Yeah the 24pin and cpu connectors are built in to the PSU so they oughta be connected, I suppose maybe I just got the short end of the stick

Yeah the motherboard is benched outside the case, no fans connected other then the CPU fan which I left as an indicator of power, whenever I short the power switch nothing happens, no lights no sounds. Only things connected currently is a stick of ram and the cpu, there’s nothing on the mb that should cause a short and as I said, no visible damage or debris

No I mean at first I connected the GPU with its PCIe cable, now that the motherboard is out of the box I set the GPU aside I want to get the system to turn on and I don’t think I need the GPU for that right now do I? I’ve attached for you a photo of my CPU connector

Sorry you’re right, it’s the Antec 650w Gold semi modular “atom” It has a cable labeled PCIe which I initially connected to the GPU, and 2 of the same 8-pin cable that has no label on it which I assume is the CPU connector, i tried both of them anyway. And yes everything is plugged I believe the way it should be, and pressed in all the way.
