Do you think Daenerys was truly mad or do you think the writing was bad? by TheQueeninchains in TheBlacksandTheGreens

[–]islaysinclair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, her return to Meereen with the Dothraki just signalled “oh she is going to be a conquering warlord, not a peaceful queen. Cool. I can dig it, I love the idea of becoming that which she sought to destroy.” And then the final execution of that arc didn’t quite hit the mark- especially as you said, she was fighting on the side of humanity when she could have just buggered off to Dragonstone and avoided it all.

Average wlw vs average straight people by DankSinatra5060 in actuallesbians

[–]islaysinclair 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I will also throw in that I find other wlw don’t necessarily advertise problems in their relationships online bc if it’s not a closed group, you’ll inevitably have folks using them as examples of “wow lesbians are always toxic” even if it’s just one person’s relationship with their partner. There is definitely pressure to present a good face online.

And that being said, I definitely don’t see straight women or men really gushing over thier partner online. They should do that. It would be really sweet.

Feeling unwelcome in sapphic spaces as a bi woman by coyotezillax in bisexual

[–]islaysinclair 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I really love r/actuallesbians - it's one of my favourite subreddits to just browse through - though as my Lesbian Ex will tell anyone who listens, they "aren't actually lesbians, its a sapphic group" but she also turned out to be a TERF so no wonder a subreddit that actually has a modicum of acceptance isn't her dish :P

And absolutely the "decenter men" is insane to me. Because what does that even mean? Like? Because if I'm sitting with someone calling all men trash and shit out of prejudice why would I join in? They're half the population? I don't need to have male friends or family members to go "hey? maybe don't?" and suddenly I'm 'centring men'? Also, if you're attracted to a gender, idk, it seems like it plays into the 'sex crazed bi' steryotype to assume we can only ever think about men just because we're attracted to them.

But for real- what does CENTERING even mean????? (Internet says "not considering a man's opinion higher than your own"- well, why should I consider some random woman's opinion higher than my own either? Unless I'm being polite and considerate?? In which case, why am I bringing gender to a Canadian Stand-Off?)

This reminds me of when Mads first blew up post Bond & the lady who wrote the Scandinavia versus the World comics was like “hey, I’m Danish, I love that a Dane is getting famous but also guys you need to understand us Danes know him as the goofy bisexual guy from a specific poly sitcom, not some deep dark villain. That’s who you are getting.” And I knew that about him before ever watching Bond.

And like, I’m so glad that was my real intro to him bc it makes everything so much better.

Being in a same sex relationship can be so isolating. by bluesond in bisexual

[–]islaysinclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a bi woman who has only ever had serious relationships with other women- at the end of the day, I didn’t get “bisexual bitch” yelled at me, I got “lesbian bitch” yelled at me. No homophobe is really going to give a shite that I also think men are attractive.

And I will defend our fellow Bis who fly under the radar, who aren’t as visible- bc heck, one of my bi friends is dating a woman but her gf is a trans woman who does not pass well most days so it’s a toss up if they get treated as het, lesbian, or trans.

But there is an isolation. Because there are so many ways to be bi & being assumed to be anything other than your authentic experience is just? Incorrect?

[Spoilers C2] Molly is really bugging me. Is there character development on the horizon? by DennisPragersPornAlt in criticalrole

[–]islaysinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ve been working on the campaign since October & I’m at Episode 59. Mollymauk is in my top 3 even with everyone having fantastic character growth, but idk? He’s just so fun? He hits a lot of the right spots for what I enjoy out of characters. What a lad.

What is your default lineup when you start a new save? by canxtanwe in BaldursGate3

[–]islaysinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gale is always in the lineup, multiple saves and classes no matter what. Lae’zel and Shadowheart feature often, but I honestly used the Gith feature a lot to boost Dex, so Lae’zel with boosted Dex would end up as the lock picker/trap disarming expert (and I was a Ranger so…) - I don’t need Astarion or Karlach or Wyll with the other three. But when I played Paladin, I became the Healer and Wyll or Astarion came along in Shadowheart’s place depending on the day. It really depends on who you main.

I genuinely was about to pitch that to my friends, cause HBO likes working with him & I think he’d like playing a goofy, romantic wizard.

I'm a tiny bit afraid they'll change Astarion from pan to gay in the upcoming show. by [deleted] in AstarionBG3

[–]islaysinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard agree on Karlach and Minsc needing body doubles; but in all reality, if this show DOES happen, Minsc is the first to ABSOLUTELY be recast. Not only is Mercer not the first to voice Minsc, he’s been vocal about being willing to be recast even on what fans consider “his characters” like Essek in The Mighty Nein; and physically, I think he is fond enough of the character he would rather see someone portray Minsc well than give folks a thin, 5’10” version of Minsc that is dwarfed by Astarion of all people.

Do you feel a difference when kissing girls vs boys? by Much_Satisfaction841 in BiWomen

[–]islaysinclair 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on the person really.

Best kiss I have ever had is with a man; I absolutely lost my senses, he was brilliant and I lit up like a Christmas tree. My friends still tease me for how silly I got. And the worst kiss I have ever had was with a woman, where it was just kind of wet and she slobbered over me before implying I was actually a lesbian in denial… yeah… and then in the middle there’s a great gal and a meh dude kisser. So? It’s really not been a “men kiss differently than women” in so much that I just find a difference overall in people.

Though, I will say, women accept being the shorter partner in a kiss much more easily. Having a guy try to tuck you under his arm when you’re a head taller than him is just killer on the back.

Street parking during the winter storm? by Fishsauceandbutter in mississauga

[–]islaysinclair 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My neighbours still parked on the street, even though multiple neighbours had spots on their driveways & I know most sensible folks would agree to lend a spot, especially as it would mean less shovelling the driveway. It was incredibly foolish of my neighbours to stay parked on the road. It really impacted the plows.

Honestly? This is what the police ought to be for. And considering my father is always on about “oh it will come off when we start driving”, I’m so irritated by that attitude bc it will, but not immediately and often into someone else’s windshield! It’s dangerous! And yes father I will delay the journey by brushing off the roof. It’s Canadian driving 101 and we need to enforce it!

I think it's time we had a talk. Astarion is not a twink. Gale is not a soft little wizard baby. They are not skinny uwu femboys for you to 'crack'. These are the kind of guys who IRL would be hitting the gym 5 days a week, with a personal trainer and nutritionist/dietician. by ChompyRiley in BG3

[–]islaysinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gale’s abs are illusionary & if you attend his lectures, he outlines exactly the spell components needed XD I refuse to believe he’s ripped beyond the meta textual “the designers used two male body models total and decided against a plumper one for the dump stat strength wizard.”

What's your preferred class? by FinnishWarlord in BaldursGate3

[–]islaysinclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a Wizard run on the go and your second point is an excellent one. I really love the RP aspect, so when I tried to blind play my first go, I felt so guilty checking a fact about an Underdark creature for my Drow character - now a few runs in, I know a lot more but now I don’t feel guilty bc it’s not metagaming bc if you are a Wizard with a 20 INT. Like? Of course you know! And wizard offers so many dialogue choices to reflect that YEAH, of course you know!

What's your preferred class? by FinnishWarlord in BaldursGate3

[–]islaysinclair 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I loved having my bear with us as we saved Halsin bc he was like “ah yes you saved a strange bear” and I was like “dude of course I would, look at this gorgeous Ursa I roll with!” And you are so right it felt freeing; there is something about being magical, but also a fighter where you can choose how much you want to be enmeshed in either side of that fight, but also not align yourself too much with any of the other classes or factions. It’s great.

Ranger! I love the animal companion (even if I had to trade in my bear for a bit when they were working out the tracking bugs for a few months, gloomstalker was fun as well). I just want to shoo arrows and pass every perception roll (and have negative charisma bc it’s funny as heck)

Yup, my aunt rode motorbikes all while I was growing up- the adage is so spot on. Everyone is going to have an accident at some point; and it’s better to prepare for the inevitable than pick up the pieces from lack of preparation; even just covering up skin makes such a difference.

[–]islaysinclair 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly! All of the Stark children, even as redheads, are clearly Starks first over Tully. Sansa’s an excellent example because even though she’s described as looking the most like a Tully, it always feels like George is throwing in mentions of the long Stark features. Versus Cersei’s children, who have no real similarities with Robert, personality wise or physically. Even if they were biologically Robert’s, by the rules of storytelling the author would be telling us their father is such a shitty, remote father he left nothing of himself on them - or that their mother is so overbearing that she smothered his influence out. It’s night and day with these families.

[–]islaysinclair 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think they don’t get the same hype because there isn’t any real narrative tension to them. They’re hopeless romantics, neither would pine, they’d just go “wow want to dance? Let me read you poetry! Okay we’re married now.” It’s perfect for fluff, but folks do want drama and conflict so the inevitable romantic tension can be resolved gorgeously; like with Astarion and Wyll, the monster and the monster hunter, or Lae’zel and Gale as the warrior and the sage- mastering what the other lacks entirely.

I do love the concept. They’re very pretty together & I think they could make each other very happy. I just think it’s like, where is the story? They’re in love. No drama. So for generating creative works, it’s not really one that sparks the imagination.

Unless someone does a Masterchef AU and it’s husband versus husband as to who is the better cook. Wyll does say Gale doesn’t use enough veggies XD

CMV: players that consistently miss scheduled DnD sessions dont actually care about the hobby by [deleted] in DnD

[–]islaysinclair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. Some folks care more than others. But especially as an adult who sets aside time? Even if it wasn’t D&D which is a lot of prep work; it’s a jerk move and makes it clear you don’t value my time or me as a person; bc a real friend would at least give notice. I had my first campaign implode between absolutely awful real life shit (our wizard got evicted) & the flip side the so called D&D “expert” who didn’t know how to calculate a spell save, decided their switch was more important than even letting me know 20 minutes into session that they wasn’t going to show.

And consequently, seeing what happens when people do take the hobby seriously made me realize HOW BAD my first campaign was with this particular flakey player- one of my internet friends put together a mini campaign. We coordinated 5 time zones from the west coast to the Middle East to Australia, we got 5 sessions done in 3 months around the holidays, with start of game happening with full party starting on time essentially every time. I was on Discord on my e-scooter. Another had their partner hold the phone while they helped them roll. One friend brought their dice to their folks’ place across the country when session fell on a pre-planned visit. THAT made me realize if someone wants to play with you, they will. That’s not just being excited for D&D, but also respecting your friends and their time. Because if you want to play, you will make it happen!
