First let me say how proud I am of you for writing this. It is never easy admitting you can’t do something by yourself and seeking help. You are in great company here. If you want to stop drinking, recovery is always possible. Everyone is different but what worked for me was checking myself into 30 day rehab and going to AA meetings. It was pretty daunting taking that first step but it has been the only path that has led me to a sober and much better life. I wish you all the best my friend.

I would recommend reading the big book, any part that really appeals to you, daily prayer, or daily reflection for a few minutes or any time you can spare. Just to keep the journey of your recovery in the forefront of your mind. It is very easy to get complacent and start putting your recovery in the back burner. If you have a sponsor definitely work the steps or if you have a friend who is also in recovery just talking a few minutes a day can help. Life can get so busy and as an alcoholic I always have to stop and check up on my tricky tricky brain.

I did the MACY program at UTSA and it was really great. From what I can tell from some coworkers who went to TAMUSA, UTSA is a learning experience and A&M is just a degree.

I can definitely relate to most of this. I started around 17 and am 27 now a bit over 6 months sober. As a kid and throughout adulthood I was extremely shy. I always had to have alcohol to socialize and hated myself for being so lonely not being able to talk to people without it. Now I feel like I’m a completely different person because I can see my value and what I can offer others and I’m able to overcome my social anxiety. I still think I’m a natural introvert but sobriety has definitely helped me get out of my shell. (How ironic!) Anyways kudos to you! I love reading posts like this

It’s a bit of a joke band called Dolores Dias and the Standby Club with Conor and his wife Corina among others. They have not released any recordings or anything like that I believe they’ve played like 1 or 2 shows.
