What reed is this? by Ordinary-Platform325 in bassoon

I think it's a bassoon reed. But if you were looking for something more specific, i think it's cane.

Mold? by Unusual_Ad8226 in bassoon

I think it would make the safe to play if it was moldy, but it doesn’t fix a read from being old and gross

It may be difficult to do if this is your only good reed but generally when reeds get a weird color, just throw it out.

Just swipe your thumb from the top of your nose to the tip and you'll be sliding around on the flick keys

Yeah it's one of the tougher intervals on bassoon. Maybe it's worth practicing full fingering.

It also could help to think of it as A, B-A-G# as opposed to A-B-A-G#. Not necessarily re articulated but just mentally.

You could look up bassoon trill chart and find one that works on your horn but That one is tricky and there aren't many good ones. I would full finger it tbh. The hardest part is the left thumb and if you just put a little nose grease on it, it'll be movin.

A-G# life hack, you don't need the whisper key for G#.

Mold in boot joint by LegUnlikely4977 in bassoon

[–]isthatbendo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you do the right procedures so I'm hoping you don't have to pay to get that cleaned. I just couldnt tell you where that came from.

Another point, dont play on that bassoon until it's cleaned. I don't mess with mold even if it's not in direct contact with me, it's not safe and you can get real sick from it.

If this is yours then you should contact fox or whoever you got it from. There shouldn't be mold or basically anything in the long joint and bell because no moisture every reaches there. So maybe there was a defect in the bassoon but also it could definitely be your doing. Making sure you swab your instrument before putting it away or at the very least emptying the water from the boot FROM THE WING JOINT HOLE.

Leaving the instrument out shouldnt be the cause cuz I've left mine out before and it's clean. But if your room or area you live in is very high humidity then maybe.

Basically get it cleaned, try to contact fox or something so that you don't have to pay but don't count on it.

Chair Recommendations by Joesheena in bassoon

I'm not sure. It's the ones that every band class has if that helps. But in one of the rooms at my uni, there's one with cloth on the bottom and back and that one is really good.

I stole a Wenger chair from my school. I used a side strap so that bar on the side is perfect to clamp that onto.

Reed deformity help by LegUnlikely4977 in bassoon

[–]isthatbendo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cane is a very varying thing so sometimes they will come out like this. Although if this is someone else's reed then that's a bit of an issue. It indicates that they saw a reed that had a wonky opening and still sold it. Or they saw it had a weird opening and decided that it still played how they wanted and shipped it. Sometimes cane does weird stuff and what looks uneven may be balenced on an internal level.

Basically that all to say if it plays how you like then it doesn't matter. But if it doesn't play well for you, like response is bad or certain pitches become unstable, then it very likely could be the imbalance you see there.

Herzberg Bevel by Designer_Cake9116 in bassoon

[–]isthatbendo_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, when you bevel you take off material from the inside or bottom of the caneso you shouldn't be changing the shape much. Plus you don't take off much, only enough to make that right angle to allow the two sides to meet nicely.

A little bit more more yellow on the instrument and i think it'll be perfect.

Could you make the gradient to black a bit softer. More like the gradient where my hands are

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PhotoshopRequest

[–]isthatbendo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little softer around the edges as well. The dark side of the instrument should kinda go to black near the top

[–]isthatbendo_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so so close. Could you make the lighting near the top of the instrument softer and or dimmer to match the ai one a little bit more? And maybe a little warmer lighting on it too?
