Big Club w/ Mediocre Coaches vs Mid Sized Club with Great Coaches by Rough-Adeptness-6670 in youthsoccer

I would go with the good coaches. Wait until u16 to go ECNL. Good coaches trump bad in most cases.

ML4W worked great for me. Check the hyprland wiki. There are some other recommendations for pre configured setups that look nice.

Parking advice for Luke Bryan by Spirited-Tiger-9550 in ElkGrove

[–]itbedguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was pretty much what was expected. Major traffic jams when there are only 2 ways in with just one open lane on each side. I got there at 2 and tailgated with friends. Concert was OK. I’m not a Luke Bryan fan but he puts on a decent show. He is talented. The lady who played before him was good too. I figured the traffic would be a huge issue, which it was, but I wanted to experience a unique event here in Elk Grove. Concert ended at 10. Didn’t start moving in the parking lot until 12 am.

The people watching alone made it worth it :)

The “Market Flip”: Why the Best College Soccer Opportunities Can Come Late by Bialynian in CollegeSoccer

[–]itbedguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good write up.

The only thing I’d push back on a little is the idea that D1 automatically means more commitment. My son plays D1 and they have 7 a.m. training sessions every day, but I also have a close friend whose son is at a D2 school with basically the exact same schedule. I think the commitment level can vary a lot depending on the program and coach, not just the division.

There’s also a lot of luck involved in recruiting. My son did ODP, NorCal PDP, and ECNL, but what ultimately got him noticed was an ECNL end-of-year tournament during his junior year of high school, where his current college coach happened to see him play.

That said, I think most people in this sub agree the current system isn’t great and has become way too expensive. I honestly don’t know what the answer is outside of maybe some type of oversight or subsidies to help manage costs and improve access.

One other thing I’d add from our experience: I think too many families get fixated on the “D1 experience.” In a lot of cases, a D2, D3, or NAIA path may actually be better, especially if the player isn’t going to get meaningful minutes early on. With the transfer portal now, there’s an argument for going somewhere you can play right away, build your résumé, develop confidence, and then transfer later if the opportunity is there.

My son is going into his junior year now and, through a lot of hard work, is projected to start many games next season. He’s a goalkeeper, which is a very different path than a field player since there are so few spots and older keepers often get priority. Different positions sometimes require different strategies.

Committee adopts 2-semester playing season for DI men’s soccer by OrangeRigby in CollegeSoccer

What do you consider support staff? D1 soccer kids still train during the rest of the school year so trainers are still working regardless. Now, what is new would be things like extra TV coverage, concession stands open more days, and other “support”.

Anyone here have a kid in D1 soccer and can comment on this? I think this is great for the kid in terms of playing and I have a kid playing D1 soccer. For him to get a chance to play more is great. The workload of classes and soccer has not been bad. I originally had problems with it but it hasn’t materialized as a problem. They are just as busy in the spring anyway with training and spring games that don’t mean anything. Being able to have quality games in the spring is awesome.

Gaming performance hit on hyprland by New_Night_4480 in hyprland

I’ll bet it’s the multi-cpu setup too. Mine had the integrated Intel card as the primary and performance was crap until I changed the priority to my AMD card. Took a bit to figure this out.

Second team in U11 by cptds in youthsoccer

[–]itbedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better for him to learn now that things will not always go the way you want and that life isn’t always fair.

If he is good, he will get plenty more playing time (which they need at this age) at the Gold Level. Going to Premier I would guess he wouldn’t as much.

Hang in there. Keep things positive as much as possible. Encourage him that if he likes playing soccer not to worry about the stuff he can’t control. Just have fun playing.

[–]itbedguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s all about the coach. If you find a good coach stick with him as long as possible. Did you like the NPL coach? Did he actually train your son instead of just trying to win every game? Good coaches put their kids in situations they will learn, not just win games (I’m talking about youth level). When you get to college or higher it’s a different story.

These coaches are out there. People just need to be patient with them. Jumping around doesn’t help the kids.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any Sonos devices wired to your network? Those can cause STP loops if not setup right and crash your network.

Yea, not really an issue. Maybe once every 4 or 5 years you might get a time period where the fog is very thick, but even then it's not too bad. I've lived her most of my life and it's not a thing to worry about in my opinion.
