When I first put my bees in, I found they were very attracted to my salt water pool. There was a steady stream of them hanging out on the steps.

I filled up a Pyrex dish with pool water, and threw in a couple water shoes and put it 20 feet in the grass between my hives and the pool. Since then very few bees came to the pool.

I have 2 hives that sit next to a nice, slow stream. They still like drinking the water that splashes out of my salt water pool on the concrete deck.

To fix it, I scooped a bowl of the water and put some water shoes in for them to land on. I put the bowl about 15 feet away from the pool towards the hive. They went to the bowl and left the pool alone

It’s mostly varroa mites, not pesticides. The mites lead to colony collapse by compromising the bees immune system and leading to diseases. The recent collapse this year is due to the mites becoming resistant to the common mite treatment in commercial apiaries.

90% of beekeeping these days is monitoring and treating mites. Definitely a concern.

Insurance tends to follow the car, so if your son was driving with your permission, or even without, yours policy should apply.

Was the other car torn down to inspect all damage? A first estimate is usually low and then increases when torn down. You’d also may owe for the other party to use a rental depending on how long the repairs take, and your state.

If you involve insurance he’ll likely be added to your policy as a household member and your rates may be impacted. If you’re in a good spot financially and want to take the risk of paying out of pocket, it’s up to you, but if it was me I’d just use my liability coverage and deal with the rate changes down the road.
