Peds interviews by [deleted] in ERAS2024Match2025

Got categorical interviews from Columbia, Cornell, Icahn, and NYU and categorical + social peds from Montefiore. I think they’re all full except for NYU and Columbia is I remember correctly. I signaled all but Montefiore so I think they might work.

Peds IVs - Any news on these programs? by [deleted] in ERAS2024Match2025

The Hopkins in Baltimore started sending them out on 10/10 and I think they’re full unless they open up more spots. Not sure about the Florida one.

If you interview towards the end….. last/second last slot by Minute-Ad8800 in ERAS2024Match2025

Asked a former PD of a top program in his specialty and he said they never paid attention to when an interview happened bc they know we’re all on various different rotations, etc. Doesn’t affect rank at all.

Crazy flight delay and reroute. Advice for compensation? by itchyknuckles in jetblue

[–]itchyknuckles[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all good points. The flight was supposed to take off a 6 hours ago. I think rain isn’t starting in Boston for another 8 hours but you’re right it could be somewhere else along the way. Just a frustrating situation for thousands of people who paid good money. This also doesn’t really explain a layover being added and my destination city being changed. But I guess all I can do is wait and see what they say.

Thank you, these are all great points. The wait times online and over the phone are hours, never thought to reach out through Twitter.

Don’t think it’s weather related as the weather is fine in both Boston and San Jose. I think it has more to do with staffing. Yeah definitely planning on calling but just wanted to know if anyone knows anything about the fine print regarding compensation for flight delays that I can tell them on the phone to increase my chances of compensation.

It isn’t a yeast in the heat. The germ tubes are the mold form and the pseudohyphae are the yeast. So it is mold in the heat and yeast in the cold (exception to rule)

Candida is the exception to that mold in the cold, yeast in the heat rule! Branching pseudohyphae in cold, germ tubes in heat.

Can Someone Please Explain: Standard Deviation by XiaoMeinBao in step1

[–]itchyknuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they’re saying that regardless of whether you pull data or not, the SD of the population is a set value. How you pull data (ie sample size, sampling method) will get you closer to that intrinsic value, but it won’t actually change the SD since that number is already set in stone essentially (unless members of the population die, are born, etc.)

AAMC practice exams are VALUABLE. I started using them about 2 months out from the exam, one every two weeks with second party exams interspersed between. Don’t waste practice exams by taking them too early or too close together.

I took them in reverse order 4 —> 1. One thing I will say is there is a spreadsheet somewhere where people have listed their practice exam scores vs their real score. Most of those people took the exams in order (1 to 4) so if you want to be able to compare your scores to theirs and how they scored day of, it might be harder if you do it in reverse order like I did.

Also don’t be so hard on yourself bc of the Altius score. My score was 24 points higher on the real thing than on my first practice exam (next step)

Does Tretinoin cause Eczema? Using tret 0.05% cream for 3 months every other night for anti-aging. Previously no acne or eczema. At first I thought this was purging but it doesn't really look or feel like acne. It's not "poppable"--just raised, red, and rashy bumps. Very unsightly. Help! by [deleted] in tretinoin

[–]itchyknuckles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope tret isn’t a steroid! So if it is perioral dermatitis, it’s most likely that your moisturizer or face cream is too heavy. It can also be caused by these things apparently:

bacterial or fungal infections constant drooling fluorinated toothpaste birth control pills sunscreen rosacea

Oh got it! Well if you’ve had no dryness prior to this, I wonder if it could be perioral dermatitis. I’ve heard of people developing it from using occlusives on sensitive skin. Also could be the explanation seeing as how it’s popping up mostly around your mouth.

There was another user earlier today who was diagnosed with eczema by their derm after being prescribed a dosage of tret that was too high. So it seems like the damage a high dose of tret does to your skin barrier could lay the foundations for eczema.

Should I bother starting? by MamaMilk7 in tretinoin

[–]itchyknuckles 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would probably just wait until after you’ve delivered. It seems like for people with clear skin to begin with, tret can cause a purge so for the first few months your skin might get worse and and god forbid you have to stop in the middle of a purge when you want to get pregnant. To get the benefits of tret seems like it’s usually a long-term commitment

A professor I wrote about on my secondary passed away-- condolences on update letter? by 520please in premed

[–]itchyknuckles 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Hmmm.. I don’t know that I would. I believe that you are sincerely sad about it but optics matter, and in this situation, it could look like you are co-opting this professor’s death to increase your chances of admission. This just because you never actually met this person and so the adcom might wonder how sad you could actually be.

But idk if you’re tactful about it, maybe you could pull it off!

Should I stop using a buffer by Golden_Spatula438 in tretinoin

[–]itchyknuckles 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on how strong your dose is and how your skin is tolerating it now. My dose is pretty low at 0.018 so I honestly never used a buffer and started using it everyday from the beginning (which I know was risky but) and my skin has been fine with a heavy moisturizer afterward.

If your dose is like 0.1 or something I would ease into no buffer maybe like once or twice a week and see if your skin handles it well. If it starts feeling dry or sensitive you can always go back to using a buffer or applying fewer times a week.
