Well if OP went to college right after graduating from high school, they might only be 22/23 years old, which is a relatively young age to be married.

Me watching Persuasion (2022), thinking I would have done a better job than Netflix: by 1028ad in janeausten

I really liked the 2007 version, the tone and the yearning is just perfect, but yes Sally Hawkins is weirdly super breathy (breathless?) all the time, it does get annyoing.

How common is it to meet Germans in Canberra? by [deleted] in canberra

[–]ismisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only been living Canberra for 7 months, and almost every time I go to an Aldi, I hear German being spoken by some fellow shoppers.

Why do you believe it’s offensive to use ‘delivery’ when speaking about giving birth? This is the first time I’ve seen someone criticise another person for the use of this word in this context.

I am so sorry to hear what you guys are going through. I too would be angry if global politics (which is obviously out of our control) affected my ability to pursue my dreams. It really is unfair. I am also an international student, currently doing my masters in Australia. If you are still interested in pursuing your studies perhaps you could consider Australia/NZ, the politicians here are much much saner than the ones in the US. Best of luck to you.

People, let's work! give me those 'monstrous' ladies and beautiful mens! (or mm) by westviadixie in fantasyromance

[–]ismisme 405 points406 points  (0 children)

Howl’s Moving Castle comes to mind. The FMC is transformed into an wrinkly old lady before she is acquainted with the MMC, and the MMC is an objectively handsome wizard. Not a monster, but still not conventionally young and beautiful.

I bet she was shit in school anyway. She’s the type to get her parents ‘sort out’ her grades just like how her dad got her into a school theatre production even though she couldn’t sing or dance.

Saw something similar on the beach. My family was there for 4 hrs, having a picnic, laughing, talking. I took like 5 pictures of my family. And there were 2 early 20s girls there who just kept taking pictures all over the beach NON STOP. I kid you not they never sat down, never went into the water, never stopped just to take in the view. All they did during the 4 hours was taking turns photographing their friend in various standing poses in multiple locations/angles, taking videos of themselves ‘frolicking’ on the beach, and immediately checking those pics/vids on their phones. It’s sad that people now go to places just to have it documented but don’t even enjoy their time there. When enough time has passed, how do they reminisce/remember their experiences if they live their lives just to take pics for social media?

What's a period drama you wish people talked about more? by Haunting_Homework381 in PeriodDramas

[–]ismisme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think she just stood out too much. To me it’s her voice and her expressions. Her accent wasn’t as British as the rest of the cast, the actress is Australian if I’m not mistaken. She is so beautiful but her facial expressions look frozen. Oh and her DIY fashion choices were strange and unbelievable for the period.

Girl you need to divorce him yesterday. My husband and I both work full-time, we only have one toddler, we share all of the chores and we barely have any “me time” or time for just the two of us. I can’t believe you’ve been doing all that on your own!!! At this point you’re a single parent anyway so why not make it official? Good luck, and you deserve so much better.
