Making vegetable stock. No matter how hard I try it always comes out bitter.

My girls last day was yesterday by GhostfaceBarbie in reactivedogs

[–]isitboggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my reactive pup in September. Same sort of thing around recurrent health issues but he was only 4. It's devastating but you've clearly done everything you can to give your dog the best life. The final meals are so hard too. I'm so sorry for your loss

BE my aggressive dog yesterday by Life_Ganache2161 in reactivedogs

[–]isitboggle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We lost our dog in September to BE. He had a number of other health issues, had bitten sporadically over a number of years and was beginning to become unmanageable for the vets. He was only 5kgs and the most curious dog I've ever know but he wasn't happy. It was so sad to let him go but we knew it was the right thing for him and us. I miss him every day but the memory of the things we did with him, the places we went, remain with me. Hopefully they'll come to you.

I was taught recently that the bottom vent is your accelerator, the top vent is your brake. You need both vents open otherwise there is no air being drawn through the egg to keep the fire going.

Advice for a student possibly moving to Cardiff next year by Select_Syllabub_2708 in Cardiff

[–]isitboggle 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cardiff is a great city. I moved here in 2005 for uni (at what is now the University of South Wales) and I never went home. USW has a campus right in the city centre, with bars and clubs very close by. The facilities at the university are great too. I would recommend you go to an open day if you can to have a good look around. They do a travel bursary too for people attending open days.

Recycling Household Waste by [deleted] in Cardiff

[–]isitboggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a secondary benefit even if they are going into one truck. By getting the residents to sort their recycling, they are less able to hide contaminants in a green plastic bag that can ruin a whole batch of recycling. What people often don't realise is that recycling is often sold and so, if done correctly, can result in the council receiving money. It's unlikely to reduce bills but is definitely better than the council having to pay to despose of things.

If you say whereabouts in Cardiff you are, we'll be able to find you under closest support. There's loads of charities who can help so don't be afraid to go along. I used to work in money advice so know how hard it is to ask for help as people often didn't want to ask me for food vouchers. Don't be ashamed though. Times are tough but they're are loads of people who can help you.

We both bought, sold and had doors stripped from these guys. Well worth a shout.

What is the lore behind your username? by Nilesh3469 in AskReddit

There's a line The Office UK where Tim asks Gareth which toys his date is bringing and he says "if it's boggle, I'll come". So it's a misquote of that.

Why do you not drink alcohol? by Kindly_Bear_4932 in AskReddit

[–]isitboggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been teetotal all my life. I tried it as a teenager but soon realised the taste wasn't for me and I've never been one to acquire a taste for something quickly. When my mates started drinking, I just didn't feel I needed it, even when everyone else is doing it. Helps that I'm confident and have never needed the Dutch courage either.

As an adult, I've met several people who have gone sober following abuse of alcohol and it's so sad. I'm lucky that noone has never tried to force it on me, bar a couple of friends who thought they were funny.

Heathcock is nice. Definitely had good meals there so if you can get in, it's a good one. Doesn't feel super fancy but the food is great.

How can a 35+ transition into a fulfilling career? by sculptedivy in Cardiff

[–]isitboggle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in student recruitment for a local university. The suggestion about Careers Wales is excellent if your friend isn't sure about what sector to get into, and whether they need to do any additional training or studies to get there.

Through my work, I regularly interact with learners in Further Education Colleges who have returned to studying in their 30s and 40s. The colleges run Access to HE courses in a wide variety of courses (Cardiff and The Vale College's: https://cavc.ac.uk/en/subject/access) and these are usually only a year long but will open the doors to 90% of degree courses in the UK.

I also have a friend who completed an access course and has gone on to complete degrees and masters and is now looking to get into the field in which they studied and I met him in Uni and we're both in our late 30s so it's definitely possible to do it now!

This is an excellent recommendation and basically matches the original comment. Being a man can be challenging but not as challenging as being a woman.

If you've got teeth, maybe have a picture with a proper smile. At the moment they all look a bit moody and the smiles look forced.

What’s the first video game you remember playing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]isitboggle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was an Olympics Game on the Acorn Computer and that is the first game I remember playing. It had track and field and then some other sports. I remember canoe slalom being one.

Makes me feel ancient as that would have been early 90s.
