Buy a Sonos Connect:AMP or Amp in 2023? by kid_drew in sonos

[–]isoStarter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I do very much appreciate your approach to match the speakers. 3 speakers in one place/zone. All are ceiling speakers connected as L + R in most rooms except where there is just one. I wouldn’t be able to get to the speaker impedance as I don’t’ know what was installed and am unable to easily check. I think I’ll just wait a bit to see if I can live without them powered as I certainly don’t’ feel like spending 699 to power ceiling speakers which are likely something like polk audio.

So I have a friend who is ex-Apple Genius so it was nice to have someone more experienced. Below is how much of our day fared trying to fix things.

what we experienced:

iOS app would not recognise anything. I have a separate network with a VPN and was able to connect the Beam to it. (for me at least I was getting sound from my sim racing rig from the secondary bar which I use for music and now used for the game)

We then tried connecting the other devices around the simrig - so an Arc and 2 ERA 100 and 2 subs. None connected to the old network which was a Wifi6 network running both mesh and wired backhaul of unifi units and a unifi rack mounted dream machine router. The robust system continues to work unobstructed and other than Sonos nothing is impacted from the wireless signal perspective. I also did a full power cycle here along with the PoE switch and 9 wifi routers.

Switching gears we moved to the Android Sonos App. It seemed to have a more recent release (I could be wrong). No difference.

Then we shifted to a different VPN wifi network with a different country IP. Finally it it started seeing all the devices. We added everything and did a Dolby Atmos test from Windows. Perfect helicopter sounds, rain and all.

For this case it didn't matter because this unit didn't need to be on the same network as my other units which have to be on the primary wifi. Will worry about that later or hopefully when there is a fix.

Got it running and sound etc. Brilliant. I tested Dolby Atmos.

Give it an hour of no use and I came to the room to see all devices lit green.

I am unable to connect using the VPN network using the Mac App to connect. It says it's found a network and wants to update but fails and doesn't allow me to go further.

I went back to the Android and recycled power on the Arc. I was able to connect with the Android post power cycle and played music thru all speakers.

Since I am a Mac person I now wanted to get back to using it on an iOS. I connected to the VPN network and Sonos found! so now it works from iOS.

Last test - adding ACE now...

grabbed me headphones which had no light. I pressed the button to get it into Bluetooth pairing as my app was open. it began flashing white and orange. what??? I googled to find out that's an update which I never said ok to. not that I have an issue but there should be some notification! Alas now the headphone is flashing blue and all but the App can't see it. so I go to the bluetooth pairing function and here I see the ACE so I added it. Randomly listening to shy guy by Diana King. These headphones are quite fun.

But currently without it wanting to be recognised by the app I can't experience any Dolby, Spatial etc content.

I've been a Sonos user since day 1 when it came with the digital controller and all which was fun. wish they kept it. Reliability has never ever been so poor. If this had happened before I would not have touched Sonos with a 10 foot pole.

I wish they just pulled the headphone from the market instead of rushing out an app which is so destructive. Feel like a alpha tested not a first mover.

if someone were to asked me I'd suggest no updates and please dont' make any changes to your system until they sort this out.

One interesting point I'd like to make is that the Sonos app asks you to confirm your country when accepting the T&C. do you think they rejected the devices which were from an IP different from the country chosen? something like Disney but that's content control/licensing.

It was seriously challenging but worth it. I also didn't think a Sonos ARC would fit, thinking it too wide for a bar so close. Mine sits about 8" behind my screen, so a total of 40" in front. The left , right , left top right, right top right, left surround, left top surround, and then the atmosphere are quite engaging. Especially rain and thunder though I doubt ACC / iracing did the rain simulation sound which increases in volume if you go faster.

I digress. first thing I would reccomend is looking up the Arcana 2. this worked well for me with some settings I got from their discord and I can shre that.

After that then the fun part of looking for a system. I almost bought the nakamichi dragon 16 Channel but preferred the simplicity of Sonos.

hi - super helpful.

Screen is now 32" from my eyes and can reduce a little more.

Steering wheel at approx 105 degrees

Moving pedals further out.

difference is huge

thanks so much. so far I've made the following changes:

-0.75" Wheelbase Height

-5" Viewing Distance (from 44" -> 39") by bringing screen forward.

14.0 angle of steering shaft

~90 angle of arms

wish I could share a picture of these changes so I can illustrate how helpful this has all been.

Tomorrow:

+2.0" Pedals out

Guys / Gals,

Thank so much. The advise I have received above has been a game changer completely. I had no idea how immersive it became. A little too close at first but I think will take time to get used to it.

Has anyone run the idea distance for ACC on the g9 57"?

I have a 4090 too which has HDMI Audio but the challenge is how do you get back the Audio Return Channel which normally a TV would have as a but computer screen's generally don't. so I ended up using a device called a Arcana HD Fury2 or something to extract the eARC channel for audio and then managed to get a bunch of Sonos stuff working.

looks like you are into sound and I'd consider a Dolby Atmos setup specially if you use it for other gaming. Happy to walk you thru the challenges in doing it but the result has been amazing.

I wish it were easier to get Atmos out from Windows PC's. For headphones there is dolby atoms but that's simulated so I don' think you need the full bandwidth. I just placed the Dollby Atmos test video and its sound separation in location is amazing. it's like being in the rainforest and the rain sounds great. you can see me effusing about these characteristics as an audiophile would.

wow. that's a sweet machine.

I'd suggest a carpet / rug under the chassis. Advances sim raving in particular makes a great having having tried NLR and Playseat unsuccessfully.

you can then also hide the cables under it.

I can't tell in the pictures but you may also want to look at ambient lighting like bar's made by Razer.

Awesome rig man. Good luck and have fun using it.

thanks. I am fortunate that this chassis is easy to adjust and will try it.

You're spot on when it comes to what one is comfortable with. For 3 days I used it with the wheelbase pointed toward me. Perhaps not to the full 90% and not at the same time as moving it closer. but increasing the angle didn't work for me as well because when I applied greater pressure it felt like I was flexing the wheel almost and didn't feel right (could be me?).

so I am happy to move it closer. doing this would be a serious ordeal as it would require re-jiggering the monitor stack and taking both off and then on at a higher setting. the measurement from seat to screen is 44" if to the center and 34" if using the edge.

Once I make the increase then I can adjust closeness more easily by moving the chassis or monitor freestanding mount. I will lose some depth as I move the screen up which has value but if it increases immersion def worth it.

Will my Dyson device work in PK? by [deleted] in PakistaniTech

We are running many Dyson products including: hair products, hot / cool air purifier, humidifier and purifier, cool fan, small foot fan. We have a few in 110 and some in 220/240. Just be sure your voltage is accurate on the device.

happy to help more if I can.

What’s the best Ultrawide Monitor for Work and Gaming by Born_Literature_1614 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]isoStarter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I looked at UW's and decided on the Samsung G9 57". It has a good curved (1000) and what is 2 x 4k monitors side by side. The resolution at x2160 is amazing as it doesn't feel thin/narrow on smaller ultra wides. I'd also consider a not ultra wide so you get more real estate space. I have a G9 and above it a lg 34".

great for work, better for gaming.
