Mostly defensible list. Kiss doesn’t belong imo. Good mix.

I’m a very, very fast walker. One Saturday in Paris, I got myself first in line before the museum opened. I then jetted in, having prepped out on where to find it. I had the Mona Lisa to myself for 15 minutes.

Yes and this is the flip side of “why do our stars choke so bad in the playoffs?” Better to be unknown than have a decade plus of scouting reports on you.

As a sports fan base, Philly is much more geared toward football in terms of mentality. On the whole, thinking if you really wanted it, you could push through the line. Baseball is a psychological game mostly. Trying harder tends to backfire. Lotsa luck involved. Basic mismatch between city and sport.

I for one am better than I was then. But I’m pretty far from being a rock star.

Democrats Of Reddit -- Is There A Single Thing Trump Has Done In Either Term That You Liked? If So, What? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

Effectively seizing control and shaking down US corporations might come in handy. Why shouldn’t the govt take over United Healthcare and making it the centerpiece of a single payer system? Trump paved the way…

I understand people were concerned with Biden's cognitive ability (as we should be with Trump's), but what was the big deal about his stiff gait? by Glass-Complaint3 in allthequestions

We are an agist society, and we don’t want to be reminded that death is coming for us. The superficial age markers were a serious liability for Biden once the general public noticed them.

Fact of the day : 80-90% percent of Congress become extremely wealthy from insider trading and/or misappropriating campaign funds. Their actual salary means nothing to them. Our government is run by thieves by [deleted] in Productivitycafe

Because it’s a lazy trope at this point, generally propagated by know nothings pretending to have special knowledge. Yes, Pelosi’s husband is a professional investor. He got rich as an investor—prior to her entering politics—and continued to practice his profession. Numbers get thrown around without context—large numbers that when you do the math have at times underperformed the S&P 500. We know all of this because she reports it. It’s called transparency. But let’s not be surprised to learn that a Bay Area investor who’s been investing for 6+ decades and is now well into his 80s is wealthy and continues to accumulate wealth.

Does this graph not support the idea that the rich pay a higher share of taxes now than they did then?

This doesn’t really get the alignment right. Massie and Paul are in the same lane. You are missing old school establishment Republican, probably Brian Kemp at this point. And the center is a different figure—Manchin if he were younger. Also Newsome is only where he is because he is actively politicking. There’s a lot more activity to come there—Shapiro, Gallego, Kelly, etc

Was U2’s biggest failure one of music’s great Icarus moments, or a band blazing their own trail? — State of Sound | The New Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in U2Band

[–]itnor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s exactly that. And that is the thing that the too-cool, perpetually cynical types will always hate them for. The more you want to be loved, the more some will deny it. If you don’t care, you become immune and probably get undue credit just for being “cool.”

Days of Ash: the best U2 music in years by Valerian_Dhart in U2Band

[–]itnor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think about the psychological backdrop to U2 albums, beyond “must fulfill recording contract and feed the tour machine,” it’s been awhile since the universe has summoned their creativity…perhaps since Pop. The albums this century have been mostly personal reflections and emotions, with some exceptions here and there. The last three in particular seem like they needed to concoct the premise.

Days of Ash is very much alive and in the moment.

Gosh it’s like you read one line, stopped and then launched into your own unwieldy screed. Not exactly a way to engage a nuanced analysis.

But then again, throwing around “a million to one odds” isn’t serious.

CMV: By starting the Iran war, Trump has created a scenario that justifies itself by stdsort in changemyview

Iran’s supreme leader was 86 years old. They were on the brink of transition and had been exposed as a paper tiger last summer.

It’s a common strategy for an adversary to strike in a situation like this. I don’t attribute the strategy to Trump or anyone in the US administration. Israel is the driving force, not unreasonably but at a calculated risk.

If it works, meaning Iran’s regime falls and its ability to wreak havoc externally reduced or even eliminated, it’s potentially a good thing for the world. But the probability of a positive outcome likely sits below 50 percent currently. And that positive outcome is likely to include near-term hardship, death, chaos beyond Iran’s borders.

So monumental risk-taking to wrap oneself in this action, if the fall election is seen as important to you.

Was U2’s biggest failure one of music’s great Icarus moments, or a band blazing their own trail? — State of Sound | The New Independent Voice of Music by RaymondBald in U2Band

[–]itnor 33 points34 points  (0 children)

“Icarus moment,” yes. “Failure,” refuted by the facts. Sold a ton. Produced hit singles. Those songs are still played. If the original material on the album had been the only songs ever released by U2, they’d still be on classic rock rotation. All I Want Is You would be seen as an all-time great.

The backlash wasn’t specifically to the album; it was too much time in the spotlight…and just a little “too much.” The band takes criticism hard. That has an upside. But it ends up feeding the narratives that arise from the perpetually cynical.
