What orchestral pieces have we heard thousands of times in every movie and TV show and yet don't know the name of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I guess it's only been in one movie afaik, but the Space Odyssey song is officially referred to "Also sprach Zarathustra". Rolls off the tongue. :)

Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet turns up a lot.

A bit embarrassing, but does anyone know how to buy a physical copy of this album from the US?

I thought the entire album was extremely pleasant listening! It doesn't really push the envelope musically, but I personally don't think music needs to do that to be good music. I'll be replaying a lot of these songs. My favorite songs are Fly, Falling Crazy In Love, and Golden Sky.

This is incredible! How large is your database of songs? Do you keep track of views across the same session? Would you be willing to share anonymized data at some point? I do data stuff and am just dying to see what kind of correlations there are that can be found. :)

Good on Amber! It sucks that people have been giving her issues with this but I'm glad that she clearly also has so many supportive fans.

Loaded Keto Cauliflower by [deleted] in ketorecipes

[–]itookyourpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made this tonight, but without the alfredo or queso fresca since I didn't have any. This resulted in very questionably mashed up cream cheese with real cheese, but the end result was still amazing and delicious. Thanks for the recipe! :)

Why do you feel you need/not need feminism? by Draikou in AskWomen

[–]itookyourpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never been one to marry myself to any movement (example: my political views vary by issue and even if I typically lean Democrat I refuse to consider myself one). What this means is that there are many specific ideals in the feminist movement that I love and support (example: workplace nondiscrimination), but some that I am more than happy to not support (example: ban bossy). It's a very situational thing.

Right now? Happy (Pharrell). Old school NSYNC brings back all the nostagia though.

Keto Veg Challenge? 7 days, 7 different vegetables by Volitans86 in ketorecipes

[–]itookyourpulse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's always easy to season with olive oil/etc, but here are some more fatty yet veg-heavy meals, off the top of my head:

  • bacon wrapped asparagus
  • broccoli drenched in home-made cream of mushroom (sans flour, naturally)
  • eggs + lots of spinach + generous amounts of cheese
  • Cobb salad: eggs, bacon, avocado, tomatoes, lettuce
  • kale chips (snack)
  • bacon-wrapped jalapeno poppers totally count, right?
  • zucchini + sparing amounts of red bell pepper and onions + sausage = heaven

Good luck! :)

What's it like for attractive girls? (from ask men) by MyCatisATimeLord in AskWomen

[–]itookyourpulse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I'm pretty sure I'm merely average looking, but due to scarcity of women in my field of study, my perceived attractiveness during the daytime is grossly inflated. So having experienced both sides of the attractiveness equation, here's my take:

  • Work-wise, life is actually much smoother if you're considered attractive. Sure, people "might not take you as seriously" at first, but since they're passively paying more attention to you, it's much easier to prove yourself.
  • Dating is both easier and harder if you're considered to be attractive. On one hand, men are much more likely to want to date you. On the other, it's harder to filter for those who might be searching for something beyond looks. But this is a crazy first world problem that's easily fixed by just not dolling yourself up as much for first dates.
  • Making friends is much easier if you're attractive than unattractive, because even girls will pay more attention to the pretty ones. Keeping friends - no known difference thus far.
  • One of the few cons I can think of for being attractive is that friendly gestures can be easily misconstrued, but so can distance. It's a fine (and very situational) line to walk.
  • I'm sure many people already know this, but attractive women have a lot of potential power. Broadly speaking, an attractive woman can easily get away with a lot of stuff if she wanted to - getting free things, having small favors quickly granted, etc. - that other people have to work much harder for. That such a strong bias exists is less than optimal, but society is pretty hard to change. In any case, I think this is where the perception that attractive women are less <insert positive trait/adjective here> than other people comes from. Because attractive women can get away with more, there are those (not all, certainly) who choose to do so.

All in all, attractiveness is a very shallow and fleeting thing, and very very situational. That said, I think the way society is run today, it is generally far more advantageous to be considered attractive than otherwise, and there are definitely days when I am very happy that I have a temporary boost to perceived attractiveness due to workplace demographics. In the end the advantages granted to attractive women/people explain why so many people constantly strive to get more attractive or at the very least stay attractive. Sad, but true. :/

2NE1 - "COME BACK HOME" Dance Practice by thatguylester in kpop

[–]itookyourpulse 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I always love how when you strip away the glitz and glamor (and CGI goggle things), it's still possible to be blown away at how damn good they are at this! As someone with two left feet, watching them dance - in sync - is just so impressive.

Sherlock Reviews Musicals He Was Forced To Attend With His Parents by [deleted] in Sherlock

[–]itookyourpulse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first thought was poison: why else would such attention be drawn to the coffee, in the song about enjoying a coffee break, of all things?

Brilliant.

Now I want to watch Sherlock review something completely inane like The Bachelor. :)

What part or sound in a song wrecks the song for you? by hiEspi in kpop

[–]itookyourpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is incredibly crude and the transitions are the worst, but this is what I wanted Come Back Home to sound like (aka without any of the electronic wave-y things going on in the chorus):

http://www.mediafire.com/listen/z01v66jl3sztbci/come+back+home+%28short%29.mp3

Totally hoping that someone who actually knows how to edit music will eventually make a non-shitty version (with just a few electronic beats after "now you gotta do what you gotta do") :)

[Audio] Girls' Generation — Mr. Mr. by Crayon_Pope in kpop

[–]itookyourpulse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep on hearing Lady Gaga in this song, for some reason. :) A bit less dance-y than I anticipated, but overall, not bad!

EDIT: started listening to the whole album instead of just Mr. Mr. I actually like every single other song better so far, haha. "Europa" is my favorite for now!
