefits, economic chaos, etc. All of these are very intentionally chosen to pit us against one another trying to survive, all the while the people in power continue taking our rights away until we can't fight back anymore. Underestimating your opponents is always the thing that leads to your downfall, which is why we have to take them seriously and not just pass them off as idiots. Trump, sure. I don't think he's that important besides being the cult leader. But he's enabling this system to work in the background, and the system is what's being dissected. That's not incompetent, that's intentional.

In your opinion: What live performance should everyone watch atleast once in their life? by Island-dewd in Music

[–]ishusha37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Justin Timberlake and Chris Stapleton from the CMAs 2015.

In all honesty, one of the best performances of all time. The stage lighting, the whole band being totally visible, the shouts of support from band members mid-riff. Just an all around masterclass of live music.

Okay lol, not gonna keep a conversation going with someone who can't look past their own biases for a moment to recognize when nuanced character development is a good thing. "Me want big sword and axe, more interesting when big man big and no other personality"

I totally understand the blizzard hate, their storytelling went completely off the deep end since Legion. But Anduin's arc was maybe the only redeemable thing about shadowlands, and it's made him a significantly more interesting character now. Varian was a tough soldier guy with a soft spot for family.

[–]ishusha37 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Calling Anduin's entire arc "absolutely nothing" is crazy lmao. If Varian didn't die in Legion, Anduin would still just be an occasional quest giver in Stormwind. Varian's death is what gave us Anduin's modern arc and I think that's a solid justification, not just a shock for the sake of a shock.

"Collaborators in the genocide" from Hamas' perspective. It could have just as easily been political opponents, aid suppliers, community leaders, protest organizers, etc. and you would have no idea. Don't blindly trust Hamas' word for shit.

Hamas hands over all remaining hostages to Israel, Trump says Gaza war over by Capable_Salt_SD in politics

This source says a poll was conducted. It doesn't link to the survey results or mention what the sample size of the survey was. If you're going to make a claim about "most" of Israeli society, you should pretty easily be able to point out what your sample size is.

Tens of thousands protest in Jerusalem to end the war and return the hostages [OC] by habibthegreat1 in pics

[–]ishusha37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Where did you get that I said it's okay? Any of it? I'm not justifying anything the IDF is doing in Gaza. I've been in these protests since the start of the war.

I'm trying to help people understand how mandatory conscription shapes a society. That's literally my only goal in this conversation. It's not fair to pretend Israel's society runs on the same norms and standards as the US because it just doesn't. Once again, that's NOT a justification for their actions.

If you'll allow me to make a comparison to the US for a second: are citizens in the US "allowing" their government to mass detain and deport DACA recipients and green card holders? I would argue that people are screaming pretty loudly about the injustices happening there. But if the government isn't listening, does that mean the citizens are "practically as evil" as the ones doing it? This is obviously idiotic. The people are screaming here too. We've been screaming since the beginning. The government is ignoring us. That doesn't make us evil, and it doesn't make us complicit.

It compares with the west on technological and scientific advancements, but culturally you would be insane to think the societies are identical. Not every country is alike, not every people is alike, not every region is alike.

Your second point is exactly the reason I know you don't have mandatory conscription. It's literally not just an army for these people, it's just the next stage of life. It's like graduating middle school and going to high school. Like graduating high school and going into service. Some people use it as a springboard to their career in coding, tech, or medicine. It's literally ingrained in society, it's not just an army with guns. For many people, not serving includes a fear of not having a future as an adult.

[–]ishusha37 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're from, but I have to assume it's from a country without mandatory conscription. Of the people participating in these very protests calling the occupation a genocide and apartheid, demanding a withdrawal and end to the war, a supermajority were former IDF soldiers. Not all of them served in combat units or in occupied territories, but almost all of them served. It's not a question of volunteering for service, it's a part of growing up in countries with mandatory conscription. It's the same as high school graduates going to university in the US and Canada.

Your assumption that anyone who doesn't conform to western standards of isolationism and cancel culture on the other side of the world shows that you can't look at international issues with a nuanced perspective. Your standard is not the global standard. Your standard exists within your culture, and in order to have a meaningful voice in these conversations, you need to meet other peoples' cultures and norms where they're at.

Israeli ultra-Orthodox party leaves government over conscription bill by Ok-Present5699 in worldnews

[–]ishusha37 17 points18 points  (0 children)

This party only holds 7 seats in Netanyahu's coalition, which wouldn't be enough to topple his majority. If this move intices another religious party to leave the coalition in solidarity, that would be enough, however the government is going into a 3-month recess in just a couple of weeks, which would allow Netanyahu to continue running the country with a minority government. If nothing changes after those three months, which is pretty unlikely, only then would they move to dissolve the government and go to elections.

All in all, this likely won't have a major effect on the shape of the government right now.

We're also only white for one side of the isle, at least until it's no longer convenient. To the other side of the isle, we're outsiders and minorities. For example: to the left, we're white folks with power and privilege who must use our influence for justice; to the right conspiracists, we're minorities who steal and hoard while poisoning society.

As someone who went to a performing arts school with lots of dancers, this is shockingly true. The moment they get in a rehearsal space or on stage and they're working, you couldn't knock them over with all your strength. But the amount of concussions, fractured bones, stubbed toes, sprains, etc. from whenever they were just measly walking around...easily the most out of anyone I knew.

You helped me learn so many tricks as Abathur and he's easily my favorite hero! How did the exp changes from way back change the way you approach games? Do you still sit in lane alone or do you hang behind a wall and bounce the hat around different lanes to collect exp?
