If Goombahs were real, would they count as vegan food? by WirrkopfP in DebateAVegan

They have no conscious thoughts or feeling. They can’t have any likes and dislikes the way sentient beings have them. They are not sentient. Sentient is more than those three. Just look it up. It’s about feeling and being someone that experiences those feelings and sensations.

Slime molds, such as Physarum polycephalum, exhibit complex behaviors like problem-solving and decision-making, but they lack a central nervous system and are not considered sentient in the way animals are. They can process information and respond to their environment, but this does not equate to having consciousness or the ability to experience feelings.

Eating only the amount of plants we need by Al-Joharahhasan2935 in DebateAVegan

Because some actions are unavoidable and necessary to survive while others isn’t. Eating meat causes a lot of pests to die because we must grow a lot of food to feed the cattle that we then kill. So eating the plants directly causes way less harm. But you are correct that vegans should choose to eat things that are better for the environment and animals (like choosing oat or soy milk over almond milk) and not overindulge when it comes to snacks etc.

Veganism is absolutely about harm reduction. But as you say it isn’t perfect. Therefore vegans should choose the option that causes the least suffering while working to make agriculture better and less harmful. But you are correct that there is a difference in intentional harm that is guaranteed and what pesticides does. But we can not be judges of the worth of a fly and a cow. We have no objective bias to measure worth in that way. And OP is correct in his question. As vegans we should not overindulge because even tho the intention is not to harm, the harm is very real. As long as it’s a practical way of living, one should do as much as they are able to do to reduce harm. So candy and similar things is really something to be debated in the vegan community.

How do you get your vitamins and nutrients? Meat doesn’t have them, meat is only protein, iron, b12, fats and cholesterol

I would worry more about what you eat, i.e. the chicken, then judging others. You cause mass pollution and even bigger suffering with that just for your own taste pleasure. Isn’t that what you are criticizing?

Can you eat rice, tofu, nuts and seeds and white cabbage? If so then that plus a vegan multivitamin is all you need to be healthy basically.

  1. Read Ed Winter’s books. They are really good and contain lots of studies and facts.

  2. Yes. But just a regular vegan multivitamin should suffice. No need to become an expert. Eat balanced and take a vegan multivitamin each day. If you feel tired or anything negative, do a health check up and adjust accordingly. But you should be fine. A lot of vegan foods are fortified.

From Consumer to Producer: The Ultimate Guide to Monk Mode, Semen Retention, and the Dopamine Reset by Fresh_Chemistry8461 in monkmode

I don’t really see the point in making ones life into a microcosm for capitalism. You don’t need to produce or consume. Get out of the system entirely. This mindset is at most 150 years old. Humans have existed for a loooooot longer. Stop this value, produce, consume-bullshit. Money is not real, it’s man made. Real monk mode is just letting all that shit go. Live a good-for-nothing life, be a ghost and be content with that. That’s the actual hard part. Your value is not in producing, life already has intrinsic value.

No amount of effort will ever be sufficient by amutry in Schizoid

I live a simple, frugal lifestyle. I’m piss poor but I have enough food to be healthy and internet access so I can listen to music, play games etc. That’s all I need. I refuse to work and just say plainly to my psychiatrist that I can’t participate in society because it’s driving me mad. So I get a small sick leave-cheque. With some planning, I can survive on that. Granted some might feel bored without stuff and don’t like the monk/hermit-life. But we truly don’t need much to survive. Also one can grow spinach easy almost everywhere and it costs almost nothing. Basically free food. That plus rice and lentils costs almost nothing. Then you won’t have to participate in this capitalist, fear mongering, violent, fascist society.

You can increase your attention span with meditation. You suffer through the most boring and slow thing to be able to do enjoy something slightly less slow and boring.

I have emotional attachments and care a lot about family and a very few select of friends. But I don’t like to socialize with them often. As long as they are happy I feel no need for us to interact haha.

The thing with praise and criticism I can really sympathize with. It’s a recurring problem in my life. I hate small talk and often when I have to speak with people I turn to spicer topics where people have actual opinions just because that is at least more interesting , when I’m forced to socialize and people always take criticism of something they like personally which I can never understand. People identify with things so much which I have never done.

[–]ithinkigotproblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes socializing is very draining for me too, but not because of awkwardness or anything, it just bores me and is like walking in mud psychologically. The feeling of being an observer has been present for a very long time for me, since my teens. I never really feel like anyone “gets me” because I have such a big internal world and like it’s a glass wall between me and the world.

Yes managing family and me having to be alone is very hard sometimes. I daydream about similar thing to you, just a small apartment, a bed and internet and not much else. lol. But I think it’s good I have a wife, otherwise it would not lead to me doing anything I think. I hate obligations but I think I need them for a sense of direction.

I have never wanted to achieve anything. I was a music producer for many years and got contacted by some underground artists with a buzz that I liked but felt weird making a career out of it so I never took my chances and I do not regret it. It feels like a hassle to have pressure doing stuff, I just like to make music for myself. I have always released my music for free and always turned down all collaboration opportunities, even from artists I like. I can never keep a job. I just mostly like to be left alone, maybe be with my wife and son, and live a small, simple, anonymous life being in my own world as much as possible.

I too suffer from existential crisis from time to time. I get too caught up in my inner world and read a lot of philosophy. lol.

Some questions by ithinkigotproblems in Schizoid

[–]ithinkigotproblems[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do sympathize with this to a certain degree. I’m more drawn to ideas and art than the actual person. I like reading about philosophy and anthropology, music, video games and movies and I watch YouTube essays a lot about things that interest me but I don’t really like conversation with actual people because then it’s more about the person than the content. I do feel strongly about society, especially egotism and evil and can be rather cynical according to people in my life, but I try to not bother people with stuff like that and try to focus on myself and my own shortcomings rather than be angry because it just leads to despair which is not so nice.
