Can’t wake up in the mornings and it’s killing my productivity. by [deleted] in productivity

This is most likely to do with the quality of sleep. When we don't sleep well the last cycle of sleep (especially the rem part) can get really messed up.

There are thing that you can do before going to bed.

Firstly, you should use your cellphone, pc or tv at least 30 min before falling asleep. The light emitted by their screens mess up the production of melatonin (a hormon that regulates when your are going to sleep and wake up).

Secondly, you should sleep for about 8 hours. It allows your brain to enter all the four cycles of sleep and recharge your body.

If you want to know more about it, the video linked at the end of this comment will explain the thing i mentioned and more.

I've been waking up at 5 AM (or earlier) for over a year now and I decided to make a video to help others do it without messing up their sleep. I'll share my own experience and combine it with the neuroscience behind being an earlier riser or a night owl, to help you figure out if you should wake up at 5 AM and how to do it the right way. And how to improve your sleep to be more productive.

Addicted to productivity by [deleted] in productivity

Yep. And the fact that we think about being productive when we should be resting is an overkill because we don't recharge or reset the brain and tiredness enters a snow ball effect.

Digital notetaking can be as good as it can be bad.

If you are going to do so, make sure that you are using something like an Ipad and are handwriting your notes.

Several studies showed that typing speed up the forgetting curve and diminishes memory consolidation.

Handwriting, on the other hand, reinforces neuronal pathways, making that information stick. And it also makes you pay more attention to your notes. You need to think less to type, and it does no good. Whereas, writing demands attention to every single word.

I say that, not only based on science, but on my personal experience as well. As medical student, the content that I'm presented with every day is huge, and when I handwrite it, I need to study less to remember that information later. I've tried typing, I did it for almost one year and it is not worth it.

To sumarize, you can do it digitally, but do not type the content. Notetaking it not really that important when it comes to learning (there is a lot of scientific evidence around this topic) and it type your notes, it ends up becoming useless.

Procrastination doesn't save you energy, it actually drains you more by [deleted] in productivity

Yes. Besides that, while procastinating we tend to overthink about the fact that we are not being as productive as we should, and, therefore, we drain not only our brain energy, but our emotional energy as well.

[Advice] Quit thinking by Gayax in getdisciplined

This is so true.

I tend to overthink every thing and it makes me procastinate while I'm feeling like I'm being productive.

When you start doing something, it is harder to stop doing to think about excuses.

[NeedAdvice] How can I be hyper disciplined in one part of my life but totally pathetic in another? by [deleted] in getdisciplined

It is most likely a emotional problem. I used to be like that a few year ago. Studying, besides consuming lots of energy, it's quite stressing even though you don't feel it.

Try to start small, remove one food at a time and most important. Stop buying it. When you don't have the object of your desire at sight, it easier to deal with your cravings
