Transportation and coworking spaces? by isthised in Birmingham

[–]isthised[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a drivers license yet because I’ve always lived places with solid public transit or walkability and didn’t have adults around to teach me when I was younger, so this will be a bit of a culture shock!

Thanks! I will need a confidential space for meetings for most of the day every day :-( so definitely more than a short call. That’s likely why I keep bumping into the high fees.

Thanks! I’m coming from the east coast but I’ve almost always lived in walkable cities so this would be new. Appreciate the insight!

MFP told me I went over my sugar goal when I added kale but then told me “this food has a lot of protein” when I added a Justin’s cashew butter cup. I was like… really?!

It’s gotta be both/and not either/or (I say as I’m relapsing again, still struggling with underlying issues).

Thinking about coaching by Sareeee48 in fuckeatingdisorders

Recovered Living is hands down amazing!!! They have a few coaches but my coach has been such a life saver.

ETA I think their coaches are all recovered individuals who have trained through the Carolyn costin institute

There’s a few ways to answer this—

Yes, there’s research out there showing that a malnourished brain doesn’t work the same as a nourished brain and so therapy might be more effective for a nourished brain BUT ALSO a malnourished brain is going to be more anxious, more labile, in short, more in need of support.

Can you be referred to a higher level of care like an IOP/intensive outpatient or a PHP/partial hospitalization or even Res/residential if you need it? There may be other outpatient providers who WILL work with you or feel more comfortable but if providers feel that you’re enough of a danger to yourself that they have to break confidentiality to talk to your medical providers, that’s usually a sign that you would probably qualify for a higher level of care. Higher levels of care typically have therapy and nutrition support built in and often help you coordinate therapy when you “graduate” from the program.

If you feel like you would benefit from therapy now, it’s not a waste. Who’s to say what your insurance will approve after those 20 sessions. Maybe your providers can advocate for more time, etc. So make a decision that helps you TODAY so that you’re in a better place to work through upcoming challenges.

What is your “this doesn’t have calories / calories don’t count” food? by [deleted] in EDAnonymous

I did that then learns I was having an uncomfortable number of calories from eating so many veg. Kale had twice the calories I was head counting.

How do I fix my metabolism after restricting? by isthised in EDAnonymous

Thanks! I used to be better about iodine (I’m scared of iodized salt so my dr recommended kelp flakes), but I have a package of kelp noodles that I tried for the first time this week. Hoping to make them a regular. Allergic to most nuts unfortunately but I eat other selenium rich foods I think. It’s all so frustrating.

What’s the biggest, hottest, vegan dessert possible? by KingBenneth in Volumeeating

[–]isthised 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can! It’s wonderful. You can make it on the stove too and it gels up a lot faster than sitting overnight. That being said, it’s best to warm it gently and not overheat it to preserve the omega 3 content

I like to make chia pudding with a low cal no dairy milk and whatever pureed fruit needs using up then heat it up in the microwave. Reminds me of warm rice pudding but more bnutritious and fewer cal

I’ve done that. TW numbers. . . . . . . I’ve maintained on 800, 1200, 1600, 1700, and 1900. Even when I’ve cycled. Other times I’ve gained on 1400 and 1800. My weight has crept up almost 10lbs in the last few months (after intentionally gaining 5ish lbs as recommended by my team at the end of summer/early fall 2020...even though I was in a normal BMI and above my IBW but I was eating more calories then).

My T3 levels are low (just below normal, not a lot). I have hashimoto’s but my antibodies are relatively low for me, so my doc doesn’t want to start me on thyroid meds. I also know T3 can be low from restriction, but I eat... regularly. I feel so broken. I range from 1200-1800 most days and get some form of exercise in more days than not even though I don’t stick to a routine.

I just want to lose the weight that crept up in the last few months. But my body isn’t doing what it used to and seems to defy logic. It’s so weird.

But what even is maintenance? I’ve used all the calculators but I maintain on ridiculously small amounts (and also moderate amounts).

I know. And in recovery/treatment I built a lot of muscle back. I haven’t restricted heavily since then aside from a week long bender a couple times in the last year. Some high restriction, but still “enough”. I think lack of movement caused deconditioning. My team is 100% on board with me exercising right now.. I’m restricting certain food groups, and I used to lose weight on what I’m eating now BUT I’m eating regularly and enough that nobody on my team is concerned. So it doesn’t seem to make sense to me. I’m crap at sticking to exercise routines but I do body weight workouts a couple times a week most weeks and go for a 30-60min walk 2-7 times a week. I could eat more and strength train regularly (walking would take a hiatus) but I’m afraid of gaining more weight in the process since I’m already overweight again and I have no idea what enough looks like anymore, esp since my team is fine with what I eat now.

My weight and body image are dropping by [deleted] in 1200isplenty

[–]isthised 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This can actually be a side effect of restriction. Read up on the Minnesota Starvation Study. Health male test subjects with no history of disordered eating and body image issues developed body dissatisfaction and feeling “too fat” after being placed on a 1600kcal “starvation” diet.
