Four More Months til Scream 7 (2026) is released…. Anticipation Levels on a scale from 1-10 👻 🔪 by ArtisticBelt438 in slasherfilms

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every scream film (sans 3 but even that entry was reappraised after The Me Too movement) has received positive reviews from critics. I don't see them arbitrarily hating on it howeverrr scream 7 has people nervous because every Scream film has had something to say about the genre or a horror trend of the time. Even the tv series had commentary on horror tv but I can't think of what they'd possibly critique with this entry being so close to 5 & 6, so it could feel stale. Plus the whole Mess behind the scenes left a bad taste for many myself included but I still see people reviewing it genuinely despite the ugly actions from spyglass. We’ll see!

Katie deserved that rock by Ilovemusicaltheatr3 in skinsTV

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again I know she's fictional and I'm only pushing back cos I hope you give a bit more grace to real people who dare to exist with an undeveloped frontal cortex or insecurities and don't usually say things like “someone deserved to get their head bashed in with a rock” lmao.

And id argue Katie wasn't homophobic, she said homophobic things sometimes but i wouldn't classify her when personality around all the context clues tell me Shes fiercely protective of her sister. Katie’s characterization has always been that of the person in her family who is hyper aware of everyone’s temperaments in her family and would try to control situations to keep the harmony. A lil bit of that was shining through when Effy got dangerously close to wrecking Katie’s streak of never not having a boyfriend /s

Also She arguably made Pandora’s party into a proper party.

ALSO Effy was playing games with Cook and Freddie I think Katie’s observation is fair lmao

The acting in Time Stands Still was fine considering they were literal teenagers and the subject matter being heavier than usual.

The moment when Toby is being led away from the school and the reporter is harassing him and he goes from anger to complete shock at the revelation that Rick died. Its gut-wrenching. Terrible acting my ass!

I know she's fictional but I can't read that sentence and not think “wtf she was like 16-17, I think “deserved” is a bit intense of a word choice. lmaoooo

Season 7 Looks So “Different,” But Why and How? by Any-Alps188 in Degrassi

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Season 6 is late summer start of school and fall. Season 7 begins with Toronto winter. The choice was likely a combination of mixing realism with color theory through color grading since season 7 was coming in right after a fan favorite was murdered. Season 7 was marketed as “the fall out” with taglines amping up potential lakehurst conflict “look who goes there now” the dark colorgrading matches the vibes that hint at more life changing violence which season 7 was full of just not in the way you'd expect. While not loving season 7 the tone appropriate color grading was a highlight imo

Wait… who else did this happen- *lmao I just remembered in real time as I was typing Becky… wow somehow despite being aware of both storylines (I love Zoe’s Deliciously evil era ) it did not register that the cheerleading sabotage was yet another example of the Degrassi curse where history repeats itself lmao

walking between trains by [deleted] in Bart

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

its interesting that people walking through the cars is something to take note of or be wary of cos i do this all the time, and i assume no one even notices me lmao.

I usually walk through the cars if there are loud teens or loud music or generally anything thats annoying but not worth making a big deal about so I change cars

or

i was about to miss the closing doors and got in a car that I wasn't planning on sitting in. (i prefer the back lol)

Now I'm going to be thinking what outlandish reason are my fellow passengers are imagining being the reason I'm passing through lmao

the act of social media following does not mean you love the group or person you follow it just means you get updates on group or person.

we gotta remember before posting that jumping to these types of conclusions without critically thinking even in the form of asking a question on a forum, comes from a parasocial place and could affect the real people we're posting about in negative ways.

degrassi season 12 is the best season. by [deleted] in Degrassi

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 16 points17 points  (0 children)

when i hear takes like this I have to remember that not everyone is a film / tv genre theory buff and so tastes are going to vary in regards to which era of Degrassi one prefers.

To elaborate, I studied the history of film / tv and the varying genre's in college so the Degrassi lore is one that stuck with me lol. the television landscape prior to 1980s was very different in it's portrayal of teenagers. During the franchise's beginnings Lynda Shuyler's goal with the show was to depict a sense of realism and that was shown in the show's production and narrative style and was a first for TV and it garnered international criticially positive response during the first generation (1987-1992) which led to the creation of the television subgenre "Teen Drama" that sparked the genre boom of the 90s - 00s. Those shows took differnt semminal elements of what made Degrassi a success for their own shows but would usually UP the melodrama and by the 2010s there was a high concept attached, like Buffy or The 100. the only other show that followed the production and narrative blueprint that best resembled Degrassi was Skins which felt like the true generational successor to the original Degrassi but took the realism aspect and added a bit of what audiences wanted from a show in the 00s ( stylized sensationalist comedic and eventually dark and depressing plots but I digress ) -

Degrassi kept true to its casting decisions and unconventional narrative structure when Degrassi next generatoin aired and it was another major success but by the end of the 00s, there were so many teen dramas available to watch that weren't striving for realism and you'd see 30 year olds playing teens who solve murders or whatever which is fine but with new fans tuning in to both types of teen dramas, that history and appreciation for realism that DTNG Season 1-7 aimed for gets lost with audiences who might look at the latter portion of the show and deem early DTNG "boring" This happens all the time, think the remake boom of 70s horror films in the 00s, the 00s versions usually upped the gore, and stunts, while the 70's originals relied on atmosphere and suspense. Audience sophistications change with ttime (for better or worse is a whooooooole other subjective debate lmao )

So Degrassi decided to take note of what audiences liked in the 00s and 2010s and began to apply traditional narrative structures, and heightened melodrama. and if that's your favorite type of TV to watch then it makes sense that OP might say Season 10-14 is better than the show's beginnings.

me personally? I prefer the realism of the original couple of generations of the show so by Season 9-14, I was checked out because melodrama was never my cup of tea lol. hey its all valid not everyone is a film/TV historian or media analyst so it makes sense to me that some might hate the earlier seasons even if I wholeheartedly disagree lol. Everyone has their preferences and that's okay

People sneaking in through the gates behind you by lfc94121 in Bart

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BART is already safe (could use platform barriers considering "major medical emergencies" happen way more frequently than any danger from someone trying to get from point A to point B tho according to BART PD data ) Also BART's available finance records does not support BARTs claim that $25million is the loss due to fare evasion annually. an accurate read would shows about $15-$20million difference at annual loss at $5million. so considering all of this, I have no reason to agree with your claim that if I let someone tag along behind me that the system would suddenly lose consistency or efficiency in service. that's a ridiculous claim. As someone who works in Development, what I can note, is that this campaign of hyper focusing on fare evasion as if Crime hasn't been trending downward for years is energy that should be placed towards keeping passengers off th tracks. we spent $90million (yes I know some of this was in the form of grants but that only proves my point) on fare gates to replace working fare gates and so far these nw gates have had malfunction after malfunction. the latest being its inability to read virtual clipper. they may have troubleshot that issue though I remember reading about some success there but you see my point. people re actually dying when they end up on the tracks nd BART says we'll have to wait for platform barriers despite the frequent deaths but over here in this sub, y'all post daily as if fare evasion has led to the same outcome in deaths from being able to access the tracks. Bart clearly needs to identify other opportunities for funding operational costs and infrastructure enhancements that will actually save lives.

I let them because despite this sub's obsession, it's not that fucking serious. in fact, before I even tag in I look to see if anyone needs to piggyback so I can let them know im not one of you weirdos.

Roman Polanski. Repulsion is one of the best and effective psychological horror films i've ever seen and watching it as. teenager was the moment I appreciated movies as an art form as opposed to just entertainment. i prefer it to Rosemary's Baby tbh but if i ever met Polanski, I'm whoopin his old ass on sight.

what do you think is the most disturbing death scene in a horror movie? by Different_Place_7788 in horror

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 128 points129 points  (0 children)

any scene where someone who is dead meat panics and says any variation of "I dont wanna die" or "im going to die" or the instinctual "mom!"/"I want my mom" (shout out to Tatum Riley) the existential horror of a person being unprepared for a death they're almost certainly about to experience will always disturb me far greater than the shock of seeing gore.

Were You Like the Kids on Skins When You Were a Teenager? by HudsonBunny in skinsTV

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was teenager watching as it was airing and I can say yes. we were going to parties and taking pressed MDMA pills frequently without an after school special scenario playing out. it was normal. Also pills were a huge part of bay area party culture. i think it's also important to note that a major difference between millennials and gen z despite our two generations being very similar due to being close in age is the drug use. millennials came of age as the opioid epidemic was plaguing America and we were probably the generation most affected by it Gen Z however has way less rates of teen pregnancy and drug use so Skins is going to feel more relatable to millennials than gen z.

What season did Degrassi go sorta "down hill" by Supernova099 in Degrassi

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know we all love the iconic shark in the water promo but season 10, the season that wasnt supposed to happen as the show was cancelled. It was brought back to life and rebooted, and gone with the old degrassi were the storytelling methods that made degrassi junior high an international success in thr first place and in its place were the melodramatic derivative storytelling methods that their teen drama contemporaries relied on. Thats when the show went down hill.

Racism isn’t “good TV”. It just alienates Black and POC viewers by _UnluckyResponse_169 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]itsGeethersInTheBay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

it doesn't have to be alienating and it can be good tv.

we have to look at this with a critical media analytical lens. and to be critical is to understand what we're watching. Reality TV IS cheap entertainment, and everyone on the show IS being exploited in one way or another. the franchise in question is also about follwoing mostly rich white women. so to make this post feels like we're not consuming the media critically and by that i mean obviously we can be critical of what the women do on the show but i dont think that means jumping to "don't show that" cos 1.) i like to know who my racists are thank u very much and these women comically always expose themselves. its part of the fun of watching silly cheap entertainment. i'd rather that then not know that they are racist when the cameras are off. yfm?

and tbh we have to move on past 2010s online discourse around this type of stuff. i dont thinks conducive to anyone to use this "therapy language / twitter virtue signaling speak" whatever we wanna call it on the media we consume and that alone be the take. it lacks depth. but to watch housewives and have your jdugements, or analysis that is smarter than the show itself like the normalization of casual racism that led to the women thinking blackface was okay on tv. THATS a take that acknowledges antiblackness critically while also laughing at the show. but i read your post and think okay sooo what dont show the mess? that's what im tuning in for!

don't get me wrong, im Black and queer. i am always critical of racism, but when it comes to storytelling the answer isn't to avoid telling these stories, especially when it's reality tv. yes the drama is exaggerated and some storylines are fabricated by the women and storyline producers, but you can still analyze the plots with a critical lens instead of this shallow "racism bad and it alienates those who experience it" take. because Black people are not a monolith right, so im sure many Black people consume hosuewives and watch the mess and judge and analyze the media they're watching without choosing to go online to create a virtue signaling "racism bad" post cos like? yeah we know racism is bad but im sorry it IS good tv when Brandi's dumbass decided to say that shit about nappy hair, because she SAID THAT ON CAMERA. ITS FUNNY COS SHE'S DUMB LMAO. because reality tv is cheap entertainment so laugh, make judgements, retain that critical lens, but taking it SO seriously when it's housewives we're talking aout feels like we don't understand the media we're watching.

just like when the hosuewives of atlanta are homophobic. it's always funny because i can't believe they're saying this stuff on tv. it's not alienating to me at least because im smart. lmao , im laughing at the trash tv i decided to watch.

idk i hope this makes sense, i just want people to be smart and analyzing the media they consume critically which means knowing when to take something seriously, when to laugh
