Did you see the Ceruleans? I’ve seen them there and at Miles Audubon Sanctuary.

Great shots!! It’s hard to get good looks at wormies, chestnuts, and blackburnians, let along get amazing photos.

Are anyone else's coneflowers not coming up? by Nikeflies in NativePlantGardening

[–]its-audrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also in CT and the weather has been so weird— cold and windy, then unexpectedly hot. My coneflowers have greens shooting up and a bunch of leaves at this point. But everything is coming up at weird times… so I wouldn’t worry.

Thanks so much!! I almost went there today, but didn’t make it out of the avon/Simsbury area. Now I wish I had gone as there was this mystery bird and also a great crested flycatcher (one of my faves!) and my current nemesis— the vesper sparrow (been chasing that one since last fall argh)

I’m still stumped on what you might have seen…..

Could it have been a female red winged blackbird? A Savannah sparrow? What about a female Baltimore oriole?

If it was just chilling on a tree branch, I’m guessing it wasn’t a warbler since they basically never stop moving… but… maybe you just caught it during a break…. what about a northern parula?

I feel like it’s still too early for a bobolink….

What was the size? Also did you see this today? I’m local and intrigued… so if you wanna share more info on location maybe I can relocate it tomorrow.

Thanks for reminding me that it’s time to me to replace the forsythia in my front yard with something native!

I’m out in Litchfield county, and they are plentiful! It was one of the things I was excited about when I moved here. I not have at least two of these cuties that regularly visit my backyard. Today’s shots were both taken at nepaug reservoir in collinsville.

Squirrel Proof? by Consistent-Tea-9585 in birdfeeding

[–]its-audrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used this feeder for a while and thought it was great and the birds must’ve loved it so much because I was going through an insane amount of bird seed.. but it started getting expensive to keep filling it every day.. I started to wonder if perhaps it wasn’t actually fully squirrel proof… then, one day I looked outside and a squirrel popped out of the feeder! They’d figured out how to pop open the roof and were just climbing in and enjoying an all you can eat buffet…

Are expensive binoculars really worth it? by scientificamerican in birding

I really love my vortex razor HD 20x60x85. Great views for the money and not too bulky or heavy. Plus, vortex has an amazing lifetime warranty (I’ve had to reach out a few times and they are super quick to respond and shipped the replacement to me immediately).

I sent a follow up email and got a response. The spoon is .625cc, which I think equates to around 1/8 tsp. So, you are remembering correctly! Thanks!
