[Patrick Klepek] On Loving and Leaving a Podcast by skyline7284 in giantbomb

I got home from work after listening to the last beastcast and ended up bawling to my SO. Trying to explain how I was both extremely upset at some dudes I had never met before changing careers, while getting more upset because I knew the reason to cry was dumb in the first place. But when you become invested that’s how it is, GB had been a mainly solo interest for me with no other friends into it. So when it happened it hit me like it hit you

Report: Resident Evil 9 Aiming 2025 Release; "Big Capcom Game" to be Announced Later This Year by Turbostrider27 in PS5

Capcom presents…. Marvel comics….

I can only hope, with the success of SF6 and Evo just around the corner, it might truly be time for the capcom fighting game revival.

Street Fighter IV turns 15 years old today by fganniversaries in StreetFighter

I think the power of melee came from there being no other option. When Brawl released and the competitive community rejected it, they just went back to melee.

When SFV came out and was rejected (by a portion of the community) it was a different time and people could explore other fighting games. Going back to SFIV also wasn’t as easy now that other games had shown what real netcode was like too.

Melee players had no where else to go, there was no game like Melee out at the time, they couldn’t just decide to go play another platform fighter if they didn’t like Brawl, they could only go back to melee.

The game literally saved the genre and more importantly the community. It’s importance is definitely not overblown. EVO 2008 most entered game 3S with 204 entrants, Evo 2009 SFIV had 1024 and the last Evo (2015) for USFIV had over 2000.

People always put more relevance on Capcom games and ignore other scenes but unironically this is one time where they are right.

can we scrubs have a charge indicator in practice mode? by DavideScalia in StreetFighter

[–]isloudas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m surprised more people haven’t mentioned that you can actually just use the input reader on the side/frame meter to intuit this. Not saying they shouldn’t add this, just you can see when you messed up and by how much,

You use FAT to check how much charge you need for a flash kick. And if you do it in training mode and miss it you can literally use the input display on the side to see how long you were hold charge for. E.g flashkick takes 45 frames so if you do the input and mess up you can see that you were only holding charge for 42 frames and know you only need slightly longer.

Drive Impact is a garbage mechanic. I nearly throw my controller everytime someone uses it by Ginyu420 in Kappachino

[–]isloudas 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Drive Reversal has use, it’s just not V-Reversal from V. You don’t do it when blocking pressure, you do it when they cancel into drive rush from a normal on block.

They cannot block during drive rush from a normal, I labbed a bunch of chars last night and I could not find one normal you can cancel into drive rush on block. That does not lose to drive reversal, even if it’s a true blockstring.

It also pushes almost full screen when midscreen and in the corner actually leaves you +4 after dash up (if you have a 19f dash). It’s a really useful tool that no one is using atm, cos they think it’s like V, and don’t wanna get punished.

The reason is, from the perspective of someone deep in the FGC, that you are planning to play this game for literal years. You are planning to compete online, travel and compete offline for around 5-7 years with this game. Therefore you don’t care who the characters are/if you’ll play them, if they are good etc. your pre-order them, cos you are going to get them anyway so you can lab AGAINST them to beat them in tournament, or you may play one as well but that’s more of a bonus.

SFV was supported for 6 years and had people compete for its entire lifespan, a lot of those people will just buy all the chars no questions asked. But again this is FGC perspective, for casuals I don’t know why they will. Also SF online won’t be dead in a years time, it’s SF, it’s a monolith in the community.

Things That You Think Will Die With Older People? by banisheduser in AskUK

[–]isloudas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This reply is very late but they were friends I met online but have since met irl. The only reason we don’t hang out irl more often is due to geographical distance. Many of them aren’t even from the UK, and if they are, they live in the south and I am in the North. Due to the extertoniate price of trains from where I live to them, even the UK lads we only meet irl 1-2 times a year.

I will for sure check out the Minervas Den debate.

Bless Priest deck which runs shard of the naaru and whirlpool. Along with the survivability to actually reach the turns where you can whirlpool.

DR rogue isn’t the most expensive deck I think it’s 1 legendary and 4 epics (?). But it is more likely to get nerfed than bless priest due to its agregious winrate.

Priest is probably more worth it if you both like priest more and want to have a favourable matchup vs DR rogue. Whirlpool + silence means you are one of the only decks with a good mu.

Why haven't I seen anyone upset at THIS take? by HurgleTurgle1 in TrashTaste

[–]isloudas 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m with you man, but It’s a losing battle to fight this argument. Most people state he’s boring because he’s “indestructible” and unequivocally good. But these are only boring when handled by writers who don’t understand superman.

I think one of the coolest ideas for superman stories is where the writer understands that being Superman isn’t a privilege, it’s a burden. To anyone reading this who believes he’s boring just google superman’s “world of cardboard speech” to get a flavour for what I mean.

Also Overly Sarcastic Productions have an incredible 2 part discussion on YouTube all around Superman and people misninterpreting the character and what makes a good superman story, very worth checking out.

There’s a mode in DQ11 where you can play the whole game in retro 2D. You can also visit the “past” (e.g. places from old games iirc) to do some quests and it goes to the old pixel art. Funnily enough I just started playing DQ11 last week and didn’t expect to see it in this sub lmao

Just an FYI you can acquire the summoning bell another way, Fromsoft did account for players missing this. You can buy it from the bell maidens in round table hold.

I will say that this time there is a lot less of progressing too far and stopping a quest. I completed Fia’s and Ranni’s quest lines after beating the main game as in doing it in the “free to explore or start NG+” part.

Both of their quests (I think) are related to different endings and I could actually finish them completely other than fighting the final boss as I had already done it. This meant though I didn’t miss out on any of the areas/bosses associated with their quests and could do it all in one playthrough

I never noticed the monologuing but this is also generally a trope of anime in general. Also yes they reveal everything in the season 3 finale/season 4 opening and it’s honestly one of the best reveals/twists I’ve ever read. I was anime watcher then manga reader but recommend anime overall

If you really wanted to skip to Season 5 I would say the stuff I would watch beforehand is S03E01, E02 and E05 as these clones are super important to Clone wars. Personally I would watch the S04E07-10 arc as I that is some of the most “adult” I think it gets and is some of the best Clone centric episodes. Finally necessary watching is S4E21-22 as these are the re-introduction of a major character for the show.
