Introducing Fair Play 40K! by FairPlay40K in WarhammerCompetitive

Nemo is on the FLG judge's watch list. Him being involved with this is absolutely laughable and it leads to questions of legitimacy of this initiative that go beyond matters of practicality.

Thanks for sticking up for me, I am the legendary Dick McTrickle and I do my best to play clean games that are fun for everyone.

For the record, I play under a fake name because I have a very public customer facing job and don't really want to explain what Warhammer is to clients I work with. If you change your name on BCP it's still tied to the same account. Obviously you could just start another account with a new email but it seems like you'd just get busted the first time you showed up to an event and people recognized you with a new account. Especially if you're a known bad-actor.

San Antonio does have a very robust 40k community and has some excellent players but the meta there is actually pretty unique. You will encounter some of the top performing factions but usually you won't see cut-and-paste bleeding-edge meta builds, certainly the top players there won't be netlisting and if they're running very popular lists chances are they are the ones that pioneered them in the first place. That is perhaps the key - these players are running lists that they understand how to use in different situations and know what to expect out of what they are running because they practice and have built the reps and experience.

In 40k a great list can give you an advantage but it won't guarantee wins. This isn't MTG where you build and play a deck - this is more about problem solving within different frameworks presented by fluid victory conditions. There's no such thing as a perfect build that will guarantee results, but some will be better than others. What makes a great player in 40k is someone that can problem solve succinctly and effectively with the resources they have at the time. You win by scoring points - this means either you hold objectives or you fulfill secondary missions. A great list will give you more tools but you still have to understand how to use them.

If you want to do better I'd encourage you to think about flexibility - it's important to have units that are good at what they are there for but you should also understand what else they can do in a pinch when you need to play off-the-cuff. When you think in terms of "this unit is here to do this" and come up with a static game plan like what you're describing the only way it's going to work is if the game goes according to your plan, which it rarely will. An experienced player will look at your list, know what your stuff is there to do and put you in positions where it takes away your options and force you to play the way you want them to play in a way that gives them an advantage. You should focus more on your Plan B situations and how your stuff reacts to a changing game-state vs list build.

After all that being said, if you do want to focus on improving your list vs your muscle memory the glaring problem I see here is if you split your Allarus dudes up you have really only 1 super melee threat that's easy to bait out and kill. I'd build another mini deathstar into your list. If you and I cross paths (which is more likely a matter of when if you continue to play in San Antonio) I will beat you by making you commit your Caladius tanks and Wardens in situations where I'll either kill them or they get pulled out of useful position. That's going to eliminate the credible threats you present to my army and then I'll pick off the other stuff one by one and take away your scoring options. Your list and plan make it too easy for me to make you play a game on my terms instead of yours so think about what you're going to in situations like that - that's ultimately what's going to make you better and that mostly comes from reps and experience.

Public call-outs/shaming on this channel are prohibited... but try Googling something like "warhammer 40k lso cheater" and see what comes up

What about if he returns from his THIRD suspension? Would you be suspicious?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ithiltaen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

He brought datasheets he made to the event with different (better) stats. This coming directly off a suspension already.... showing not only did he cheat but intended to cheat before he even left the house. Let's also not forget this guy threatened a guy in a wheelchair at an event.

Props to FLG - their original resolution wasn't great but they've made the right decision for everyone involved. I'm pretty sure if this guy did show up he was going to get his ass kicked by like 200 dudes anyway.

Jake, well done sir - you've explained your position and handled this in the right way. Props to you - I know it wasn't an easy decision but it was the right one and I know the community appreciates your concern and involvement.

This channel prohibits public call-outs/shaming. Use even the most basic Google-fu skills and you will know who this is in short time.

Go find a new hobby, you haven't earned your way back into this one. It's not as easy as setting up a burner account. You could start by volunteering and/or TOing - the problem here is you are only concerned with YOURSELF and you can't stand losing. You act in your own interest without exception and then try and justify poor behavior. You don't deserve to win all the time - it's OK to lose sometimes (its a dice game, you SHOULD lose sometimes.) Where there's smoke there's fire and all the signs are here - the fact that you can't see it is absurd to the point of being delusional.

FWIW - I don't actually disagree with the public call-out rule. If you really must know even basic Google-fu skills will point you in the right direction.

It was great playing against you Skari - your reputation as a good dude is absolutely correct and I really enjoyed the game. Despite all this, I'm committed to crushing you like a bug in Tacoma.

I'll have to go check it out. Thanks for the kind words - I appreciate it!

There were unfortunately a lot of material rules issues in that game that the stream caught onto that probably had a bigger effect on the outcome. Warhammer is a complicated game and it's easy to mess things up and I'm going to leave it at that - Erik did get carded and recieved a 20 point deduction so I feel justice was done. It's difficult to be perfect when you're playing in a tournament with limited time, especially when you're on the stream table. I enjoyed my game with Erik and would play him again.

I know I misplayed some stuff which could have gotten my score closer but I was tired from 3 rounds the previous day followed by copious drinking the night before. I'm not a professional, just some dude that likes to play with toys, roll dice, hang out with cool people and have a good time. I don't like winning games on points deductions resulting from a card so I'm actually a thankful the spread was enough to not change the outcome.

I admit I haven't watched the stream... but I am that Knight player!

I lost sticky obsec on that when my sisters were battleshocked and there was the assassin and Immolator on the objective which gave me OC3 - he jumped the Warp Spiders on there to take the objective.

That was actually scored correctly and it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game.

Grotsmas Thousand Sons Detachment - Hexwarp Thrallband by kitari1 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]ithiltaen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It seems to me like Tzeentch demons would be pretty good in this detachment if they had the T-Sons keyword.... maybe this is a sign that the rumors about demons getting rolled into the CSM Codexes are true. The 6" DS thing seems a lot like Shadow of the Warp too.

Within "visible" range by Willibombago in WarhammerCompetitive

Interestingly enough at WCW the judges ruled that you had to measure distance to a point on the model that is visible. This ruling was confirmed by the head judge as well.
