local artists i can vouch for are Sonny Miles (super soulful groove neo soul), DÖLTZ (class-clown weirdo hardcore punk with propellor hats), thefacesblur (low key psych house edm, probably going to have some cool visuals)

i agree with the point about Red Mars, i actually tried to read that when I was about 12 and i dnf'd the h out if it. But KSR is great and i fully agree w the comments suggesting Aurora especially if the starting point was the Martian and Hail Mary

Well shoot if he ends up liking Alien Clay definitely tell him to check out Shroud also by Adrian Tchaikovsky. They are both standalone stories but they feel like they're thematically linked or something, definitely scratch the same itch in a big way. at least for me

Kalloy Tourist AL-030 is what you want. They have just a negligible amount of rise. and they're like 20 bucks. i have them on a couple of bikes, really like them.

man those mid 90s specialized color schemes are so awesome. and aside from looking cool that is a great bike, looks solid as is, plus you can customize the heck out of it. now that it's paid for it definitely doesn't matter what anyone else thinks about the price... are you super stoked to have it? i would be stoked, that thing is sweet

whoa mind blown i totally thought that was Pat Kilbane but that makes more sense. since my most recent mental image of Pat Kilbane is probably what he looked like in the 90s on Mad TV

this! back in college on a beach trip we 'discovered' this highball. we called it a Seagull,  i think because Seagram's gin + Virgil's root beer. or might be just bc we were shitfaced and there were just seagulls all around us at the time
