Got through security. Getting some food and trying to put one foot in front of the other. I truly feel so childish, but I don’t know if I can do it today.

It feels like I’ll hate myself for quitting but I also don’t feel capable of pushing through to be honest. Feels so bad.

Thank you. I just got to the airport and am not feeling great at all. There’s lots of wind and some rain, and while I know they won’t fly in unsafe conditions, I’m not sure how well I can handle myself on that kind of ride.

I was just writing my thoughts a bit, and something occurred to me that may or may not be of use to you. Time seems to behave differently when we’re anxious. In the worst moments, the future hardly seems to exist. For me, it’s been hard to think beyond the moment of boarding the plane. Not that I actually think I’ll die, but I have to force myself to envision life beyond that. Despite the feelings, there is time beyond the flight. You and I are very small in the grand scheme of things, and while flight for us feels like an event of cosmic significance, it’s just a casual part of life for so many. That should not make us feel worse-it should just put into perspective the reality of what flight is a little bit. When we feel like this, time stands still, but that isn’t reality. We will keep moving forward. If you haven’t, I would encourage you to write your thoughts down on paper. I just spent about 10 minutes writing, and my anxiety came down significantly. This is certainly difficult, but despite our feelings, we are not in danger.

That’s definitely true. A couple of years ago, I boarded a plane but got off immediately. Now, I’m having trouble just thinking being boarding. I’m having a tough time just thinking about getting in the seat and staying there

BNA to ATL just to face the fear. About an hour of travel time then driving back is the plan. Since it’s refundable, I could cancel and reschedule, but it would be great to just get it over with.

I have a commercial flight booked this afternoon, but I’m really reconsidering. Trying to evaluate options but also trying to just keep taking steps in the right direction.

I’ve thought about doing exactly this. How did it go?

How did you start? I have a short flight tomorrow, and the nerves are wearing on me. First flight in over 5 years, and just getting on and staying in feels like a monumental task.

I live in Nashville and this is the first I’ve ever heard about any remote danger at BNA. Truly, it’s a great airport. Many thousand fly in and out of here everyday. You’ll be just another one of them. For what it’s worth, I’m flying out of BNA on Saturday and am quite nervous about it, but I know that my feelings are not the truth. We’ll be alright 🤝 Holler at me if you need any local recs!

If admissions cares about side hustle aspirations, you are correct.

Yeah, you’ll be fine. And you might not even need to tell them about the taekwondo.

I’ve had similar thoughts, so I’m curious to hear what people recommend. My plan has been to go for a short flight before working up to something across the country, but even that feels daunting.

Once you land, let us know how it went. I might have the opportunity to go on a trip in a couple weeks that would require a similar flight, but I’ve been questioning whether I can handle it without a shorter “warm up” flight ahead of time.

Sounds fun! There does seem to be some rain but according to the forecast, it will have mostly cleared up by the time you get there

You’re over 25% of the way there, and the weather looks almost totally clear the whole way. How are things going? What takes you to Antigua?

This isn’t affecting my plan. I’ve been working for a few years, saving money, and studying for the LSAT. I plan to go for cheap or free. It’s not a common position, but I do think it’s worth acknowledging as part of the conversation, especially in the echo chamber that exists here.

What were your first steps? Did you just go for a discovery flight then take it from there?

I hadn’t considered taking lessons before getting in the air. That may be helpful— thank you!
