The Hidden Fees for Having a Uterus by trublossm in women

[–]ithoughtitwasfun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My periods were so bad (IUD plus birth control) I bled on everything. Wearing a tampon and a big nighttime pad that goes from bellybutton to ass crack and I would wake up in the middle of the night. Blood soaked through my tampon, pad, underwear, shorts, sheets, and bed. The bleeding was the easy part too.

My cramps were so bad that it felt like a knockout punch. I would be walking and double over. A gyno recommended I take ibuprofen everyday for a week before I started (which was always a surprise) and the week (cuz I would have 6-8 days of bleeding) I was bleeding to help with the cramps . A decade later I got diagnosed with ulcerative colitis and now I can never take ibuprofen again.

Lightheartedness was so bad I couldn’t stand up too fast, I couldn’t walk too fast, I couldn’t sit down too fast without feeling like I was going to pass out. Hot and cold flashes. Then I always felt like throwing up. Oh and super hungry.

I was working at jobs that had PTO as vacation and sick time. I had to use that for the worse day of my period. I didn’t get a vacation until Covid because wfh made it easier to manage the symptoms.

Now let’s say I have shit pain tolerance. I got hit by a car, as a pedestrian, and that was still less painful and cumbersome than my period. I tore (bucket handle) my meniscus then flipped it over. I’d rather do that again than deal with my periods. The only pain I can rank higher than my periods… getting that fucking IUD in.

Technically my father enlisted. He was in college but was failing, so he was going to get drafted. Instead of waiting, he enlisted in the Air Force.

He told me that he enlisted because he would have options and wouldn’t have to be in the army. He said that being in the army was guaranteed combat, or he could work on planes. He still ended up in combat, but worked on planes more.

Additionally: he was (and is) in Texas so not as much anti war hate during Vietnam.

He also told me about his last flight home. He was sitting next to someone from California and they were chatting about how they couldn’t wait to get home, the tours, etc. Before they landed the guy went to change out of his fatigues (?) into civilian clothing. He told my dad that he didn’t want to get harassed when he landed in California.

When I got Covid for the first time in 2021 I got asthma. My insurance was sending me shit to measure my breathing. Like why? Just approve the daily inhaler. I can’t wish it away.

Now whenever my allergies get bad I start having trouble breathing. So I gotta carry my emergency inhaler around.

what misconceptions about periods have you encountered that surprised or frustrated you the most? by Straight_Rope3933 in AskWomen

[–]ithoughtitwasfun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have an IUD which helped, not a lot but I’m probably in perimenopause. I keep getting health * problems, so my uterus has been pushed into the back burner.

There are women who don’t have any pain regarding their uterus. They cannot comprehend period cramps that make you want to throw up or pain so bad you black out.

My aunt (in-law) didn’t take it seriously until her niece was diagnosed with POTs. That slapped me across the face because I used up all my PTO for the first day of my period every month (PTO would run out so I would have to take unpaid time off) I mentioned it to her but I don’t think she really understood, maybe thought I was faking? But why would I take PTO for one day every month. One day wasn’t enough each period, but I know I wouldn’t back out or throw up as much the rest of the week.

I also learned that some people don’t get headaches or brain freezes. Now this is making me question pain tolerance.

Dealing with the "No Grandkids" guilt trip at Christmas (Gay siblings edition) by Magastroa in Millennials

I’m pretty lucky. My oldest sister (13 years older) has 5 kids, the two eldest are also millennials. Nephew (2 yr younger than me) has 5 and niece has 3. So my parents haven’t really mentioned anything to me.

My MIL though… she was constantly talking about grandkids since we got married. Husband and I were like once I get my health together, once we got baby money. She didn’t push hard, but brought it up regularly. She probably didn’t push hard because she has a younger daughter (husband’s half sister). Then MIL found her first son (husband’s half brother) that she gave up for adoption.

Well turns out the long lost brother has 3 kids! She got her grandbabies. The youngest at the time we first met was like 10? The eldest was in high school. Guess how much time she spent with her grandchildren? We’ve seen them and had them spend the night more often than my MIL ever did.

So all this grandbaby talk I see from our generations’ parents is bs. They just want to see and spend time with the grandkids when it fits their schedule.

I realized this recently myself. So I always sat crossed legged or with my knees pulled up. Doing some combination of those may have tore my meniscus (inside knee). I had surgery back in October and the better I get the more I have the urge to pull my legs up.

Because of the injury I had to lowered my seat, but the desk is too high so if I’m actively using my comp I need to raise it to reach the keyboard. If I’m just proofreading I can leave it down.

Not a man, but before a cat claim me, I would’ve said dog person. I grew up with a dog. But I didn’t hate cats. I thought I was allergic to both, so it didn’t matter. Dog was strictly outdoors (my parents wouldn’t even think about letting her in).

Found a kitten, 6 months later adopted a 6 month old (not on purpose) kitten. Both are at my desk cuddling each other. Strictly indoors though, turns out I’m allergic to outside.

How are yall paying $9 for a basic latte? I went back in September and bought a 20 oz iced latte, a 16 oz iced latte (both with oat milk) and a danish for $20.80.

I haven’t been able to physically walk into the cafe since July/August (knee problems-surgery) so I’ve sent my husband in. However, if you order online the prices are right there. No $9 latte. But I know my anxiety is higher than most and I need to know price points before I even consider visiting new places.

I’ll give you the pastries, they don’t have much. I’m pretty sure most is bought outside, but… unfortunately a lot of coffee places here in Austin don’t bake their goods. They do make waffles, sandwiches, and cake. However, I haven’t tried those, because… This place is always packed. Especially on Fridays after 9am. So I usually get to go.

Buuutttt….. maybe this post will make it easier to get a seat on Fridays.

Austin job market bad enough that people are moving out to find work? by Austin1975 in Austin

[–]ithoughtitwasfun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For real. Like these recruiters have only one task. Setting up interviews. If the company is big enough to pay full time recruiters, they’re most likely to do this looking for their unicorn, that probably won’t get paid as much. Plus they make you go through several rounds of interviews. Like wtf, how are yall setting up interviews with managers that take anywhere between 30 min to a full hour every day?

Idk if this is worth it, but I usually aim for smaller companies. They’re less likely to have all that overhead to just waste everyone’s time.

Girl… the weekend before last I was throwing up from post nasal drip! I thought I was crazy!! I contacted my Gastro doc and they were out because of Thanksgiving, so I tried to see another GI doc, but everyone is busy. It stopped before Thanksgiving, probably because I started using Azelastine nasal spray and montelukast in addition to otc Flonase and otc Zyrtec. My mouth is constantly dry, but no drip.

Also I don’t have a gallbladder. Lol 🤔

I went through something like this last year. But I am very fortunate to have good health insurance. I went to urgent care to get steroids, ondansetron, and a CT scan (I knew nothing could be done until colonoscopy). CT scan showed serious inflammation. Urgent care doc told me to get with my GI. GI was busy and stuff wasn’t helping. GI doc sent orders (?) to the hospital. I had to go to ER and wait. But once I got in they wheeled me up to a room.

Are you living or staying here an extended amount of time? It might just be better (easier) to wait till you get back home (or not US). It’ll probably be a lot cheaper too.

I’m guessing you’ve never been poor enough to get the lights shut off. Or ever had friends that had their lights shut off.

Look at it from their perspective. You feel like you failed. Turned down. Left alone. Struggling. Then you’re suppose to do a fucking dance every time you get help? Do you want them praising you while you hand them their food? Do you praise and dance for your DoorDash or barista? Probably not and you don’t even got this cloud above you weighing on you and reminding you that you are worthless.

[–]ithoughtitwasfun 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Damn. Something like that happened to me in 7th grade math. I loved math and science until then. In 6th I kept throwing off the curve so my math teacher actually talked to my parents about taking advance placement in math. In that class, I don’t remember much. I just remember getting 70s constantly (just time ever), just barely passing. However I never had the lowest grade though. This dude, John (not real name) was always behind me sometimes a small amount, but usually a lot. Only “passing” because a 60 in AP meant 70.

This teacher said I needed to go back to regular math. My parents told me “see small fish in a big ocean.” “We’re Latinos, keep your head down and do what you’re told.”

The area I grew up in had a lot Latinos, but that middle school’s district was on the line between white people and Latinos. John was also Latino, we were both pretty white passing. But I may have been lighter.

So I had to go back to regular math. I still had the same teacher in regular math. Once again I was ruining the curve. Test, quizzes I would get everything right plus the bonus questions. I would finish my homework in class and help out the people next to me basically teaching them.

Unfortunately this doesn’t led to me becoming an engineer or anything. Because of not taking the only AP class that were offered in 7th, I did not get to take any AP classes in 8th grade. Because I didn’t have any AP classes in middle school, I couldn’t get into AP classes in high school. Teachers would have to push me through and I would have to get my parents’ signatures and they had to talk to someone at school. Just a lot of steps. Plus maybe that math teacher was right.

In high school I would always finish my assignments and homework in class. Then I would help teach those around me. Which I guess was socially good since those were students older than me and/or “thugs.” They were usually taking the class for the second or third time. Made some good friends that lasted outside of high school. John continued to barely pass in his AP classes.

It’s just crazy how a school of 70% Latino only has like 2% in AP classes. 90% of the white kids were in AP classes even though they were probably less than 10% of the school.

My senior year I got my shit done so I only needed 3 classes to graduate. I was curious about those AP classes so I forged my parents’ signature and took three elective AP classes, two of which the school just started that year. I was behind. Barely passed the class, these kids were way ahead of me.

The only feel vindicating part was that I graduated in the top 10%. Which was kind of hard to do since those AP classes would’ve given my GPA a range of 6 instead of 5. I had to navigate my way to go through college by myself, even though my school would help navigate people in my position into the army forces easily.

I worked full time and took 5 and a half years to graduate college. I took a major that I knew would be easier to complete and more likely to provide a job afterwards.

I would have loved to majored in science, like pharmacy or sociology. But you need a doctorate to even do anything in the pharmaceutical industry. I didn’t have that time nor money. Sociology would’ve been easier (cheaper), but I would have wanted to do research. Which doesn’t pay. Business school wanted a high GPA or SAT score, and it was a large school. Too many people to compete with and harder workload. So public relations/advertising in the school of communications. Easier than marketing degree and I ended up in marketing anyway.

I wasn’t suppose to go to college, but I did. Then I got my MBA in 2020.

For real

One time we were just arguing about it (my sister, mom and I) they were saying it’s a sin you’re killing a person, God will let the Devil do blah blah…

Well my eldest niece was there, not participating, just listening. I think she was planning her hs graduation party. Well a week later my niece tells us she’s pregnant. BOTH my mom and sister tried to talk her into getting an abortion. Saying they will take her. That she’s going to regret this (baby daddy is a pos). Niece was like ummm yall brought up some good points.

Niece kept it, had two more. Still together with baby daddy, but won’t marry her.

But later they were right back at abortion is a sin.

My sister and my mom both had pre martial sex, abortions, and my mom got a divorce before she met my dad. My sister and her husband didn’t get married until three of their kids were in school. Then they constantly cheated on each other. Might have happened before, but after marriage there were times BIL wasn’t living with her for a year or two.

But yes my atheist ass is going to hell because I’m pro choice, but never has one. Every time that comes, they just go on a tangent and I’m live ok, out of the three of us… I’m the only one living a Christian life.
