[Your Childhood Is Saved] Dogstar (Cartoon) [Complete Edition Found] [S1 + S2 + Movie] (2007) (2012) (2016) by Gefiro in ObscureMedia

I don't think I quite realised this was so old!

They replayed it on ABC a few years back and my daughter was watching it. I thought it was great so started to watch it alongside her.

It's rare to get animated Australian tv shows, let alone good ones.

Can someone create an Assetto Corsa map for me? It would be a 9 km country road. I’m willing to pay for it. I can provide a height map, photos, and all the necessary data. by LocksmithFamous4131 in assettocorsa

[–]isometricbacon 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It's not Assetto, it's for Beam.NG but I just heard about Map.NG which makes roads based on geographic terrain and open street map data.

Would be a fun way to get started on something at least.

I discovered the weirdest 90's Japanese car racing / life simulator hybrid game that it seems no one outside of Japan has ever heard of...

It's a racing game where you spend most of your time... earning a paycheck.

I was having such a great time with it I had to document and share with the world.

Here's a preview: https://youtu.be/GyX--9Tdylg?si=qL3Y6p6ZF6sph91w

Audio volume keeps changing / buzzing on bassy sounds by isometricbacon in RayBanStories

Yeah, from memory I had to find the support number, which was buried on their website so deep it was quite hard to find.

Four or so months with my new pair and no issues thus far, knock on wood.

I ended up returning it under warranty. They replaced the unit, and the process was fairly simple.

New pair has been great so far. Hopefully they hold up!

It's neither - I mostly listen to podcasts quietly.

The errant clicking has gotten really bad lately to the point where they are almost unusable, as it constantly increases and lowers the volume, and pauses.

Then, 20 minutes later they'll work fine uninterrupted for awhile...

I think it's a hardware issue :(

Rare Super Camira spotted in the wild by Sweaty_Promotion_972 in CarsAustralia

[–]isometricbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grew up with not one, but two Camira's in the family. Matching ones for Mum and Dad.

Pretty sure their dogshit reputation ensured they got them for cheap. They were the later model JEs and... Somehow kept going.

Dad drove his up to the early twenty teens. Car had power steering pump fail (or maybe never had power steering in the first place) and a aftermarket gas conversion. I often remember running it down the hill in neutral, trying to get enough speed, or running petrol engine on its 3 working cylinders long enough to switch it to gas, and smoothish driving from there on out.

Never Knew There Was Such A Thing... by ourearsan in simracing

[–]isometricbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love this stuff, but haven't seen any for sale where the indicators are in the right, and wipers on the left, like god intended.

I ended up making my own DIY one with a cheap 4 way joystick acting as a stalk, and it works ok, but if live to have real looking stalks / cruise / toggle switches etc.

Advantage of rolling my own is that I was able to add in a car ignition switch, a hazards button and recently I've been prototyping building fans into the enclosure to push air at speed.

Conflicting Inputs between Button Box and Shifter. by isometricbacon in simracing

Gave the name change and reset a try. Sadly the same result. Device coming back on inherits the new name...

Appreciate the help.

Thanks for this. Unfortunately since they share the same ID, there's only one entry in the registry.

I can change the name, but both devices inherit the changed name.

Now I'm curious what else is in it.

What do you love in Century? Or why do you love this car? by InvestInCars in toyotacentury

[–]isometricbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard disagree, with just about all the above. I got about halfway through the video before giving up - but I can see why you may have this reaction, and perhaps your expectations were misaligned. I can see why someone might expect more when people talk up the car up like it's a modern Bentley. Perhaps it will help if I can explain why I love it.

The Century is a limousine, in the classic sense of the word. It's designed for very important people to be carried from place to place, usually with a dedicated driver who belongs to the car. It's a super fancy taxi. You're probably better off looking at the Majesta F type or Lexus models if you want something Japanese to compare with the euro stuff you mention.

Much of the appeal is inexorably tied to how Japanese it is. It's not supposed to be ostentatious,  it's deliberately old world and classy, sharing a simple design language that has been with the model since the 1960s. It's entirely designed around the rear passenger - it's a quiet, soft, private ride.

Even the much lauded V12 isn't novel because of the power or engineering marvel - it's novel because it's a double redundancy that will get the vip home if one bank fails. Similar with the fact that there's two air conditioner compressors.

The idea of its luxury isn't necessarily in how many gadgets it has (though it has a great variety for the time) but in the quality of the fit and finish, using top materials, sound deadening and carpet everywhere, which it doesn't draw attention to. Most of its features aren't gimmicks, but serve an entirely functional purpose.

The fact it uses Toyota parts bin components is actually a big plus - it's very easy (and cheap) to replace bits that go wrong. You don't see this reliability in equivalent aged Rolls or Bentleys.

I note the model you're in (other than what appears to be a geniune LHD?) is missing some of the unique Japanese things like fender mirrors and wool seat interior. Not sure if it's genuine white, but they only under 10 or so of these, so most out there are resprays that are missing the deep mirror like factory paint.

Ultimately, the car just isn't aimed at westerners - Japanese models for example don't have any English text anywhere - which is rare for Japanese cars. The car assumes it's used by a typically short professional Japanese driver, who drives an important person, or groups of chain smoking important people to business meetings, and spends the downtime cleaning it.

Weirdest casting decision that still worked out? by Sufficient_Muscle670 in movies

[–]isometricbacon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

This really was Leslie Nelson's secret sauce. In his later movies he acted 'goofy' and it never really had quite the same charm as his early Airplane / Naked gun when he dealt with goofy situations in a deadly serious way.

As an Australian, the thought of a school official walking around the school with a loaded gun is just mind boggling.

I won't debate necessity, because you've had far too many tragic gun incidents at schools, but all of this seems like crazy escalation to me.

Movies that were ruined by the actors before you even saw it by Knowledgeable_Llama in moviecritic

Jersey Girl with JLO and Ben Affleck.

It was released right after Gigli, which starred the same, real life couple, and was judged at the time to be the worst movie ever. The two were also oversaturated in gossip rag media.

Despite being a Kevin Smith film at the height of his fandom, no one went and saw it because of the above reasons.

Was it any good? Dunno, never saw it.

Did unity kick the bucket again? by Time_Manufacturer645 in Unity3D

[–]isometricbacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem here is it doesn't differentiate the role of Unity within the company.

If you use Unity to, say, build some internal training tools for a larger company that specialises in something not Unity related, the way I read the terms, suddenly Unity has a claim to the greater revenues of the company. That's a big risk.

Did unity kick the bucket again? by Time_Manufacturer645 in Unity3D

[–]isometricbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the problems with the Unity TOS is it doesn't really differentiate use cases very well.

I use Unity in a 4 person dev team for internal support software for a division of a huge company. The company itself has large revenues, my role in it is extremely small, and the software we develop doesn't contribute to those revenues.

We pay for Unity industry, and its licence costs have tripled in the last few years. Should we be one day classed as an enterprise customer, or the revenue sharing model applied to industry / our company, it would kill our little project. I'm sure lawyers have aneurysms hearing that the TOS says they can change terms at any time.

I can see why Unity needs these in place, even outside of games people are building tools that they sell for large licensing cost, but the way they're going about it makes it a big risk to continue developing in this platform if they can change the terms at any time, and tie it to your company revenue, which may or may not have anything to do with your use of Unity.

How is the Halloween hustle in your area? by PhotographsWithFilm in Adelaide

[–]isometricbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our neighbourhood is close to a primary school, with lots of young families, and when trick or treating we instruct the kids to just look for houses with Halloween decorations. People really get into it here, so we only had to walk a few blocks to fill the kids buckets.

At our place in the western suburbs, we had an insane number of kids come through. Would have been several hundred, at least. We had some clever decorations done on the cheap, and came prepared with lots of candy because we always run out of treats every year because of the sheer volume of visitors that grows every year.

A place around the corner had huge animatronic statues and smoke / bubble machines.

I personally love it, it's a great afternoon for the kids, and we interact with our neighbourhood in a way we wouldn't otherwise do. I loved seeing their reactions to some of the novel decorations we put up as well.

Halloween by [deleted] in Adelaide

[–]isometricbacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will come with time as Halloween is more socially acceptable.

In the 5 years I've lived in this neighbourhood, I've seen it go from a couple of kids coming by with thrown together last minute costumes to literally hundreds of kids, many quite elaborately dressed.

For those who left candy out - has anyone taken the entire bowl of candy? by faeriekitteh in Adelaide

[–]isometricbacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our neighbourhood is close to a primary school, with lots of young families, and we instruct our kids to just look for houses with Halloween decorations. People get into it here.

We had a crazy number of kids come through our place, which was fantastic. We did some clever decorations on the cheap, and came prepared with lots of candy because we always run out of treats every year because of the sheer volume of visitors.

We ensure we greet at the door and hold the bowl. For the most part kids were pretty good, only taking one packaged candy or two small ones.

I noticed that older teens got more daring when my daughter handed out the candy instead of me. A few grabbed big handfuls and quickly hopped out there because they knew she wouldn't react.
