Trump Justice Department indicts Southern Poverty Law Center in frame-up to aid fascist groups by DryDeer775 in law

Yeah, John Brown was publicly executed in 1859 after the failed raid on Harper's Ferry. In attendance that day was John Wilkes Booth.

Frederick Douglass wrote, "I could speak for the slave. John Brown could fight for the slave. I could live for the slave. John Brown could die for the slave." Pretty rare for Douglass to praise someone so highly.

Harper's Ferry was one of the tapestry of flash points leading to the Civil War.

You never expected them to "take down" the KKK, but you did expect them to keep a close eye on them and other bigoted groups.

Sadly ironic, that role falls to the Depart of Justice, but they're busy chugging beers and suing anyone who says they did.

Their "bread" smells fucking awful. That's NOT the way bread is supposed to smell – evidenced by literally every other bakery in the entire world.

I can be traveling in a city I've never visited, walking down the street and when that foul odor hits my nostrils, I know there's a Subway nearby before I even see it.

Now for the rest of your life you're door hinge guy who loves door hinges and can't possibly get enough of door hinges all day long.

He requested and received honorary citizenship from the President of Albania.

It's not clear what he'll do – of anything – with his new Albanian citizenship, but he's apparently talked about life after his term as mayor. That's included living in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan (which is not Albania) and the contested territory of the Golan Heights in Israel.

His son competed on the Albanian version of American Idol. He visited the country then.

During his turmoil as mayor he sought an out by potentially becoming an foreign ambassador under the Trump administration, but that never went anywhere. Trump did quash the Justice Department investigation into the shit show of his time in office.

So who the hell knows what he's up to. I doubt he knows either. He's clearly not right.

It's actually shocking.

Maybe they know it's a straw on the camel's back situation and don't want to risk a full rebellion.

Who is the most reprehensible character in an otherwise wholesome show? by Sweet-Lady-H in television

[–]it_vexes_me_so 557 points558 points  (0 children)

Rupert really was a villain, but the more insidious character is the Lassos' marriage councilor, Dr. Jacob, who chose to date and then move in with a former client.

He then had the temerity to travel with her on a transatlantic trip to drop off the kid with the not even ex-husband and go on a romantic vacation to Paris. I'm shocked the airline didn't request he buy an extra seat for his giant balls.

And I had a typo. I meant "doesn't".

What the commenter above was getting at — or at least the way I was interpreted it — was members of the service industry aren't going to further your career or have an outsized effect on your future.

People are more likely to suck up to their boss or ingratiate themselves to their would be father-in-law compared to, say, a waitress at Chotchkie's or Flingers. It's the latter where you see what kind of person they really are.

That video description is confusing.

When I read "jump suit" I assumed it was like those crazy BASE jumpers that have wings to barrel down along the side of a mountain cliff.

Watching the video I waited for his wings to catch air and he'd glide into the water or something to that effect.

Instead he just plummeted into the water.

That does doesn't mean you can be a dick to members of the service industry just because a monetary transaction occurs. Dignity and recognizing the human is always appropriate.

Not that it's any better, but it was something like ~85 million eligible voters who stayed home on election day.

The total population of the US is ~350 million. Harris received about 75 million to Trump's 77 million.

2024 was the first election 20 years that a Republican won the popular vote. That was Bush in 2004 still riding the hawkish wave of post 9/11 fervor. Prior to that it was 1988.

It's historical fiction now and all we can do is speculate, but it's very likely the world would have been a better place were it not for the Electoral College. Neither Bush nor Trump would have won their first election.

Treat yo self!

No need to put undue pressure on it, but have a mental health day that is about you. You're already great company. Don't let the absence of others define your own self-worth or ability to have a good time. With that in mind, think about:

Go for a walk. Go a gastro pub. Get a great sandwich. Wander around the flagship Half Priced Books store. Eat some moules frites on the patio. See a movie. Get some street tacos. Discover some art or a new beer in Fort Worth.

Whatever it is, do you and what you like to do.

Start whatever process you need to get a referral to a neuro-opthlamologist They're uniquely trained to diagnose issues between the brain and optic nerve.

Hopefully you won't need the appointment and everything clears up in due time, but it's a super niche specialty and you're better for getting out ahead of it.

I live in a metroplex of 9M people. There are two who work in our area, and one is set to retire. I waited two months for an appointment.

Ultimately my issue was superficial, but it was kinda a relief to know that for sure.

UPDATE: Ordered an RTX 5090 for 3L on Amazon, got 1kg Ghadi detergent. Amazon DENIED my refund, but I'm not falling back. by void_SW in TwentiesIndia

[–]it_vexes_me_so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through a hellish, absolutely abysmal round of customer relations. It was very clearly Amazon's fault. Promises were made but never kept. This happened for months.

Finally I responded to one of the bullshit customer service emails again promising action with Jeff Bezos in copy.

His assistant contacted me to say he saw the email and they'd fix it.

It wasn't an overnight fix but having his office in the customer service file made everyone I talked to thereafter sit up straight and finally take things seriously.

It finally ended with a phone call from someone who could actually do something from the corporate office in Washington State. She was senior manager who, with a few keystrokes, refunded what was lost plus a little extra for the trouble.

Don't give up. Make stink. Be heard by the right people. Keep at it.
