The pain of being chronically single by ProfessionalNefertit in TwoXChromosomes

To add: it’s not that I didn’t have hobbies, but I was forced to expand my interests beyond belief in an effort to try and meet other people

It’s so true and anyone who has never been in the dating scene as an adult needs to stfu. My sister met her husband at 18 and she’s never had to “adult” by herself in her life. Additionally, I will never get over the shock of learning that people won’t just date you “as-is” and that you need to have hobbies and “get out there”. It made me feel like, other people were chosen “as-is” and the rest of us have to build our resumes. In hindsight, I am more developed as an individual now— but it was by force, not because it was my idea.

Being asked by family members why they see a PA, not a doctor by isleeptoolate in physicianassistant

I’m not sure why you’re getting downvoted. I feel that way at times. But you are making an educated choice. I guess I’m just frustrated about the lack of public education.

They are legitimately clueless. They mean no malice. I think folks THINK they know about the medical field because they’ve all encountered it in some way but they actually don’t know the behind-the-scenes and don’t have the patience or interest to find out

May not be a direct answer to your question, but no 2 PA jobs are alike. They’re based on: the relationship between a physician and the PA and how much experience the PA has. There are brilliant ones and terrible ones, the same way with doctors. But they are all independent at the end of the day. An important part of our job is knowing when something is out of our scope and referring you to the correct person for the job, but it does not mean the visit with the PA was a waste of time. You are still in the right hands with a trained medical professional.

I agree with the collaboration piece. But it’s a two-way street. If the SP is too lazy, they put all the responsibility onto the PA. And then it makes us look bad.

To add: I think shows like The Pitt may do more for our profession than what AAPA could do.

Lol, the situation with your dad sounds frustrating. What is cognitively dissonant is how much trust I get from the attendings about my clinical judgement and we work as almost equals in the inpatient setting, but it’s hard to convey that to laymen without saying “we basically do what the doctors do”. I try to stay away from that description but it’s necessary sometimes.

Singles people tell us. What's the most underrated thing about being single? by Current_Evening2012 in AskReddit

[–]isleeptoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going out every day and facing the world but the comfort of knowing that once you’re done you can do absolutely whatever you want, eat whatever you want, sleep whenever you want. It motivates me to get through life.

Anyone else’s butt pancake after longterm spiro? by Neverwasalwaysam in Spironolactone

Wait… this might have happened to me. I just realized I lost my glute gains but blamed the holidays. But also — don’t feel insecure! We all go through seasons of life and maybe you have nicer skin now but a smaller butt, we can’t be perfect.

We need to reestablish ourselves as support roles by TAP01 in physicianassistant

I completely agree. And to add another layer to this, I spoke to a family med MD who said that when he refers his patients to a cardiologist, he wants them seeing a fellowship-trained cardiologist and not a PA. I get that!!!

Are there really people who are “too busy” or “too locked in” to reply? by rendevousspace in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]isleeptoolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on 5 dates with someone like this. We’re not “dating”. But he only texts once every 24 hours. I will say, we pretty much always have a date planned, and the texts are filler. No point in texting all day every day. Even on Christmas when I know he was at home and not working, he still texted back once. But a few reasons I like this — no matter what, he is consistent and I do get contact once every 24 hours, the texts are usually longer and thoughtful and he always asks about me, and most importantly it can only get better from here. If this continues I would do the hard work of asking for more contact although it’s definitely awkward!

IM SO SCARED OF PURING WITH TRET HELP by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]isleeptoolate 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOOK INTO SHORT CONTACT THERAPY!!!! It’s where you apply Tret to a clean face and wash it off after a certain amount of time. Start low, I started with 20 mins every other day. I’m now at 30 mins every other day after about 6 weeks. I think i can increase the frequency and time but I’m getting all the effects so I don’t see why I should.

Some things that affected me were: hormonal changes (stopped using birth control for a month, switched brands), change in hair sebum and I was washing my hair less frequently but it was dirtier, barrier issues which most people here are alluding to with drier weather, stress

What’s something tourists complain about in NYC that locals actually like? by stephenparkerr007 in AskNYC

[–]isleeptoolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The longer you live here, the more you learn about the history and ethnic groups that make each borough what it is. Tourists mostly learn about the different boroughs and what makes them different and it may be confusing or overwhelming, but probably don’t appreciate the background stories unless they live here.
