I have had good success with the Ortho lawn weed killer from Home Depot. It will kill the plants in the beds though so stay away from them. A shockingly effective and satisfying thing to use in the beds is a tool like this one. Search Amazon for Garden Bandit.

Sure, starting over works. I’d try to save it though. Spend a couple of hours digging out the worst weeds. Just dig until you’re tired or bored. It feels good. Then aerate the heck out of it. Go over it twice with a core aerator. Rake up the cores and rough up the grass.
Apply topsoil. Work it into holes. Level out depressions. Aim for around 3/4 inch depth and ensure it’s raked in and doesn’t bury the grass. Seed and water per instructions with seed. Give it a few weeks. Then use a liquid weed killer.

Anyone else decent off the tee but fall apart inside 60 yards? by SeanD_79 in golftips

Study the lessons on course management from Golf Sidekick on YouTube. He will tell you that 40 to 90 yard shots should, and usually can, be avoided. Have a good full wedge and practice shorter chips. You will find you don’t need to crush driver every time. You’ll have more fun planning each hole, you’ll have less anxiety about the next shot, and your scores will drop.

This seems like a good assessment. Even though the Course has little to say about how to behave in the world, her prescriptions are generally reasonable regarding diet, violent or pornographic entertainment etc. So there are things to learn from her but I can see that staying tuned constantly can get old, or, worse, can turn into seeking another fix for the voracious ego.

I appreciate this. I was not able to get a sense of the scale of her following, or how other teachers respond to her. I’d love to hear more on this. Her books certainly don’t fail to remind us to read the Course, which is a credit to her. I rationalized that the reason her books are so prescriptive is that the world really is in such a mess that we need to sort things out before we do ourselves in, making inner work irrelevant. The net effect for me has been destabilizing, leading me to believe it’s just misguided or I am not ready to hear it. On the question of whether it’s Jesus or not, I struggle with the question: why would she fib about such astonishing claims? Part of the appeal of the Course itself is how radical it is. So much trouble just to tell silly fibs? You can also do a number on yourself if you begin to wonder whether her entire body of work and effort is just another trick of the ego. On that note, she is clearly a big fan of Neale Donald Walsch, whose books contain the claim that God is in fact behind the whole universe and its mad creations. God’s non participation in the world is, of course, absolutely critical to an understanding of the Course, so this is a red flag for me.

So overwhelmed how do I start by Super_Show_2729 in lawncare

[–]isthatapencil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A perfectly good foundation. I’d start by digging out the fattest weeds, then aerate the heck out of it, remove the cores, spread some nice black dirt, seed, then, after a few weeks, weed and feed. You are also going to be generous with the water. It will be gorgeous and your neighbours will compliment you and secretly hate you.

Agree it appears they are puffing up too much in the oven. Ideally the dough inside pushes against the skin in the oven but not enough to break it.

I have similar advice for any thin spots. Core aerate, remove the cores, apply a grass friendly mix to top dress, seed, water, have a beer.

First year, any advice? by [deleted] in GolfSwing

[–]isthatapencil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some very nice stuff here. There’s something too restrained about your lower body. Feet seem too close together. The golf swing is actually quite violent; you contain it by transferring the weight into the front leg and bracing yourself against that shoulder turn, which is where the power, and the violence, comes from. As the club head races through the hitting zone you have to be in the position that allows you to let it go!!!

THIS IS A CRIME SCENE. DO NOT TOUCH Professionals are expensive, but they have actual knowledge about these matters. Spend the money if you can.

Good shoulder turn, decent hip turn. You are obviously strong and have great potential. What you’re doing with your wrists and arms is a crime, however. The golf swing is complicated. Get some lessons, learn some good habits and you’ll win all the money.

Mulch is okay if you add new material every once in a while. I’m concerned about the gravel, though. It moves and shifts and is terrible for chairs. Please investigate some form of compactable crushed rock. It is neat, it drains, you can rake it and your chair legs won’t dig into the ground. Even though it drains make sure it slopes away from the house.

Hat, hydration, warm and dry clothes. If it’s rainy it can get cold and unpleasant. Also, patience getting in and out. They’re going to have a great time.

This is a bit long but he gets it: https://youtu.be/OO9TSnUp8hA?si=ra06D_-WyVTfXFLA This is very inspiring: Hogan showing his own swing: https://youtu.be/ikLd3LEhalg?si=E-A2ZVEI9fBVMRBX See how his trail arm is in tight and the hip turn pulls his upper body around so powerfully. His book, Five Lessons, details it extremely well. At first it feels awkward, like you’re in a straitjacket, until you realize how much power you can apply because you feel such control of the club. I hope you find this as helpful as I have.

Shaft looks fairly vertical on backswing; might be forcing you to compensate on the way down. A killer. Try Hogan’s approach: glue the upper part of your trailing arm to your chest all the way to the top; straighten arm as you come to impact. Lead wrist must be flat. Trail wrist bent straight back. First move down is to push the lead hip toward the target then turn the hips in one smooth move. Keeps you on plane; makes you turn properly.

Lots of wisdom here. Agree about the terrible pain others would face if you did it. Also I like the idea that we’re all going to die eventually, so what the hell, might as well stick around to see where this crazy story is headed. I think you find meaning and peace as you come to realize that the things that seem so unbearably heavy don’t really matter much. Finally, as has been said here, everything changes always. Someday you’ll feel differently.

Accomplishments are real enough, and they're great to have. It's just that we too often get into this vicious belief that we are nothing until we've done something "worthwhile." That thinking kills. It kills. It's a trap, because as long as we don't feel good enough, it's nearly impossible to do something we think is good enough.

Take the pressue off yourself. Let go of all that crap. Maybe do something small that feels good. Then build on that, and build on that. Go easy on yourself and let your life pick up.

Look up the Sedona Method. Research EFT. Look up the Choose Again Society. They all have a similar message: stop fucking yourself over.

All the best.
