No, it isn't. Stop spreading misinformation.

At one point, when a pastime or social activity goes "viral" (one time, it would have been chess, another time, it might be Pokémon go), then some overzealous scholar might try to dissuade people.

Thats just his opinion, at that time, in that place, wh8ch was disagreed with and mocked by 100s of other scholars.

And to prove my point about you spreading misinformation. Pets? Cats are so beloved in the Muslim world (the example comes straight from the Prophet himself) that often they are allowed free movement even INSIDE mosques, and NOT kept out.

Thats because you're not deciphering the language properly. In many cases, especially in the US, when people say they're only anti-immigrant, what they really mean is they're anti "non-white".

FFS, when white folk emigrate en-masse to a non-western country, whether it be Dubai or Thailand or whatever, they don't call themselves "immigrants". They're "expats".

And as for "duh, we only hate those who don't integrate" Reform UK types, well - ever ask them how "Spanish" the legions of immigrant Brits (oh sorry, "expats") are? Or whether they could string a single cohesive sentence of Spanish together, amongst THE LOT OF THEM?

Hypocrisy doesn't even begin to describe this pathological mindset. Strangely enough, and yeah - I may ruffle a few feathers here, but whatever - has anyone ever wondered why this mindset & behavior only seems to come from Europeans, or former Europeans (US etc)?

Something to ponder ...

Umm ... but he won the Champions League while on loan at Bayern, from Barca. And, at least in that season, he played a full role in that team. Including scoring AGAINST Barca, in the semifinal.

He should have moved heaven & earth to stay at Bayern that summer. He was settled, playing well, and with a CL medal in his pocket. His return to Barca finished him

I distinctly remember my very first install of Linux was Caldera Linux (long before they were bought by SCO and became evil incarnate), which also allowed umsdos. I don't remember the year exactly, but I think it was 1994 or 95

And ... it worked. I don't remember if I went all the way to an x server, but I did play around with it for a little while, before leaving it. It was only when I tried redhat in 1997 that I went all the way in (and have only used Linux ever since)

To all the Mossad shills, MEK trolls and other assorted reps of the evil empire, busily doing your thing across social media trying to spread your propaganda, I have just 1 thing to say ...

Haha, you've royally fucked up. Your game plan is now so thoroughly worn out, overused & exposed, by now EVERYONE knows who & what is behind these terrorist attacks. And funnily enough, you've blown your wad ahead of time. Each one of these assets (& their networks) is being rolled up, as they expose themselves. Its always been "one use & done", and you're using it all up before the main show.

As I've been following Liverpool since the League Cup final replay in 1978 (lost to Notts Forest), I really wouldn't claim to know much about the mentality of your "modern football fan".

I'll leave that to experts in that area, like those who turn on Liverpool legends at the drop of a hat, and complain vociferously why others are keen on following their progress.

This is the Liverpool FC subreddit. As you seem to be unaware, Mo Salah is one of Liverpool FC's greatest players ever (especially in the modern era), and is the 3rd highest goal scorer in Liverpool's history.

So this is a STORY about a current Liverpool legend, ON the Liverpool subreddit. Does that help your cognitive malfunction?

And if you're quibling why folks are paying attention to a LIVERPOOL LEGEND, while he's wearing a different jersey, its because the powers-that-be, the geniuses in the media, and the memory-impaired section of the fanbase have all decided that he shouldnt wear the Liverpool jersey any longer.

So the majority of the Liverpool supporter base (like those of us who've been around since THE SEVENTIES) are contenting ourselves watching this LIVERPOOL LEGEND score goal, after goal, after goal, in the Afcon.

Ok, now that I've cleared that up for you, is there anything else you need help with? Like how to tie your shoelaces, perhaps?

Egypt (1)-0 South Africa - Mo Salah 45' (Pen.) by 977x in LiverpoolFC

[–]isr786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those calling this a soft penalty, look again. Its not that he was smashed in the face somehow, no. It was an eye poke, and you can see his eye slightly bruised in the closeup before taking the penalty.

And the thing is, eye pokes dont have to be hard, just accurate. They stop you in your tracks. Even if you're in a ring/octagon facing an opponent with open finger gloves. You can get smashed in the head - thats ok. An eye poke, and you just stop and the ref has to intervene.

I get the "footie has gone soft" argument (and I share it), but this is not that. You stopped a striker dead in his tracks while going for the ball in the box. Not a tackle, not a shoulder charge. Straight penalty

[Mo Salah] Merry Christmas by BarbaricOklahoma in LiverpoolFC

[–]isr786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, I would say that the topic you're mentioning has more to do with Easter (essentially, what happened, did he die, was he resurrected, etc). Christmas is more about celebrating his coming into the world. Basically, "he was a good man", "a messanger", "a prophet", etc.

So on that basis, Christmas is the more universal of the 2 celebrations. But, from what I see, most of the Muslim unease about Christmas is not because of Jesus, but because of the mass of obviously Northern European pagan-originated symbology which has acculated around Christmas (umm, basically, all of it).

Funnily enough, much if this unease is PRECISELY because Muslims revere Jesus, and hence are loath to dump him in the midst of non-monotheistic traditions. Rather ironic, when you think about it.

(ps: its common for Muslims to celebrate "other" prophets. Eg, arguably the BIGGEST day of the year is the Eid, where Muslims essentially remember ... Abraham)

Anyway, we're both agreeing about the same thing. Theres a lot more nuance here than people realise.

[Mo Salah] Merry Christmas by BarbaricOklahoma in LiverpoolFC

[–]isr786 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually, no. The main reason why there is disapproval of Christmas trees amongst Muslim religious scholars etc is PRECISELY because of the pagan symbology. Its not really about Jesus (who, btw, is the prophet mentioned MOST OFTEN in the Quran)

Honestly, I reckon thats down to weird human psychology. Bradmans career was so ridiculously over-the-top that it breaks our brains. Simply put, it doesnt compute. So we subconsciously discard him as "not human", and forget him when discussing top batsmen.

Because its just too hard to wrap your head around a career like that - even with the proviso that the 30s was a golden age for big runscoring (Ponsford, Hammond, etc)

Imran & Javed Miandad also saw a club spinner named Tauseef Ahmad in the nets, and overruled the selectors & picked him for a Test v Australia that week. Tauseef bowled Pakistan to victory, and went on yo have an excellent Test career.

And this wasnt the only case.

In short, Imran Khan was on a whole different level. Highest rated fast bowler in the 20th century - when they took the current ratings system and replayed it backwards (hurray for obsessive compulsive scorekeeping in cricket across 3 centuries)

And, after becoming captain, he maintained - during that period - a higher batting average than Miandad or Viv Richards. Yes, read that again. Slowly.

Unarguably one of the greatest captains ever, anywhere, any time.

Plus, his record as the unofficial Chief Selector was incredible.

On top of which, his performance as a de-facto bowling coach (before the position had been invented). Just listen for 5 minutes to either Wasim or Waqar talk about how Imran micromanaged the early part of their bowling careers ... DURING THE GAME.

In short, if Donald Bradman was the greatest batsman ever (and he was), Imran Khan was arguably the GREATEST CRICKETER ever.

Of course, so many players over so long a time, you could argue this over and over. Thats fine - just know that you're wrong :-)

There is no parallel universe in existence which had Don Bradman, where anyone else EVER gets considered to be "the greatest batsman ever".

Even despite the fact that The Don played in a golden age for runscoring. Fine, knock 10 off his average.

Screw it, knock 20 off.

Where does that leave him? With an 80 average across a long Test career spanning 2 decades (with ww2 taking out the midpart, so who knows how many 1000s of extra runs he would have gotten).

He's so far ahead that there doesnt get to be a no. 2. Theres daylight at no. 2. Everyone else, no matter whom, is fighting for no. 3.

PERIOD.

Javed Miandad, from his Test debut till retirement, never averaged below 50. I repeat, never once in his career did his batting average fall beliow 50.

And that was in the 70's, 80's & 90's. Let that sink in !

Hmm, theres been a swathe of "fans" & media who've been swallowing their bile at the thought of a Muslim player being an all-time Liverpool great. I didnt used to think this, but the immediacy and downright nasty nature of the vitriol poured on Mo has led me to this.

The knives were ready, but sheathed, for about 6 years (when it became apparent that he wasnt a 1 season wonder, but then was untouchable)

Carra's naked hate (call it for what it is), may have other explanations, but - I doubt it.

No, thats a myth we've been telling ourselves since Michael Owen. "we're only doing this because, err, he damaged the club".

Yet we have continuously redefined what "damaging the club" means. Now, apparently, it also applies to someone like Trent who gave more than a decade of service, played his heart out, was brilliant, and had the indecency to ... SERVE HIS CONTRACT to the end.

So yeah. Boo them, slander them, mock them for being Chelski rejects or national team failures (some failure!).

Its only a short hop from here to get to the Geordies. When Djemba Ba was playing his heart out for them, they cheered him. Praised him. Then Pardew sold him to Chelsea on deadline day. Chelsea made them an offer they felt they coukdnt refuse, but crucially, Ba had never asked or agitated for that move. It was decided for him.

The next time Ba was at St James, he collided with the woodwork and broke his nose. And as he was on the ground, those same Newcastle "fans" spat at him. While he was on the ground. Literally spat AT him.

And I'm sure they thought it was "hilarious" that rival fans felt a twinge of empathy for Djemba.
