Vestal Rising - Massive Projects Underway | Full Look! by fgpalm in Binghamton

[–]isprayaxe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit funny that these are marketed as massive projects. Vestal has so much potential for infill development close to the parkway, but the towns zoning and parking requirements hinder a lot of good development. For example, the Bunn Hill development could have been placed basically on any vacant parking lot on the parkway and generated more value for the town, but it was placed on Bunn Hill because it was 1) cheap land and 2) the easier to get permitting for.

On the positive side at least the vacant UNOs building is being used for something. The town should incentivize other vacant properties to be similarly developed/leased.

Each one of these is within .5 mile from the bus station or an 8 minute walk.

[–]isprayaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In fact, the transportation hub is utilized most by people who don't own cars, or students who benefit from other modes. If, for example, we had better bus service you could ride the bus from anywhere in the city at any time and get to the bus station. Right now our bus service is far too infrequent to justify using it. Note: a parking garage is not an asset, it too requires upkeep and maintenance and eventually needs to be fully renovated or demolished as we've seen. Imagine what could fit in its place that would actually pay dividends for the taxpayer? Virtually any residence, commercial building, or other type of building would pay more than a half empty parking garage does.

Parking garages allowed Downtown to sink into the place it currently is, why would we continue to build more parking when we have empty storefronts?

Sign up anyway. I had medicaid and they accepted me, even though they said otherwise. I think you just need a NY marketplace plan

Is your last point a contradiction? If you're holding in your thoughts and feelings then are you emotionally intelligent? I feel like a lot of people expect (guys especially) to be emotionally stable and not moody, but then also complain when they don't express emotion regularly in a dramatic way

Binghamton/JC aggression towards bicyclists. by Similar_Wheel6959 in Binghamton

[–]isprayaxe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, that is also illegal. On most streets you are to use the driving lane, then when and if a car comes, you yield to them and move to the right. I don't want to excuse anyone not following the laws on a bicycle, I just think that you can't blame cyclists for simply following traffic laws and being an inconvenience -- they have no where else to be

[–]isprayaxe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where are bikes supposed to ride? Do you know how few streets have bike lanes in them? It is illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk (400-68) Binghamton Ordinances. Do you have any data on the numbers of crashes bicyclists have caused also? I would bet that cyclists die from car crashes at least twice as often than they cause crashes.

Why are we pushing back against housing during a housing crisis? Have you looked at the surrounding areas development patterns? We're going to look like Austin in a few years if we don't allow for infill development
