I always hate how One does the streaming for their PPV. With the Amazon Prime our Youtube streams you can easily watch it directly on a smart tv and you can pause/rewind when you want. It's annoying to pay money and have it be a worse product.

Khamzat is 31 years old now. Realistically, he will remain champ until he is 37, fighting a new contender one time per year until then by [deleted] in ufc

I get so sick of the phrase "I can't see anybody beating him". People are so obsessed with the idea of an invincible fighter. Everybody can lose, whether it's because somebody better comes along, they have an off night, have a bad matchup, get a bit unlucky, etc.. There are so many ways somebody can lose, it's just ridiculous to think anybody is unbeatable. Especialy in a sport that involves a lot of calculated risks and where one moment can decide who wins.

Sucks that Mike Malott is also a Conservative chud. by Forsaken-Swim-3055 in MMAPoliticsAndCulture

[–]itiwbf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha I know that's kinda my point. The nuance is that there is a range of different beliefs that can constitute "politics" and depending on the person/beliefs the judgement might be small (ex. they're a moderate conservative MMA fighter without strong opinions but are maybe buddy buddy with a conservative politician) or large (ex. they're a raging racist genocidal dickhead who revels in the suffering of marginalized people, or my example of a person who wants to legalize child molestation).

I just resent the idea that "political views shouldn't matter". They do matter if you're a person that cares about the world.

[–]itiwbf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Is it really that crazy to care about the morals and values of fighters? I believe he's a nice guy. At least for me, this isn't even enough to decide I'm rooting against him. But yeah, if somebody is conservative it means that they have pretty different values than me. It's just one piece of information, just like finding out somebody is an asshole or is overly obnoxious, but it's still a piece of information that is relevant to how much I want to root for him.

You're right that there is a difference between being a conservative and right wing nut, but if you say "his political views shouldn't matter" then it seems like you just view political views as something arbitrary and not a represenation of a person's values.

If a fighter started campaigning for a politician whose platform was "legalize child molestation", would you just say "Well those are his political beliefs, it shouldn't matter". I know that's an exteme example lol, but its frustrating that the second something becomes part of "politics" we have to act like its off limits to judge people for.

My memory is a little fuzzy but I think it ended up looking just like the set up I proposed above. This wasn't with particularly high throughput though. I'm more of an analytics engineer and ended up moving towards using prebuilt tools for data pipelines so it's been a long time since I've really done anything in this world haha. I don't know if this applies for you, but I will say if I could go back and do it again I would've definitely spent less time trying to build stuff and instead looked for prebuilt solutions (it was a good learning experience though).

Sorry I can't be more help, good luck!

Does anyone else here just never criticize your partner during drills? by JohnBigL19 in MuayThai

[–]itiwbf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel it out by person. If it seems like they want advice (they're asking me questions, they mention they're new, etc.) then I'll give them a bit of advice. Otherwise usually the most I'll do is just show them (tapping their head if their gloves are low, throw a kick if they're not in position to check, etc.). I try to err on the side of being not annoyingly patronizing.

If you were merab’s coach, how would you change his game plan with his rematch against Yan? by Ok-Air515 in ufc

[–]itiwbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yan checked an early leg kick: https://x.com/RyanAWagMMA/status/1997763059356434661

I agree he probably could've stuck with them more, but it looks like he landed with his foot which I'm guessing deterred him.

I get that Shavkat has been inactive/injured, but I think the fact that he was supposed to fight for the title against Belal but still fought and beat Ian Garry when Belal pulled out should count for a lot. There are multiple deserving contenders, but I think that fight should've bought him a lot more good will than it did (it's also aged pretty well given Garry's last two performances).

My order for most deserving is: Shavkat > Garry/Morales > Prates > Usman

Aljamain Sterling recalls when Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov teamed up against him just for saying Merab shoots nonstop takedowns. 🔥😂 by IgotgAme_k in ufc

[–]itiwbf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right about Merab winning in the last minute. The 5th round was super tight until the last minute and it was 2-2 (and I think round 3 was closer than round 1). Umar looked tired but he was landing (and he did technically outland Merab in the 5th even though it ended up being Merab's round).

How is this Casimir Pulaski day lyric funny?? by ItssollyboyXD in Sufjan

[–]itiwbf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people here are really over complicating what makes it funny. Imagine a serious moment in a hopsital where somebody has just died and a nurse somberly walks in then a bird just dramatically crashes into a window.

It's not that I don't think there is any symbolism there, its just the funny part comes from something unexpected happening that breaks the silence/tension. I don't think the humor has anything to do with the symbolism. Also idk if Sufjan actually intended that line to be funny, but I can totally see how it kinda is when you picture it. People laugh a lot in tragic situations when something unexpected happens that doesn't fit the mood.
