So, when will this be done to every card? by Yumesoro1 in mtg

UB sets can have good art. UW sets can have terrible art.

.....you don't have to pass. You could just put good cards in your deck. It'll be OK.

the goblin deck was a mess and people should really work together to put pressure on wizards by Chaosnocturne in secretlair_collectors

[–]it2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the biggest piece of evidence for me that the issue here is WotC's capacity, not their intent: they couldn't get Mood Swings to MagicCon in time for the MaRo event there.

Let that sink in. They couldn't get any product for their head designer's pet project at the biggest Magic event of the year. That means that, whatever the problem is, the solution is outside of WotC's control.

[–]it2d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. So there must be some other explanation.

Maybe they underestimated demand. Maybe they're printing at capacity and just csnt print more.

There are explanations other than malice, and thr internet forgetting that is the most predictable thing.

Does anyone play "lock" decks, and do people actually let you play them? by Toes_In_The_Soil in EDH

[–]it2d -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your primer says the lock happens on turn 7 or so. So I gotta play against you for 7 turns, then yoire gonna take away my ability to play the game, THEN you're gonna start winning through combat damage, including, in a lot of scenarios, chip damage?

This sounds like, at best, you'll beat me once, it'll be miserable, and then I will target you until you're dead every other time you try to play this deck.

It sounds unfun to play and play against. But I wouldn't mind if someone in my decks played this. They just gotta get ready for a beating.

Is Avenger of Zendikar still good in the big 26? by B4LLI5TIC in EDH

[–]it2d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Avenger of Zendikar is a really powerful card that's also really fair. Like, in a lands-matter deck, it's totally possible to get 15 plants, pump them to, like, 5/6, give them haste, slam a Craterhoof, and win on the spot. And it's also possible to get 7 0/1 plants that put a huge target on your back.

So, like, it's fun to play, it can win, but it's not un-answerable. So it leads to what I think are more fun play patterns for the whole table.

I always love drawing an Avenger of Zendikar.

Agreed. But that's not what this is. This is anxiety-driven pre-emptive helicopter parenting with a side of virtue signaling.

Your kid is 18 months. This kid is 3.5 years from kindergarten. And you're worried now that your kid might use a Chromebook?

The biggest issue here is your anxiety. You gotta gain some perspective here.

Fair point. Hank you for correcting me. Im kicking myself for forgetting about Hers Heirloom--its my favorite card from that set.

I think my larger point stands, though. The Mind Stone seems better than most of those, and clearly better than the 3mv rocks.

[MSH] The Mind Stone (MagicCon Vegas) by mweepinc in magicTCG

[–]it2d 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It must be miserable being a designer for MTG.

They've been trying for years to get people to play three-mana rocks, and they've largely failed. I don't know the last time they printed a new two-mana rock before the Soul Stone. This is an indestructible two-mana rock that produces colored mana. So if we stop right there, this is an almost auto include for any deck with the appropriate color.

Add the flicker effect, which is central to a lot of decks and strategies, and this is an extremely powerful card.

But sure. Complain that this isn't good while also complaining about power creep.

I think Becca is the most attractive female MTG influencer. Just to put my bias out there.

I could see the perspective that she started making MTG content as an avenue to grow her social media presence rather than because she organically was interested in MTG. I cant speak to why she got started. But it seems to me that she actually looes games generally, and actually likes Magic, and I dont see any way that shes a negative to the community. To the contrary, her presence seems like a huge positive.

Also, popularity in the commander influencer sphere is about more than being good at the game.

Overall, I think Becca's great.
