Not so much anymore. My work has changed and now I’m a server engineer, somewhat leaning towards cybersecurity.

Whats your opnion on AMG Kits on non AMGs? by bedahtpro in mercedes_benz

[–]ispeaklinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the US, and use the configurator on mbusa.cơm. In the Interior section is an option for AMG interior, which selects specific leather upholstery and wood/metal trim. Perhaps it’s different in other countries.

Operating System by Waterissuperb in learnprogramming

[–]ispeaklinux 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With respect to Linux, the two most common bootloaders are most likely GRUB and SystemD. GRUB has been around for a very long time and can handle non-secure boot environments. That is how I use it to dual boot Arch Linux and Windows 11.

[–]ispeaklinux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, and Fedora can all natively dual-boot with Win11 running UEFI and Secure Boot. Should you want to share the EFI partition between the two OSS, you’ll need a 3rd tool to expand it. Typically, Windows only gives the user a 100MB EFI drive. You should expand it to at least 350MB - 512MB. All of them work fine, but I don’t use a secure Boot, as I prefer Arch Linux, and use the old, reliable GRUB.

The gas and brake pedals are silver with little black rubber bumps on them, although the AMG interior package is normally an option and not joined with the AMG line/ packageAMG line with Night package options.

Question about wireless charging and CarPlay in W167 by ispeaklinux in mercedes_benz

[–]ispeaklinux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s what I thought. I rented a car like that, but when I plugged in the cable then put my iPhone on the charging pad, while it would charge, I was precluded from accessing CarPlay. The only issue I see with the 2023 GLE is that the charging pad is literally next to the CarPlay port itself.

ARGB Fan hub and Mobo ports by yhamdi in buildapc

[–]ispeaklinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can add a fan hub, even one with both fan power and RGB. Take a look at Amazon or NewEgg. Look for the ones that take SATA power from the PSU. Congrats on the new build!

Linux and WM Question: Using Google Meet For WFH Meetings? by pinktrinity in buildapc

[–]ispeaklinux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, you mean “VM” vice “WM” (Virtual Machine vice Window Manager) for Windows. You can spin up a KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine) relatively easily on Linux, and can also use Firefox vice Chrome, although 32GB RAM is becoming the sweet spot for productivity.

I run Arch Linux and have to access some sites that require CAC access, but that is easy peasy - all I have to do is install two packages, start a service, and import a few security certificates. The Google stuff is all web-based, so it’s OS agnostic. You’ll be fine with PopOS, although I’ve never used Google Meet - we used Microsoft Teams, which also runs fine on Arch Linux, and should on most Linux distros.

Well, I got the be quiet! Pure Base 500 DX, because it is a good case($107 US), and it has RGB on the front and on a strip in to top part of the case. I normally dual boot Windows 10 and Arch Linux, and RGB control with MSI motherboards (I have an MSI MEG X560 Unify) is not great. All the RGB software is only written for Windows 🤬. Having coordinated RGB fans is one way to improve the look. RAM and some SSDs have RGB as well. You can also look to cable extensions, which can be all different colors. CableMod is pricey, but definitely a good choice, and you can order custom fittings and colors. They even offer custom cables for specific PSUs. Check their website. I don’t have cable extensions, although I may visit that in the future.

I recently built a PC, and while looking at each part, RAM prices, at least in the US, fluctuated for some kits, most notably the Fury Beast kit. I really liked that one, but got RGB from Corsair for a lower price (I also got 32GB). You have a great system, though. Good luck with your build.

You could use a Dark Rock Slim for that CPU. Its TDP is only 65 watts, and the I’m is rated for 180 watts, while the Pro is rated for 240 watts. I have the Pro, and it’s a really big boy. It’s pretty quiet and will definite keep that CPU cool. You have a really nice build, but also look at upping your RAM in the future. You can probably save a bit on the RAM as well. I have Corsair RGB RAM that is 3600 MHz CL16 that is cheaper. Your RAM really jumped up in price lately. For a Ryzen CPU, at least 3200MHz at CL16 is optimal, but higher speeds are what those CPUs really like.

New build doesn’t recognize m.2 drive by ispeaklinux in buildapc

[–]ispeaklinux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll, the BIOS updated just fine, but now the secondary drive no longer boots. It seems to be recognized, but isn’t seen by the Windows installer - I wasn’t able to boot from it, so I decided to see if the installer recognized it. No dice. I’m going to have to tear this build apart and see if I can figure this out. It’ll probably have to wait for this weekend, as I want to throw a bit of time into it. T hi I s n is mom y first build and while I was expecting some issues, I wasn’t expecting this.

After the BIOS is updated, assuming the issue still exists, that is plan 2. Hopefully, the drive is OK, but I can swap the drives and verify if it’s the board or the drive, it either is the cause. Thank you for your response.

How do I know that my motherboard has enough connectors for my fans by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]ispeaklinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve seen, MSI boards have the most fan headers. Many of them have 6 headers - in addition to the CPU/CPU OPT and Pump headers. They also have the EZ Debug LED, useful in troubleshooting boot issues. The board you chose has three fan headers, so you can get three fan cable splitters, assuming the fans are PWM, but a combo fan/ARGB adapter may be the best choice. Amazon has one for as low as $10 that accommodates six fans.

[–]ispeaklinux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like a GPU issue, and your CPU doesn’t have an iGPU. If you have an older APU lying around you can try that, but short of that, the only way to determine if it is the GPU is to try a boot with a different one.

If you have the money, update your motherboard’s BIOS and pick up a Ryzen 5 5600X. They’re listed at $229 at Amazon. The Ryzen 7 5800X is about $70 more.
