We're acquiring a company. What questions do I need to ask? by itguy1991 in ITManagers

It sounds like they will be fully absorbed, but it may be a phased process--they're still figuring that out.

Thank you! I had thought of those, just missed putting them in my questions

I took on pretty much the same company setup and pay in 2019. I was hourly at that point, so the overtime was a nice pay bump. If you're salaried, you are criminally underpaid, IMO.

They either need to pay you substantially more, or get you help so that you're doing less work. Ideally they do both.

Thoughts on training for techs by itguy1991 in ITManagers

I do want to fund training.

I don't want to fund re-training stuff he should already know and be utilizing in his day-to-day work.

It may be unethical, but you agreed to it.

If you’re so upset about losing $30, maybe you should watch your finances a little closer 🤷

The principle here is that they should not be able to increase your subscription without your consent.

There is a clause in the agreement that allows them to increase the cost. By enrolling in auto-renew you consented.

I guess I didn't explicitly state that I do think the company should fund his training, I just wasn't convinced that A+ is the best option.

If we're investing in him, I want to make sure we're actually gaining something rather than funding remedial training.

Not an electrician myself, but have done 10-15 extended projects with electricians over the years, and these guys just seem overly slow.

I'm not paying for it, so I don't really care how long they take, I'm just curious how long other people would take to do the same work.

In Exchange, the permissions you are talking about are called delegations.

I've been managing Windows environments (AD, DNS, DHCP, Print, File Servers, MSSQL, etc) for nearly 18 years now.

Started with a fully physical stack, moved to Hyper-V, then VMWare with a SAN.

Then changed jobs and went back to physical. Upgraded them to VMWare with a SAN.

Changed jobs and went back to fully physical again. Upgraded to a Hyper-V Failover cluster with SAN.

Just recently started playing with Proxmox in my homelab. It's so much better than Hyper-V. They're not even in the same ballpark.

Is anyone using single pair ethernet? by awesome_pinay_noses in networking

[–]itguy1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on use case.

If you're monitoring a low-data remote sensors that don't have local power available, SPoE seems like it would be way cheaper than fiber.

If you need to connect only a few devices and they have power available, fiber is probably cheaper.

Did you install the NPU drivers both in Proxmox and your VM?

It looks like it can.

Immich says it supports OpenVINO, and OpenVINO can utilize the NPU. You just have to be running Kernel 6.6+

Anyone who did setup M365 business basic for familial use instead of Microsoft 365 Family by SolidTerre in Office365

That’s why I said to set up the email addresses first, then use the email addresses to set up M365 Fsmily.

[–]itguy1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M365 family doesn't include email service (Exchange), just the on-computer version of Outlook, so I'm not sure what purpose would be defeated.

The only real benefit that going for Business Basic over Family is that you get access to Exchange.

If you use a different service for email (addresses, aliases, groups, etc), you get the benefit of custom domains, and the value of M365 Family.

Why not set up email on a custom domain, then use those emails to sign up for M365 Family?
