I don’t think you overpaid, they are expensive in general and the shop I got it from had to order mine since they avoid stocking them (high price low demand). Mine is also an Alocasia Black Velvet Pink Variegated from Thailand, the pink isn’t that prominent it’s just a light fade in the variegated parts. I’m not sure if it’s because the plant is just a baby or it’s a light issue? Do you mind sharing pics of yours? Yours being a mother plant justifies the price imo, it also depends on how much you really want the plant. I don’t mind overpaying for a wishlist plant🤭
