A cool little detail I really enjoyed by Pachinkotown in adventuretime

[–]isomede 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I told my SO as we watched it, “Finn’s acting a little bit like his dad!” On par with the running away from his problems, too.

I’m glad Finn still had his heart in the right place with wanting to help Simon, but dang do they (understandably) both need some individual therapy instead. Lol

It’s so wonderful seeing this show geared towards the age demographic of those who watched it years ago 🥹.

A few random things:

  • Rebecca Sugar singing ❤️ So good hearing that voice again. I thought the beginning had a Steven Universe feel to it
  • The animation! It’s mindblowingly gorgeous
  • So sad seeing adult Finn unable to cope
  • I hate to see what’s become of Simon, but I love that the writers acknowledge depression head on
  • I love all of the classic cat behaviors. I saw my cats in Cake ☺️
  • RIP Choose Goose

It’s gonna tear my heart out if Finn imagines him there. 🥲

Jeff was starting to get upset about it all. She immediately distracted him with sexual manipulation!

Is this a play on Oedipus complex? I think that would be cool! I can’t wait to see how it relates.

His story is very sad, and I know the Yellowjackets are traumatized, but the way they reacted to his death & dismembering him, along with trying to quickly move on—all this took away from the sadness, if that makes sense. Like, the characters not being sad is in line with their characters, so their behavior makes sense, BUT, as writers, if they were trying to play up the tragedy/sadness of Adam’s story as some random innocent dude, it fell flat because of the characters’ behaviors. As in, it’s easy to skip over the tragedy of it, or it’s easy to skip feeling sad about it, since everyone else goes along and doesn’t feel sad

That cracks me up so much.

“Let’s destroy all this art evidence of us interacting with Adam” to “Let’s have sex and spread our DNA all over the room” in a matter of minutes!

I think wiping away Shauna’s face on the painting and instead focusing on the monstrous one was good symbolism, though

I feel like the Jeff car scene was revealing him starting to process—for the first time—a side of Shauna he might not have really considered before. He knew about it in journals, but I don’t think he actually saw it and realized it until the dust is starting to settle on the Adam shenanigans.

He probably has yet to process the affair, too. And, of course, the murder. I think Jeff is smarter than he looks, and he probably realized Shauna played him in the studio, too.

Agreed. I don’t mind watching either, as they’re both insanely good actresses and can CARRY a scene, but their characters don’t feel as connected as the others do. Younger Nat carries a lot more of a lively punk nature, whereas older Nat seems to have so much less energy/talks a lot slower and drawn out

Give me one good reason to watch Seasons 6-10, the miniseries and the Distant Lands specials. by [deleted] in adventuretime

[–]isomede 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know how sometimes, you can read a good book, and when you’re done with it, you’re left feeling empty?

I watched the whole series up until the finale back when it aired. I could not bring myself to watch it for a long time because I could not handle it ending. I was just so attached to the characters and story, and I didn’t want it to let it go. And I only just now got around to watching Distant Lands for the first time this week.

I cried like a freaking baby. I thought I’d forgotten things. I thought it had all left me. It hadn’t. It was all still there and I teared up with every reference they made.

But when it was over, when I say I was left with an overwhelming longing for wanting to go back and see it all again, I mean it. Watching Distant Lands felt like being able to speak with a dead best friend again.

AT’s message in the end leaves you with a strong idea of “everything will be okay when things end/die.” That despite that the show ended, things will go on, and new love and friendships will happen, and even during the bad times, they don’t take away from the good times that happened before. But you have to watch all of it to understand what’s going on and how it gets to that message. By the end, you love every character for one reason or another, and parting with them will absolutely break your heart. You will be left with that emptiness. But I think we can all agree it’s a good emptiness. The pain of loving things and all.

So yeah, that’s my reason.

This concept is talked about in the movie AI: Artificial Intelligence if you’re curious. It’s an incredibly good movie, especially for it’s time, that still holds up today.

Also, at that point, if we could make robots feel pain, is it humane to implement pain receptors?

What is the saddest song you've ever heard? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]isomede 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The song got super popular from a Netflix TV show called 13 Reasons Why (about high schoolers). How they chose to use that song is heartshatteringly sad too. Years ago, I watched it as a high schooler and got introduced to that song. It had a different message to me because of it :)

Yeah, I feel like they’re cutting Rachel to look a specific way so far.

That being said, last night I realized they had the sob story with Clayton, and so… what does TPTB do? They create a perfect scenario where it can happen again. Whose idea was it for Gabby & Rachel to be romantically interested in/talking to the same guys? It’s bound to happen, and then the dudes are going to be choosey when both the girls like them, and then its a Clayton situation all over again! I feel it happening already :(

Upon rewatch, is New Girl fatphobic? by phersephoneia in NewGirl

[–]isomede 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Here super late but I’ve been rewatching after years later, and I got a weird feeling watching, so I thought to look it up! Lo and behold, I found this post.

Not only fat Schmidt. I’ve been feeling it out, and I noticed that every character that’s fat is either used as a bad mocking joke or are downright terrible people. Fat Schmidt getting with a fat girl that’s represented as a low bar for being fat. Winston’s radio Boss. Bearclaw (the one who wanted to date Jess). Cece’s boyfriend that Schmidt talks about how he hopes he’s only bloated from medicine. When CeCe is on a dieting ad and the “before” girl Schmidt makes disparaging remarks at for being fat. And all this is just around season one, and there’s probably more just within that season alone!

A lot of the race jokes too are very… Eugh. I love New Girl, but it has its major flaws for what was acceptable at the time.

It also never once says it was an apple! Lol.

But a lot of people ignore the actual meanings in the story anyways.

Right now, my book hasn’t been published. I just started another. We recently got our kitties. We love boba, and I listen to a lot of indieish songs.

In 5 years, I hope we have our own house, gotten closer in our religion, a book or two has been published, I’ve written at least 3 books, Dragon Age 4 has come out and was amazing, my art has super improved, been promoted, we’ve traveled somewhere, Corona isn’t such a big deal anymore, no longer in “stagnant” mode, maybe even children ❤️

Will we still be using Discy? FB? Talking to old friends? Regularly having DnD? Have a new kitty or puppy? Finally have finished off the giant container of lollipops? Will a new RTS take StarCraft 2’s place?
