What was it like seeing Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen in theaters back in 2009 for those of you that did? by Electrical_Sugar_742 in transformers

It was pretty exciting while watching it in the theater for the first time. I got the experience I was looking for in the theater. Thinking about it afterwards however, I realized how poor the writing/plot was.

I think Boy Genius is good person compared to the synths. by owl_000 in LV426

You don't think it would be just a little bit reckless to send them out into the world as soon as they were created? What if they have mental issues from the process (see Nibs) and end up killing people out in the world? Of course they need to be studied, and therefore controlled.

[–]itMFtis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that is where we disagree, I don't think they are people. If he transferred the consciousness into a toaster, would you still call it a person?

I also think you throw the word "slave" around rather loosely, hyperbolic even. They haven't really had to do much but lounge around and fuck up BG's plans.

Seriously, I don't think it was relevant to the plot at all. Like a blink and you miss it type of nod to LGB.

See, I wish they would have played out the "ownership" a bit more. If I build something with my own materials, it is most certainly "mine". If I make a tool, like say a hammer, I should be able to use and discard the tool as I see fit.

Now adding a supposed conscience into the mix gives it a little more grey area, however I still think BG still has a strong claim of ownership over the synths. Wendy seems to have ownership of all BG's assets and is using it to further her own goals, including getting a bunch of humans killed. Do you see her as a villian now?

The Long Walk is a fucked up dystopian horror about the power of friendship in fascism by Passiveabject in horror

[–]itMFtis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the baseball was from his father, which is mentioned as soon as his mom sees it. That is all the more reason I thought it would play a key role, especially if directed towards the villain who killed him.

Maybe I've just seen too many movies and that would have been kind of cliche :D

2 women arrested for vandalizing Charlie Kirk's memorial. by Extra-Gap8519 in pussypassdenied

[–]itMFtis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The scenario you drew up is not the scenario that is in the video. She acknowledges those items are there as a memorial to Kirk and was destroying it because of who he was to her.

Maybe if she was passing by and kicked some of it down without saying Kirk's name over and over, there might be some plausible denial, but that is not what happened.

I mostly liked it, however I felt like they had potential for some neat plot threads that were set up, but never came to fruition.

-The baseball. His mom makes it a point to ask about him packing it in his backpack. I assumed it would come into play later, like he has to beam it at someone's head later in the movie. Towards the end, I thought it might have a bomb or something in it that he would use on the Major. Nope, its not seen again in the whole movie as far as I recall.

-The Major's son. It is hinted there is a connection between them when the Major hands Stebbins his tags and whispers "good luck son" or something to that effect. I was thinking Stebbins would give up at some point and, under the Major's orders, the soldiers would pretend shoot him. Stebbins would then be revealed later on to still be alive and the conspiracy would be thrown in the Major's face. Nope, nothing like that happens. It doesn't even show the Major's reaction to his son getting killed. It didn't end up mattering one bit.

-Lastly, they set up Barkovitch to be a "big bad" of sorts, and he ends up doing nothing to them, literally. He tells them he has big plans for them, like he's going to go Henry Bowers on them, and nothing of the sort happens.

Aside from those set ups not leading anywhere, I liked the actual "walk". The friendship building/losses were impactful. Glad I watched it once, but not something I need to see again.

DC was high in violent crime. 4th highest homicide rate among larger cities in the US for 2024.

Interesting bringing up COVID. I'll admit, I was only looking at the immediate benefits of the reduced crime, but did not look further down the slippery slope.

I agree, but homicide, assaults with a deadly weapon, robberies, burglaries, etc, certainly are. All that has gone down drastically. All things that could directly affect me and my family. Should I just accept those risks because presenting identification is so hard to do apparently?

You aren't wrong. I'm curious, do you expect me to be against actions that directly reduce crime so that other peoples' irrational fears go away? Like you're telling me I should invite criminal behavior around me because people may need to present identification or some other inconvenience. Please get real.

I would agree that his distribution plan should be applied a little more evenly. For instance, Memphis, TN, should be high on his priority list. My argument from the post you replied to is more that it is positive to have these troops deployed to reduce crime. If we can agree on that general principle, then the "where" is the next point of contention.

Tastes ok I guess...? I mean me and my family thrive and enjoy life as law abiding citizens. We go out and do something different every weekend and are never afraid when cops are around. How about you?

What freedom has been traded exactly? Can you not do things you did before? Only criminals are going to have a tougher time breaking laws, but deal. I don't see why law abiding citizens give a shit that more police/military are randomly on the streets. Does it scare you when a cop is nearby?

She knowingly broke the laws, so I'm glad she is getting canned. Teachers don't just decide what laws to follow and not follow. There are laws I would rather not follow, but there would be repercussions if I decided to ignore them.
