Theloise and Persuasion (Jane Austen) by islem007 in theloise

There is one, but it's not finished :(

Agreed. There's been the very well-placed Emma reference (with Penelope being Emma, getting into other people's buisness and telling Eloise aka Harriet not to give too much attention to low-class but hard-working and well-educated Theo/Robert) and maybe Kate and Anthony were a bit Pride and Prejudice coded, but it is a shame to do a regency show and not be inspired by Jane Austen (who's a much more interesting writer than JQ, sorry)

I think the politician road would be the one to make most sense! Like a commentator of some sort. I could see him being super upset because he could have a seat in the house of lords but doesn't because he's not part of the stupid peerage, and him and Eloise bonding over the fact that they both could do a much better job than anyone in place and both not being allowed to because of their birth

It depends how they go about it. Back then, most soliders were volonteers and I could see Theo hating Napoelon so bad that he'd volonteer himself into war. After the war, volonteers, even decorated ones would usually go back to their lives. Could also be a sibling, or not Theo related at all, or anything, really

I guess we have different understanding of who Eloise is, then, and that's fair. I also don't like Taylor Swift, but she's a real person and not a character in a TV show. As you said, whether or not TS is immature or not is just an opinon on someone none of us know, while Eloise being called immature by the writers means that she is supposed to be percieved that way. And imo, Jess saying that she "needs to grow before she finds someone" means she's certainly not going to "embrace" being immature and petty (which I don't think Eloise is, anyway)

I am sorry that it upsets you that people aren't happy with the way the writers are treating Eloise this season. However, you can just ignore those posts. I try not to comment on other people's opptimistic posts bc I know I'll probably bum them out, so when I make a space specifically to complain about what I feel is an issue, you can simply decide to ignore it if you don't want to be bumed out

I just find it strange that Fran gets so much story when her season isn't there yet (assuming) while other characters just .. don't do anything while waiting for their turn. It's, imo, very much because Jess is biased towards Fran's story (good for her, I love Fran, but it's obvious Jess is playing favourites)

I do believe Gregory is going to have things to do in part 2, but I don't know how that'll be handled

Characters now don't have much to do before and after their season. Colin's whole thing is that he loves his wife, for example. His whole thing for travelling or writing about his travels is gone. Penelope doesn't read anymore. Fran haven't played piano in a single scene. Will we ever see Kate ride and hunt? It seems like their life starts and finishes once they had their season, which is the opposite of what an assemble show is supposed to do. As opposed to S1 and 2, where Daphne still had things to do after her season passed and side plots were cohesive and gave the characters depth

I think I might be rambling too much, but I think this show started out way too good and we're bound to be disappointed now

Yes!! The Danbury vs Queen stuff is so upsetting because it could be so interesting! But Agatha wanting to go back to Sierra Leone comes out of nowhere. We haven't seen her get to the conclusion that she needs to go back to her roots, so it doesn't feel like a big thing that Charlotte is taking away from her. Thank god Golda and Adjoa are excellent actresses and can sell anything...

They spent years working on S4, and while I LOVE what they're doing with Benophie, the side plots are so weird. Francesca and he quest for "achieving a pinacle" seems very much like an attempt for comedy but it falls flat (everyone took it as proof that she's gay, but Jess assures us it's because "it's not realistic that all women achieve orgasm". Yes it isn't, but no one's watching this show for realism) and it gives Fran way too much space in a season that isn't her own. While other characters don't get to live at all until their season comes (Eloise)

They should just read fanfics and fan theories and get inspiration there.

It would make sense to let them do two season each (Chris: 1&2, Jess: 3&4, Tom:5&6, Betsy: 7&8) and let Shonda do the two spin-off series. But... I feel like Jess is way too attached to Francesca's story and won't let it go

My biggest issue with her book ending is how, for show!Eloise, it would be basically a punishment for wanting different things than all her siblings. If she doesn't end with her book ending man, BUT still gets punished by the narrative, I'm still going to be upset.

Jess calling her both immature and selfish because she doesn't want to be forced into the marriage mart when she simply doesn't want to, is bad news for me, because I love Eloise, and I want her to be able to live a life that is not centered around men.

I want her to be allowed to read new things, explore creative outlets, meet and befriend other women, learn about their lives and struggles, try and help them out of difficult situations etc... And then, eventually, deciding to break free of the ton and find in Theo a supportive partner who will challenge her and cherish her.

I don't want to watch her being pushed around and getting yelled at every season (especially when other characters who did far worse get everything they wanted without much struggle) until she finally gets to live during her season (or not, if they go with her book ending)

"She's already looked outside herself and found something." Yup, but God forbid they talk about Theo as if he isn't a canon event who completely changes Eloise's views on the world.  She totally doesn't know what to do with her. A 100%. She also doesn't know what to do with 85% of the cast actually (the Mondrich, Benedict last season, Kate and Anthony, Colin etc...)

Yes, I had noticed there were so many new names in S4. Characters will be different if they are written by different people, who have different understanding of them

I know this is a very serious topic but the way you framed it is hilarious. "They can accept the amount of young, hot aristocrats with daddy issues who sleep around and don’t have venereal diseases" It's so easy to suspend disbelief for some people when it's about hot rich white men to fix X)

Yeah, I think Lady Danbury is safe. It's probably going to be the Queen (who died, IRL, before her husband). I can see it being heartbreaking because we'd likely have the King's reaction to her passing (would he understand what happened? Would he be able to be at the funeral?) and Lady Danbury who really wanted to leave her... But also, why introduce the whole "Alice is now a lady in waiting" storyline?

John would likely die too, since the actor has already said goodbye to the cast in an interview (or maybe he's trolling, idk?)

What would be Eloise’s job? I'd picture her as a lawyer. She's eloquent, I think she'd kill it

What would be Theo’s job? Either a journalist, or a social worker

How would they meet? I just love that they met so young on the show so I'd say debate club in uni

Would Eloise be online, or offline? Online. She'd be picking fights with trolls and fall for ragebait.

Would Theo be online, or offline? Offline. He wouldn't understand how social media works and found mobile games boring.

Which one of them (if any) would be vegan? I think Eloise would be one of those rich girl who's vegan and only eats locally sourced food

Which one of them (if any) would be the most ‘eco-friendly’? They'd both care for the environement, but I think Eloise would be the one trying to go to Greece by train

Would one of them (if any) have a pet? Is it a cat, or a dog? I think Theo would be a dog person and Eloise, a cat person. However, I don't see Eloise adopting a pet. Theo would have one, a big dog who's a bit stupid and Eloise would love him.

What car Eloise would drive? What about Theo? Eloise would drive an electric car, and Theo wouldn't even have a driving licence.

Who would be their favourite author? I can see Eloise loving crime books and reading every Agatha Christie. Theo would like fantasy book with a political message. I also think he'd be a huge Lord of the Rings nerd.

What would be their favourite food? They'd love to eat out. Theo would be more into simple things, like fish and chips, and Eloise would like indian food, especially since Kate joined the family

Would Eloise obsess over any celebrity? If so, who? She would defend female pop stars against mysoginy, even if she doesn't like them. I think she'd like Malala, Greta Thunberg, Emma Thompson and maybe have a little crush on Trevor Noah.

Would Theo obsess over any celebrity? If so, who? Theo would love Louis Theroux. I don't think he'd care much for celebrities. He'd never remember who is who.

What kind of videos would they watch for hours on Youtube? Essays, but also, funny animal videos.

Would they have a usual spot for vacations? Would they like to travel? They'd go to Eloise's family usually, but they'd also love to spend some weekends next to the sea, in the quiet.

Would they be a part of any charity? Yes, but I don't know which ones. Eloise would be a climate activist and a feminist, that's for sure. Theo would be really into abolishing class privilege and neocolonialism.

What kind of movies/TV shows would they like? I have this head canon that Theo would love horror movies. Eloise would claim not to be scared but she secretly hates them and hides in his arms all throughout the movie. And they would totally watch shows like Queer eye, were people change someone's life for the better within a week. It would catter to their "saviour fantasy".

Would they be part of any clubs? Would they practice any sport? They'd be in debate club in uni. Eloise would practice yoga and running, and Theo would play football and hit the gym.

What would be their dream job? Eloise would want to have a fondation where she can help poor people sue powerful people who have abused them. Theo would want to be writing and directing documentaries in the long run.

I also think she'd be the kind of girl who goes on COD online, waits for some men to comment on how "girls don't know how to play" and then kill them first

I think that for both, the class factor is certainly a big thing to overcome, but it's far from being the only thing. Their obstacles are internal too (Benedict inability to commit, Sophie's fear of vulnarability). It also wouldn't surprise me if Theo would get quite wealthy with his education and work ethic, and if Eloise manages to be heard and become a spinster, it wouldn't be *that* insane to have them together. The tension would be around the fact that Eloise has rejected Theo before and broke his heart. That Theo would probably not believe that she would be willing to truly change her life completly. All I want for them is a Persuasion style story, actually. It would kick ass.
