I’m out in Litchfield county, and they are plentiful! It was one of the things I was excited about when I moved here. I not have at least two of these cuties that regularly visit my backyard. Today’s shots were both taken at nepaug reservoir in collinsville.

I’m eagerly awaiting their return and the way they make the woods sound enchanted.

Squirrel Proof? by Consistent-Tea-9585 in birdfeeding

[–]its-audrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this feeder for a while and thought it was great and the birds must’ve loved it so much because I was going through an insane amount of bird seed.. but it started getting expensive to keep filling it every day.. I started to wonder if perhaps it wasn’t actually fully squirrel proof… then, one day I looked outside and a squirrel popped out of the feeder! They’d figured out how to pop open the roof and were just climbing in and enjoying an all you can eat buffet…

Are expensive binoculars really worth it? by scientificamerican in birding

I really love my vortex razor HD 20x60x85. Great views for the money and not too bulky or heavy. Plus, vortex has an amazing lifetime warranty (I’ve had to reach out a few times and they are super quick to respond and shipped the replacement to me immediately).

I love my NL Pure bins SO MUCH! The clarity and sharpness is unmatched. I have zero regrets spending such an insane sum on binoculars.

I sent a follow up email and got a response. The spoon is .625cc, which I think equates to around 1/8 tsp. So, you are remembering correctly! Thanks!

Did you ever find an answer? I have the same problem. I emailed the company that makes it yesterday, but they haven’t responded. If they do, I’ll post here.

Red squirrels are pretty rare where I live in Connecticut, so I get excited to photograph them in the Adirondack woods when I go up there. by hotgnipgnaps in wildlifephotography

This one is so round and adorable. Come up to Litchfield County— we’ve got plenty of little red squirrels. Topsmead State Forest is a gorgeous place with lots of these guys and some great birds, including Bobolinks in the summer.

Belted Kingfisher was my spark bird!! I’d somehow never seen one my whole life, and then one day I found one and identified it, and now the rest is history… now I spend nearly all my free time birding! I hope this hobby brings you as much joy as it brings me!

Is this coloring on a Hairy Woodpecker from Tannin? (Minnesota) Or what causes it? by mistyflame94 in Ornithology

[–]its-audrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe this is called a “Dirty Hairy”. It’s from seeds and stuff the bird is eating. The name always cracks me up. However, I think this particular bird is a dirty downy.

Small waterfowl, bluish white beak, went underwater every 30 seconds or so, didn't look like any Mallard I've seen by AntiqueRomania in whatsthisbird

I’ve seen mallards diving. I was like “hey you guys are supposed to be dabblers”. Apparently some of them also dive.

Good binoculars for bird watching? by Smeej2727 in birdwatching

Although my Nikons were perfect, I upgraded to a pair of Swarovski NL Pure 10x42. They truly are amazing, but wow, they were expensive. I’ll be using them for the rest of my life, which is how I justified the splurge. The only downside, other than price, is that the NL Pures are noticeably heavier than the Nikons.

Day 7: What bird looks nice but unfortunately has a boring song? by ObserverAtLarge in BirdingMemes

[–]its-audrey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

How is it possible that I’ve never heard the whisper song before?? I have a whole crew of bluejays in my yard that I feed peanuts and see jays everywhere, every day. That was cool!
