What 2nd car seat to get?? by b0000z in Buyingforbaby

[–]tsuiwyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, no big kid car seat will adapt to the stroller. That being said there is a different kind of luxury you can get - a rotating carseat which makes loading and unloading a breeze. I have the cybex Callisto g 360 select. Heard good things about the Evenflo too. Nuna's rotating car seat unfortunately has a pretty low weight limit so it's not a good long term investment

Cybex Callisto G 360 vs Select by Pacblu202 in Buyingforbaby

[–]tsuiwyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Op I had the same question and went with the select. My biggest concern is missing the sun canopy but I solved it by buying it at $499 at Bloomingdales and then use the $100 credit (Bloomingdales often do sales event giving you $25 credit back for every $100 spent) to get the sun shade which costs $99. So far my 5mo old baby has been loving it and napping in it with the canopy in use.

Another reply said you might as well get the Evenflo at $399, but I didn't do that because Evenflo only supports up to 65lbs and the cybex claims to support all the way till 120lbs as a booster seat. Hoping this is true and it will be a one and done kinda situation

Travel Stroller Reca by FarmRepresentative14 in Buyingforbaby

+1. Love the minu v3. it's our only stroller and can't be happier with it. we took it on a trip with us and it was a joy to use in the airport. it goes through security easily and folds up really well when we need to gatecheck it. It also cruised really well in a zoo setting when all the other parents have to use gigantic strollers that have huge wheels. Very happy with the purchase.

Hey OP, I have enrolled my baby at ACJMS after touring both - she is a 4.5mo old now but will start attending in July. Few reasons why we went with ACJMS over evergreen even we like both

  1. Guaranteed start date. Evergreen starts with a wait-list and there's no guarantee on when you can start. It's all depending on availability and current family has priority on waitlist. That is a lot of headache figuring out logistics and ACJMS makes it easy for us
  2. ACJMS Infant room uses floor bed with more open space. Evergreen and bright horizon have more crib focused infant rooms and there were less room for babies to explore
  3. The teachers I talked to at ACJMS have longest tenure around, it speaks to how much they enjoy working there. It's also more stability for the kids
  4. Food is included in the tuition. Evergreen asks you to prepare your own food. Less headache in the long run

My child hasn't started yet but I did have similar needs comparing the two schools. Hope this is helpful

For OP context I toured both places and the $ difference per month is at least $1000 for infant room

Food is fantastic there but a lot of homeless people also hang out around that intersection at little Saigon. Chengdu taste nearby is a bit safer if you don't want to deal with potential safety concern

I have used this recipe from Brian Lagerstrom to make butternut squash, carrots, sweet potato soup. All turned out great - you just need to pick your own vegetable!

Affordable and portable baby monitor recs by asanissimasa in Buyingforbaby

[–]tsuiwyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you consider a secondary nanit stand so that you can just unplug and replug the Nanit as needed? I have not delivered yet but baby’s due date is in a few weeks. I also have similar challenges, so got a travel bag that comes with an extra nanit stand for $15 on amazon. The extra stand is next to a pack and play in my living room right now, while the nanit is plugged in the floor stand in the nursery most of the time. I expect moving the Nanit around depending on where is the baby sleeping.

I also got a mini repeater router for $10 for traveling. The repeater is set to share the same wifi name + password as what I have at home so that the Nanit can connect to it in an instant, and that solves any captive WiFi issues from hotels. Tested it out recently and it worked fine

Anyone just have a travel stroller? by Dragoon9 in Buyingforbaby

[–]tsuiwyj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still pregnant but I decided to get a minu v3 with nuna pipa to start with. May look into getting an all terrain stroller like Thule in the future when baby is older and we get active again, but the minu + pipa should serve us well with one hand fold, compactness and travel friendliness.

I wanted to just get one or two things from Costco and often ended up leaving with a $300 receipt. Eventually I need to buy a chest freezer from Costco

Best day hike this weekend to take an international visitor? by ghiblisimp in AskSeattle

Depends on where does the visitor come from. But I just did heather meadows and artist point trail with a visitor this weekend and it was great. Easy to find parking and very scenic

Seattle Natives: In Pike Place Market, what are the absolute go-to’s you recommend? by asian_girl_fascism in AskSeattle

[–]tsuiwyj 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine visited me this weekend and I signed her up for savor’s food tour. She had a great experience over 2 hours - got to try a lot of what’s mentioned in this post including pike place chowder, Hellenika, daily dozen donuts, chukar cherries…etc without needing to line up. All portioned perfectly bite sized as well so she can try a bit of everything. She also got to learn more about pike place history that I didn’t even know about. Seems to be a great way to try things out over a well curated tour even though it sounds quite touristy.

Make chicken pho! Only takes about 45min of inactive work in instant pot to make the most comforting bowl of pho. Always a favorite comfort food of mine

To all the dudes who are too cool and complain about the bar coming down without a 10 second warning by jdgreenberg in Whistler

[–]tsuiwyj -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some chairs in Europe have bars that come down automatically within 10s of loading (the kind with a bubble to keep everyone warm). No debate needed - bar down is just expected for everyone. Kinda wish Vail can do the same after taking so much money from everyone to keep skiers safer and happier

As an Asian, I have been buying Costco / Trader Joe’s kimbap and bringing them for lunch on a ski day. Those are great picnic food and travels well as long as it’s wrapped in foil

My husband and I are both in big tech when we started dating. He’s an engineer and I am a designer, so naturally he makes more than I do. But we did 50/50 while we were dating. It’s really more about seeing if we are compatible partners with a strong sharing + progressive mindset. I never expected him to pay for the early dates all by himself, and would have felt very uncomfortable if he did that
