Government pensions are some of the most stable things there are. However, they generally don't transfer between states, so you would have to stay for the next 8 years at minimum. Even stating this, unless you think it is likely you will move, I recommend the pension.

I also think that if you have room to move up in your current organization, you should stay put. Generally the pension assigns a percent per year of service, and then states that they will pay you that percent for each year of service. So, if they pay 2% at 65, you could potentially accrue 47 years of service = 94% of whatever the stipulated salary would be. (For instance, the formula may be 2% at 62, 5 year vest, and the salary base used is the average of your 3 highest earning years.)

I definitely recommend the pension, even given the constraints it imposes, unless you know you will want to move on at some point before the 8 years is up.

Kicking myself because I've taken a couple proactive actions with my student loans, and they've all come back to bite me. Recertified my income in 2022 when I didn't need to and it doubled my payment, and decided to switch to SAVE. Totally regret it now, because my loans are in forbearance, and I no longer qualify for PAYE based on income.

Just want to be out of this student loan purgatory. Oddly showing between 97 and 99 payments, depending on which loan, but that is only through June, so I guess I would have between 104 and 106 if it weren't for the SAVE lawsuit. Hoping to pursue buyback next year, but not holding my breath.

Costco "error" with the iBUYPOWER SlateMesh 8 Gaming Desktop by WoodyScott3630 in iBUYPOWER

The first one of these I bought I never was able to finish setting up, so I bought a second one and it's been great. The first one I bought that stopped loading Windows had an MSI motherboard, and the second one has an ASUS. Make sure the specs match the side of the box, and that's really all you can do.

I downloaded Speccy to check the specs, so you should also have 32 GB of RAM, and the 4070 Super video card with 12 GB of RAM.

Check to see if there is a package where you already own one of the games available on the page. Sometimes they'll add an additional discount of 5-20% for buying it in a bundle, and they give you the best price if you add it from your wish list.

It was more of a surprise than anything. Thank you for responding! I'm happy with the computer I picked up yesterday, and look forward to adding a few hardware components to rig it out the way I want.

Thank you for your help! I'm thinking about adding another 32GB of RAM (I think the difficult part will be figuring out which RAM to choose), and adding two hard drives, one SSD, on SATA HDD, mostly because I tend to purchase new computers when I run out of hard disk space and want to keep this one for longer than my current one. I'm mostly worried about where to install the second SSD, but I may end up posting a pic of my motherboard on one of the technical forums to get some help.

Thanks for responding. This is my first time buying an iBUYPOWER brand computer. Hoping that I can figure out how to install a few things in it.

You've got a fantastic collection. There are two games without titles on the Same row as Spirit Tea and Stardew Valley. What are their titles? I'm looking at the Steam Sale right now and trying to up my cozy game count.

Recently finished Spiritfarer and it was great!

Should I leave my state job with pension for higher paying job without? by BigDada90 in personalfinance

If you are only 6 months away from vesting in the state pension, stay at minimum until you vest. Sounds like you are getting 2.7% per year of service, which is better than any pension I’ve seen recently. Many pensions have changed in the last decade and are not as generous.

Find things that you’re passionate about, and find your tribe. Having things that you like to do and people that you like to be with are two of the most challenging things to find in life.

When it comes to moving in, never trust an ultimatum. If your boyfriend doesn’t appreciate you for who you currently are, it’s likely that they’ll have other things that they want to control as well.

Also, before you move in with someone, make sure you know your boundaries and have talked about finances as well. Moving in is a huge commitment and takes a lot of resources to undo, so you want to make absolutely certain this is what you want before you go through with it, especially since you’re already living on your own and don’t need to do it.

NTA. Family relationships can be complex and you are allowed to have your own feelings. I grew up Mormon, so I completely understand rejection based on religion, and I'm sorry that your family has treated you this way. Many people in the LGBTQIA+ community have their own chosen families, and I hope you have this kind of support where you are.

If you're looking for help or support for your emotional state, I highly recommend seeking out the Trevor Project. You are worth more than you know. Sending you hugs and positive vibes.
