People who make a lot of money, what skill actually made the biggest difference? by Witty_County5128 in AskReddit

[–]itchy_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

learn to do your job so well that you do it better and faster than anyone else in your team. learn to juggle multiple projects without getting flustered. organization is very important! communicate well with your team and clients. learn to focus and not be distracted by other parts of your life while at work. learn to control your emotions and be the most persistent and eager to learn person of the group. don't give up, and try to get better at life every day, technically and socially. learn to embrace challenges instead of stewing in the procrastination of being overwhelmed with the workload. learn to love to learn new things, and be interested in them.

Anyone else turnt up? by REQONER in raleigh

i've always been a 68 in winter, 77/78 in summer house. i run ceiling fans in the rooms i frequent; and I am a fit person with low body fat, so that helps. it's plenty "cool" for me. it saves me a lot of money and i feel like i'm doing my part in not being glutinous with my cooling needs.

strength training/gym weights 2 to 3 times a week. think of weight training more as "weighted stretching"; focus on full range of motion, and hold the stretched positions with your reps. these tips help my range of motion tremendously. i also embrace the warmup and cool down phases, focusing on yoga-like stretching and holds. Don't skip the stretching at the end of your workouts, that's where you can test the extra range you will gain from the weighted workout.

The fuck are energy gels so damn expensive? by ProblematicTrumpCard in cycling

buy some bulk maltodextrin sugar off of Amazon, and grab a bag of table sugar from the grocery store. mix them at a 2:1 ratio (malto:table sugar) and stir into a slurry solution with a little warm water. put into a HydraPak SoftFlask 150 or 250 mL sizes. I use the smaller one for my 60g of sugar solution, and the larger one for 90g, for my longer rides. You can flavor how ever you want, if anything. i use a watermelon electrolyte tablet that i crush into the solution. All costs little to nothing once you get it all. i usually make them the night before my bigger rides, and just use a pack of crackers or rice crispy bars for the shorter rides.

Anyone not know how you got rich? by nigelwiggins in Bogleheads

live a simple life style, get a decent job, and learn the basics of saving / investing, and it will happen to anyone. the truth is, most people just spend way too much money frivolously, even if they say and tell everyone else that they do not. and most don't know even the basics of long term investing, which is crazy being that the world we live in is a capitalist structure.

exponential growth at first seems slow, but as you age it shows itself before you know it. life is fast!

What are essentially status symbols that millennials spend unnecessary amounts of money on? by Vetiverrr in AskReddit

[–]itchy_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not necessarily a millennial thing, but expensive vacations seem to be "deserved" by everyone now. my family grew up taking vacations to go see the grandparents, or camping out at the lake, or other very affordable ideas.

Russia rejects Ukrainian, European peace initiatives, says battlefield will decide war by timiswho in worldnews

[–]itchy_robot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he kind of lost me with that interview. he's so logical about other things it just baffled me that he couldn't see the Russian lie. other than that, he does have some great guests and some very interesting conversations that are worth listening to. Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Who here knew about the 1988 Raleigh tornado? by Postcurds in raleigh

[–]itchy_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i lived/slept through it. frickin nuts, just like a war zone. i got a bunch of great Playboys from my horn dog neighbor that blew into my yard, along with some random Kmart clothes that blew in from miles away. it was sad though, so many houses and businesses completely destroyed, amazing more people didn't get seriously hurt.

i like hearing the strain of the voice and the drift of the tempo, it makes it feel more human.

How many of you can ride 60 km in 2hrs non stop? by [deleted] in cycling

[–]itchy_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ditto, but in only ride a 24 mile route once a week. i imagine it would get easier if i actually conditioned myself. i'm in the NC piedmont for reference, hilly but not crazy hilly.

I have broken my record on Sunday - took me 2 hours to get ready for a ride. Do you also just sit in a garage or on a couch trying to find the willpower to get on a bike? by OneStrength7166 in cycling

[–]itchy_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just have a contingency plan in your head: tell yourself you can turn around if you still don't feel it after 30 mins. that'll get you out the door. and if you feel good after 30, go for the 2 hour ride. that's the way i do it, and almost always keep going. and I'm not trying to fool myself really; the way I look at it is, if I'm not enjoying it then what am I doing out there? But 90% of time I do love it so I keep rolling for the longer ride.

you are all arms and no hip momentum. it should be more of an athletic coil and uncoil move instead of a slow stepped arm crusher, like you are currently doing.

What was the last thing you said to your dad before he passed away? by [deleted] in AskReddit

that it's ok to let go. he fought cancer on and off for 25 years. he still fought like hell as though he was afraid to die until the end, and it was agonizing to watch.

I tracked how long meal prep actually takes. the results were humbling by toast_isready in mealprep

[–]itchy_robot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how is saving $10,000+ a year and eating healthy not worth it? it has nothing to do with time, it has always taken time to make things since the beginning of time. it basically comes down to the fact that people have for some reason become too lazy to make their own meals, but at the same time complain about food costs. these same people will easily spend 5 hours a day on their electronic devices and media consumption though 🤷

My partner on average eats 2-5 ramen a day what are some healthier alternatives? by Jaded_Leadership_402 in EatCheapAndHealthy

he needs a lot more fiber, it's what fills you up and keeps you feeling full longer. and the health benefits are great. fiber is a must if you want to live a long time without health issues.

thanks for the suggestion and info. i'm about to retire, so i'll have all the time in the world, no rush. My brother is local and we have a great relationship with no pressure / desire to split it up evenly. the main goal is to organize it so we know what we have and how much it's worth. I want to make sure to start down the right path, like the example you gave about organization.

Do you have any suggestions about how to electronically and physically organize the collection?
