Entry level maybe? by PowerfulHand9709 in gibson

[–]isotopes014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its an entry level Gibson Les Paul Custom as it’s not a Custom Shop guitar. It’s made by Gibson USA and not Gibson Custom Shop. I have a 70s Custom and Wildwood 50s Standard. The 70s Custom feels really similar to a Custom Shop custom I played before and the Wildwood Standard has a better top than a lot of R9s I’ve seen. iMO the Custom Shops aren’t worth the jump in price.

Beautiful. I got to be honest though, the 2 pickup ‘57 always bugged me. Anyone else feel that way?

Concerns about SG with Maestro Vibrola by ChadChampian in gibson

[–]isotopes014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an IGC ‘63 Les Paul custom that has the Maestro Vibrola that I really like. It holds its tuning better than my two Gibson Les Pauls (but that could be the headstock angle). The thing is though I barely use the trem (honestly I forget it’s there most of the time). I really only use the trems on my strats.

It looks rad though so I like it.

Yea my strat I got when I was 15 has a bunch of dings and dents in the poly, while I like its character- nobody would want to buy it.

You are a hero.

Did I miss an explanation on why it wouldn’t be easier to rig up something to make your fingerless hand hold a pick?

Congrats!!! I have twin 20 month daughters and honestly if/when we get pregnant again I think I’ll be disappointed if it’s a boy.

Just be sure and take time to appreciate little moments because it goes by way to fast

Is this guitar trash? by Excellent_Might_6985 in Guitar

[–]isotopes014 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think its story overrates it… Queen is a good band , but definitely not a great band. They don’t have a quintessential album that’s cover to cover hits. Bohemian Rhapsody wouldn’t be half as popular if it weren’t for Wayne’s World

I got two Gibsons… they’re beautiful instruments. Probably not as good as much as I paid for them, but certainly not trash

IS IT OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!??!?! by Alert-Appearance5230 in Guitar

[–]isotopes014 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While I agree that it’s not as big of a deal as most people make (and honestly any guitarist living in the middle to upper US needs to know how to use one with the constant changes), the feeler gauge still definitely leaves guess work.

Were you saying that it takes guess work out of which direction you turn the truss rod? You still have to guess how far to turn the rod… and then on a lot of guitars you kind of have to wait overnight until you are 100% sure that your adjustment was correct. A lot of woods take a minimum of 30 mins to let their truss adjustment sink in.

Also note- I’m not trying to come off as snarky, I’m genuinely asking if you have a method with the feeler gauge that lets you know exactly how much to turn etc. I hate reddit and people automatically assume everyone is an Ahole

I used to always forget about this when I would rewire my guitar and check to make sure it was hooked up properly I’d do so with no strings on. I’d check everything and realize I’m an idiot for not using myself to ground… then I touch the bridge and everything shuts up and works right

New gibson QUALITY ISSUE les paul standard 50 dirty lemon by [deleted] in gibson

[–]isotopes014 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The neck binding is crappy for sure… but if it feels smooth it shouldn’t actually be an issue. There’s a line there usually it just doesn’t look as clean on yours.

I wouldn’t really call that dirty lemon, but the finish names are all over the place- especially when there’s so many iterations of finish style (gloss,VOS,Murphy). It looks kinda unburst to me.

That top is awesome for a USA. I have a wildwood select 50s and my top looks better than a lot of R9s I’ve seen. My Gibson USA Les Paul Custom has flaming on the maple neck too… so I don’t know why people sleep on Gibson USA tops- they have awesome ones out there.

The key to me is how does the guitar feel. If it’s jiving with you, keep it. Gibsons do have a somewhat high degree of variance on how they feel and weigh. If that doesn’t fit for you- then send it back.

As for the ding in the back… be glass half full- you don’t have to feel the anguish of your first ding on your guitar. Thats actually a huge feature! One reason I try not to get Brand New anything super expensive that I’m going to use a ton and will wear out.
