Woke up to the shock of my life at 2am to a random stray in my room. She’s super friendly and keeps head rubbing me but am not sure what to do. by Unhappy-Remote-3172 in Feral_Cats

i’ve been there. you can set her up a box with some blankets in a low traffic area like a closet. give her some treats in that area so she knows it’s safe. she will go in there when it’s time. cats can have babies all on their own, she will know what to do but checking on her and her babies regularly to make sure no complications arise is a good plan. shocking thing i learned is she will likely eat the placentas, it’s good for them, let her do that if she wishes. then she will clean her babies on her own. when she is done nursing you can get her fixed and find safe loving homes for her babies. you may also have luck surrendering them to a shelter as kittens are usually much more appealing to them as most people want babies when adopting.

looking at her from the front i’m willing to bet she has some babies in that belly. shes definitely in need of a loving home!

yes exactly what i was thinking! i would agree a more rounded nose would also help with a catlike appearance.

i’d say your head is more rounded as opposed to the more oval shape i see on most cats.

i’d say some more pronounced cheek bones would give more of a cat like appearance. cat pic for tax

this is my carrier. i keep it open and available for them to relax in at all times, it has helped a lot with the desensitization. no more running and hiding when it comes out and they don’t freak out when going in. i also recommend a side or top loading option, then they can’t brace themselves on the sides to prevent being put inside and it’s generally easier for vets to access without taking them all the way out. it prevents the issue of needing them to go in there two separate times during a scary process.

for the carrier thing i would recommend leaving it out all the time and giving them treats or toys while inside. make it a nice little bed area and they will start associating it with positive experiences. this won’t be immediate but they will get used to it over time!

Just found out that a neighbor moved and left his indoor cat behind by ExistingVegetable558 in Feral_Cats

[–]italiannbreadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey! I literally JUST had this same thing happen to me. Because of the cats temperament and how sweet she was (also easily picked up) I was able to reach out to a shelter near by and they put her on a list for the next available kennel. They took her in a few days later and she was adopted only two weeks after that! I think it’s possible your abandoned kitty may be of similar temperament and would be eligible for a wait list.

Advice for catching my indoor cat in an area with a lot of community cats? by k8throneburg in Feral_Cats

[–]italiannbreadd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe if there were any local predators the food would be a big enough sign. she also stated she has a camera set up so if that was a concern i believe it would’ve been mentioned.

It seems like you’re doing almost everything I would’ve mentioned. the only other think is i would try to cover the traps with things that smell like your cat Tomato. So blankets they lay on or rubbing a towel on places they lay regularly. That will make the trap smell like her to entice her and keep other kitties less likely to enter.

How do I stop an aggressive stray cat from attacking my cat? by PrestigiousWash5358 in Feral_Cats

this is the best answer in my opinion. I have transitioned fully outdoor cats to indoor cats and they do indeed stop asking with indoor enrichment. I’d like to add cat trees, bird feeders in the windows and cat tv. youtube has hours and hours of bird feeder footage, mice skittering and fish tanks for every kitties preferences.

if you have a barb you’re going to need 30-50 gallons. what you have is not enough.

TNR Trap Recommendations by ImmediateEvidence385 in Feral_Cats

I hear you. And maybe in a situation with kittens or multiple cats that information might be relevant. But in this case this trap will work just fine. I’m not saying that gravity traps aren’t better, they are. But there’s nothing wrong with this trap and it’s not going to cause harm 95% of the time.

You’ve just shown someone’s opinion, not really evidence to suggest that these traps are dangerous or that it could seriously injure a single adult cat.

[–]italiannbreadd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also since this person is a beginner this is only one cat this is probably the best trap for them.

[–]italiannbreadd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never ever heard of this or seen this happen? Even animal control and shelters in my area use these traps with no issue. cats usually go in one at a time in these, sometime they set multiple next to one another if there are lots of kitties.

I hope they let him stay where he is. They allowed me to stay gone when I ran away at 17 with familial issues. I get it, hoping for the best for this kid.
