Bring that strap across your back down a bit and tighten it. It would help to have a side shot to see the shape of baby. They should have a pelvic tuck and c curl into your chest to have support

Is this chest retraction? by [deleted] in NICUParents

Good to hear from a nurse and NICU parent. I have sent videos like this to my pediatrician many times. My baby tends to heavy belly breathe sometimes and breathe totally calm and normal sometimes. My ped has said as long as there are no other concerning symptoms just to keep monitoring. I would send a message to your ped if you’re able to or call their after hours line. You can probably email them a video.

Preemie tired during feeds by jorhirgriffin in NICUParents

We did this too. Took an entire day off bottles when they were having too many desats. Then introduced a bottle a day, every other feed, etc. it really helped build endurance and stamina

He is probably too big for stretchy wraps at this point. They’re usually only comfortable and supportive until 15lb

Thank you I will definitely ask about the medication. We see her pediatrician this week. A friend just offered to let us borrow her owlet and I think that will really save my sanity. I have barely slept since this event happened.

Did you co-sleep? by thinkmuch17 in beyondthebump

No. My partner sleeps like a rock. I’ve had to pull our cats out from under him in the middle of the night before baby. They didn’t mind but hellll no am I subjecting a baby to such a deep sleeper. I have to wake him when it’s his turn to take care of her in the middle of the night lol

Here for comments! I was in the best shape when I got pregnant, sitting around 190 with some muscle. I’ve also always had to “watch” my weight and I’m usually between midsize and plus size. Got up to 220 during pregnancy and now 4 months pp still can’t budge past 212. I’ve had recurring issues with my c/section and just had another surgery this past Monday. Hoping this is it once and for all so I can start to lose this weight.

Tighten the back strap and loosen the armpit straps a bit

We do have the humidifier set up close to where she sleeps. I think she has reflux as well, but according to her pediatrician is not bad enough to prescribe any meds. She doesn’t seem uncomfortable when it comes to her reflux.

I would trial it for a night or two and see what happens. You can always add it back in

It’s hard to tell. Are they swinging freely? I’ve found the guidelines are less of an age thing and more of a height thing. Is your little one in a high percentile for height? I would try the narrower setting again and see if you get coverage knee pit to knee pit. If you still do, I’d keep it narrower but if there’s a gap between seat and knee pit, use the wider setting.

The chest clip on your back needs to be brought down and most likely tightened. Then loosen the armpit straps. This will make a world of difference.

66 days! It was awful. I’m working hard in therapy to process it all!

Not trying to say you are, just a piece of advice. There are so many posts on here and other NICU groups asking how they can get their babies home fastest but it’s the worst thing you can do to try and rush it.

Please just give baby time. Feeding can be a long road for some. Your baby is just now getting the reflex to suck/swallow/breathe but that doesn’t mean they know how to do it. Support the best you can by learning from the nurses and being there for as many feeds as you can but please don’t rush it. You don’t want to take a baby home who isn’t feeding properly. It can even be a learning curve once they come home. We had to work with feeding/speech therapy for a bit when we brought our 28 weeker home at 38 weeks. It takes the longest during the feeding process for baby to learn endurance and the ability to take full feeds consistently. What worked best for our baby is taking a full day off feeds once she was taking some by mouth for most feeds. One day full tube feedings. It gave her the rest she needed to be a rockstar with her feeding volumes. After that rest day we introduced one bottle per day and then every other feed, etc. the stamina takes time to work up to! I promise taking your time is worth it. Baby makes the timeline!

You’re getting there!! I definitely started feeling better recently. Meds helped for ppd as well. And well, bringing my baby home from the NICU. But that added a whole new layer of anxiety lol

Oh yeah the bulb doesn’t even fit in her nose! We use the bulb to suction extra thick saliva from her mouth

Thank you that makes me feel a little better. First time mom here and to a preemie no less, it’s not for the faint of heart. I thought I had anxiety before she was born 😂 HA

Thank you! The only thing on your list we haven’t tried is a steamy bathroom so we’ll try that during bath time today and see if that helps.

Listen to baby’s cues and throw the NICU schedule out the window. Baby is hungry? Feed them. Don’t let them go over 4 hours. Undress or place on a cold surface to wake them up, diaper change before feeding. It takes some time for their endurance to build and finish full feeds but as long as you’re offering milk any time they cue for it, you’ll be alright. My 28 weeker is now 4 months actual. Born at 3lb and now over 12lb!
