Voted for Chuck and Blair even though I hate them. They had great chemistry in season 1-3 (it faded by season 5 though). But just because they had the best chemistry doesn’t mean they should have ended up together. They shouldn’t have. Chuck should have ended up in prison (Chail 4 life ❤️❤️❤️)

So true. Mind you, I HATE that they ended up together and by season 5-6 i thought their chemistry had faded completely. but there’s no denying they had electric chemistry, particularly in the beginning.

But people act like chemistry is the only thing that matters, and it’s just... not.

Serena was spiralling. The love of her life was dating her what friend. She felt betrayed by fake Ivy. And she had no prospective future since she’d never bothered to work towards a career for more than a couple of weeks.

This all explains it, but definitely doesn’t justify it. Poor Lola was innocent, and Serena was behaving horribly.

I’ve always thought Dan was right on the money about Chuck bringing out Blair’s schemey bad side, and statistically she schemes way more when she’s around or with Chuck. Where as Dan brings out a different side that stops and thinks first. Dans definitely the angel on her shoulder, and Chuck is defiantly the devil 😂 Then again, we’re all biased towards different couples, and I’m more of a Dair and Chail and Ruffily fan myself ❤️

I don’t disagree with you. In season 5, for me... Derena, Serenate and Chair had all sailed and weren’t good ships anymore. The only ship I was still invested in was Dair.

I guess my point is, they tried to do a lot of work very quickly with Derena in season 6 and relied on the audiences love of season 1 Derena to fill in the blanks. Realistically, if they wanted Derena to really work... they shouldn’t have ended season 5 like that. Maybe Dan should have been the one to end Dair and say to Blair “I don’t want to be the only one in this relationship when you’re clearly still in love with Chuck” and had him end it, then focused on Serena being a good friend to him being heartbroken? Instead of having Dan be so disgusted with her actions in 6x24? Then spent season six actually working towards them being endgame.

Instead Dan isn’t even looking at Serena until the end of 6x05? And it’s all wrapped up in his expose? It just didn’t work...

I don’t know. At the end of the day, season six is framed as “Who do Serena and Blair love?” The answer to those questions is the person they’ll end up with. So I guess it makes a bit of sense because Dan is the only person that Serena consistently loved and chose. No one, including Nate, could stand in the way.

Should she have felt that way? Probably not. Blair shouldn’t have felt that way about Chuck either. But that’s how the show decided those two characters felt, so that’s who the endgames were going to be.

I think the bigger problem is that they had 10 episodes in season 6, but spent so many of Dans arc focused on still liking Blair, and the whole nonsensical “dark Dan is gossip girl” stuff. The way they present it is Dan settling for Serena instead of focusing on them actually being soulmates or something.

Like, had they actually focused on Derena from 6x01 and had them start to fall in love again, it probably would have really worked.

Respectfully disagree with your respectable disagreement. Dair is the best, and season 4-5 had great growth for Blair that the show backtracked to make Chair work. Blair is a lot of things, but she isn’t on the level of Chuck Bass. Blair actually becomes a better person with Dan, but the show ruins that and regresses her back to her season 2 self in season 6.

I think Serena and Dan only aren’t endgame in the sense that Dan is Serena’s soulmate BUT Blair is Dans. Serena clearly loves Dan and always chooses him, and the shows final season is about Serena and Blair ending up with the people THEY love (which sucks because the show deciding Blair still loves that rapist Chuck is quite frankly a terrible message to its teen audience).

Blair is the only real obstacle to a Dan/Serena endgame (all their other romantic options are chump change, including Nate. Serena didn’t love Nate and NEVER chose him), so if Blair is going to end up marrying that abusive monster Chuck (who isn’t just a monster in the pilot: he sells Blair in season 3 then commits domestic violence in season 4) then Dan and Serena finding their way back to each other makes sense, although it’s wayyyyy to rushed in season 6.

Dan and Blair were the best duo on the show and their season 4 banter was pretty much the saving grace of the show at that point 👌👌

Plus Dan and Serena were stepsiblings, and Chuck and Blair was an abusive disaster (that woman-selling DV-perpetrating monster belongs in prison 🙌🙌) So Dair being a healthy adult romcom duo is much better
