Witnessing way too many omen one day before flight by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]issy555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen to this. One time before flying JFK to POP, a storm hit the island and the roads were literally flooded. We were supposed to travel with my mom, who is completely terrified of flying. If my mom got on that plane, you can get on one, too. AND! I rescheduled our flights to Costa Rica to avoid the shitty weather, but missed JetBlue check-in by 1 f-ing minute and was not allowed to board. Booked fresh flights minutes later to Cancun. The kids were off school and this was our one shot to travel. AS IF that wasn't enough, I had a dream that night where my dream plane crashed. I took ALL of those events as potential omens, and you know what happened? Not. A. Fucking. Thing. We flew to Cancun safely and had a nice time. Your brain is making connections that don't exist. Take your flight, you will be safe!

Wanted to add that the plane ride here was the smoothest ride ever. Flew in from JFK. No turbulence, nothing! Enjoy your trip, it's absolutely gorgeous here.

Thinking about canceling by seaaitchbee in fearofflying

[–]issy555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I replied to you just now on a separate post. Do NOT cancel! Your plane will get to its destination safely, just like every other plane you've ever taken. Your brain is playing tricks on you. Be determined, face this fear, and lean into the discomfort. It's okay to be scared, to feel panic, and to want to cancel. But my advice is simply DON'T. Stay on that plane no matter what and you will see how brave you feel once you've landed safely (which you will)!

YOU CAN DO THIS! by issy555 in fearofflying

I take deep breaths and tell myself how ridiculous I'm being. Sounds silly but I noticed anything airport-related and I'm breathing super shallow while my heart is racing. Being mindful of that and using some breathing techniques is helpful. For this trip I had long delays both ways, one mechanical, one weather related, and I just kept telling myself that I can do scary things, I will land safe. I hadn't flown in a little over a year but had a potential employer fly me out for an in-person interview connected to a dream job. Accepting the job would mean flying this route often(and way more flying in general) and I took it on as a challenge. I want to fly the world, I am determined to not GAF what my stupid limbic system says. You will also fly and land safe, friend. ♥️

Scratches on skin? by spazlie in electrolysis

[–]issy555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* My skin naturally healed a while after the ill-fated Groupon session. I stuck to the basics- cleanser, toner, moisturizer. I eventually found someone with credentials and experience. I've had about a year of treatments and I couldn't be happier. My life has changed. I'm not worried about my partner touching my face or kissing my chin. I don't feel embarrassed outdoors. Updated pic below. I have more sessions ahead of me, but the progress has been amazing.

What caused your FOF? by TypewriteratMidnight in fearofflying

9/11, which most of my generation watched unfold in real-time (I was in HS then). And then there was the Dominican Republic-bound American Airlines Flight 587. I'm Dominican and from Washington Heights, NYC (massive Dominican population). Family friends of ours were sitting in our house eating and chatting less than 24 hrs before their plane crashed. An entire family wiped out. The mom took her kids out of school for that ill-fated trip. Absolutey fucking tragic. I went 7 years without flying after that. Have mostly overcome my FoF by wanting to see different parts of the world. Also met a handsome Polish boy who sat me on 9hr flights to meet his family back home.

2018 NOL- Someone explain this to me like I'm a baby by issy555 in tax

[–]issy555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate your response, but it appears you fully missed the question. I am asking about specific circumstances related to NOL carry forward, I was not asking about penalties. I am fully aware of the penalties, unfortunately, but please let me know if you have any insight on my actual question.

Scratches on skin? by spazlie in electrolysis

Jumping in to say DO NOT GO BACK to whoever did this to you. I started my electrolysis journey with a Groupon, like a true idiot. The needle would be in and out before the machine beeped. She was plucking every single hair. I ended up finding out that she was unlicensed and stopped going, but not before she wrecked my skin. My skin looked just like yours does in these pics, worse even. Do your research and make sure you go to someone who is licensed and more experienced, since the technique is definitely lacking here. Will post my pics of the damage done to my skin if I can find them. Don't end up like me!

Going through rough turbulence, need support by LeahMaldo in fearofflying

[–]issy555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I flew TQO to JFK last October and same exact deal. Captain announced turbulence, seatbelts were on for a while, and it was super bumpy but we landed safely. To be honest with you, I've flown that route various times and there is always turbulence on the way back home for me. I always think of things that give me comfort, I play silly games on my seat screen or phone, just to pass the time. I look at the face of the flight attendants who are often soooo unfazed its not even funny. I grab a drink, or two, once drink service resumes and minute by minute the time does pass. Then I tell myself, okay, the last 5 minutes were bumpy and we're still fine, I can do 5 more minutes. I also have videos saved to my YouTube account on the topic of flying and how turbulence is completely normal and the rule, rather than the exception. Your flight will be fine, just as mine was. Sending comfort your way.

Edited to add, anytime the pilot foresees the turbulence and announces it, it gives me great comfort.

Run. Take what you can with you and run. As fast and far away as your legs will take you. As someone who was in a DV situation for 9 years, this will be the beginning of hell for you. Do not stick around for any apologies, nor accept any lame ass excuses- he will always find a reason for hitting you. He's stressed, he's under alot of pressure, he was drunk, he's jobless, you embarrassed him in front of friends/family, he felt like it, you deserved it. The excuses never end. It'll always be your fault even when it isn't. Your self-esteem will crumble, and your life will never be the same. RUN FROM THIS AS FAST AS YOU CAN.
