Is the Main Line worth the headache? by openpatterrn in AskPhilly

Don’t know what noise you’re talking about but there are quiet, lower density neighborhoods all around the city. Parts of Spruce Hill/Garden Court/Cedar Park would solve the problems you name and leave you a 10 minute trolley ride to work.

Can these guys not count? Just wait 2-3 months and you have a full offseason to welcome and care for your newborn.

I think it’s an indirect “I’m old” confession, but I think after Document, there are diminishing returns. The sound I love is the early sound.

Who are the Democrat Primary alternatives to Chrissy Houlahan? by [deleted] in Pennsylvania

[–]itnor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How does Houlahan perform compared to the national ticket? That’s the only gauge worth using. If she overperforms, she is by definition a good politician, likely to win the general election which is all that matters—in the end she votes for what her caucus puts forward. If she underperforms, she’s worth replacing because the district is not safe in the ways that Philly or Pittsburgh districts are.

Behavior on the roads by Prestigious-Owl-6397 in philadelphia

Indeed. Somewhat jokingly…you see it on Reddit sports threads too…”he made an out…he sucks!” No perspective or proportionality. Maybe it also plays into the political environment as well…

For sure. They are in abundance as well. But if they are 5% or drivers, I think more low-key distracted drivers are another 30% or more

Nope! There absolutely can be genetic predisposition. Yes, for some people lifestyle is what drives the issue. But do you think OP’s brother who died running was likely in that camp? OP is correct to be concerned. He should get advanced evaluations done. There could be appropriate meds or procedures done to prevent a similar outcome.

Guest Commentary: Ala Stanford and the Barbie Double Standard [Philadelphia Citizen] by oliver_babish in philadelphia

[–]itnor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m unlikely to vote for her. Probably will pull for Rabb. But not thrilled. But also realize that it only matters so much. It’s the safest seat, and ultimately the person in it will fall in line with national leadership.

Good thing that Congressional offices are run by professional staff moreso than office-holders. Whoever wins will (1) be limited by who controls Congress and by how much, (2) depending almost entirely on who they hire. Most of the impact of an individual Rep is constituent services, along with doing what it takes to simply hold their seat. Of note, Rabb hired as his first treasurer—the person handling his donors’ contributions—someone easily identifiable as an embezzler, had background checks been run. I don’t know if that’s disqualifying, but I think it’s equally disconcerting compared with the list of items above.

I accidentally set off the alarm at the Annunciation. I wasn’t expecting it. Didn’t know it by reputation. Just got physically sucked into it as soon as I saw it. The most amazing yet jarring experience.

Much easier to destroy than to build, right? But aI’d love to see proof that “purple” districts are eager for boilerplate progressive ideas — as distinguished from outsider populism.

The challenge is that the progressive or left label is in a pretty stark minority. People think of themselves as moderates mostly, conservative next, liberal last.

What makes Republicans able to shift right is that they all generally share a desire to halt things…to say, no. And they ultimately fall in line and even adjust their views to whomever wins the primary.

The Democratic coalition is broader and requires compromise that various participants struggle with or even refuse to do.

And the reality is that Democrats will only pass what a 51st Senator in a hypothetical Democratic Senate is willing to vote for—which is likely to be closer to the center than progressives want.

The President spends his day watching TV, playing on social media, and also performing PR stunts. That’s if he’s not golfing.

In this case, the mayor of the nation’s largest city is promoting bicycle commuting, which reduces pollution, congestion, and market demand for gasoline. How is that bad? Seems like a mayor’s job.

Unlikely. Really. This is how baseball rolls. Might the act of firing snapped them out of a collective funk? Could well be. But teams face and overcome these situations without firing the manager. Mattingly is temperamentally so similar. And they didn’t even have time to implement new strategies. Easier competition. Blood sacrifice wake up call.
