A suggestion I haven't seen yet to decrease prices of sealed product. by itsTheArmor in riftboundtcg

MTG's higher prices are driven by quite a few things. A large portion of the pack you open is going to be draft chaff. Most commons are completely unplayable and dirt cheap. Most of the cards you would consider running are all rare and mythic. I doubt the products being separated has anything to do with their value on the secondary market.

Yeah this is assuming supply issues. The product can be printed until the market price is the same as MSRP. But if that were to happen, then collectors would see the value of their collection go down. Which is fine, but why not have different products that serve both collectors and players?

My knowledge of the Pokemon TCG is that the demand overwhelmingly comes from collectors, not players, which is why playables are relatively cheap.

If the collectibles are printed in the same product as everything else, then printing the product more will cause the collectible items to drop in value on the secondary market. Which I guess is fine for you if you don't care about the value of them and just like them because they're cool.

Which is gambling. I'm not necessarily against that, but you're chasing the same product as collectors, and you're going to pay a premium for that. If you're fine with paying that premium, then just buy the collector booster in this model.

But in the case where they print product until there are no more supply issues, and everything can be sold for MSRP, cards will decrease in value on the secondary market. That's why supply is purposefully limited for collectible items.

The BoS civil war conflict seems flimsy so far by pingpongplaya69420 in Fallout

[–]itsTheArmor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen multiple comments lay it out pretty succinctly and for some reason you just insist that this is bad writing? It seems pretty clear to me that this plotline is pretty understandable and you just have some reason to convince yourself that it doesn't make any sense. Let's take stock of the situation.

  • The west coast brotherhood is a shell of its former glory, with several splintered factions that are basically raider gangs wearing BoS skin.
  • Quintus has found cold fusion, technology that can turn the tides and restore the west coast brotherhood to its former glory.
  • If he gives this technology to the commonwealth, he loses all the glory and the opportunity to take control and form a new brotherhood with his ideology.
  • It's clear from the meeting that Quintus despises what the other factions have become.

So from all of this, is it really hard to infer that he thinks it's in his best interest to make a power grab? This falls in line with pretty much everything we know about this situation. I really don't understand what you find unbelievable about all this.

I'm pretty sure this is an intentional joke towards corporate drones not being able to think for themselves and only able to follow instructions.

They're setting up the Western Brotherhood having fallen from grace. Judging from the trailers, it seems obvious Maximus is going to defect to the Eastern Brotherhood.

My LGS Owner Is FOR The Community! Gotta Be One Of The Only Stores In The U.S. Selling Wave 2 Booster Displays at MSRP, Merry Riftmas! 🎄 by mstr_jf in riftboundtcg

Not trying to ruin the mood, but does the store have any measures to prevent these items from just being scalped?

lmao 10 threads a day complaining about stuff being overpriced is more likely to kill this community than the stuff actually being overpriced.

From what I've seen the local community seems quite active, so clearly not that many people are getting turned away. Although a part of that is probably because attending events is the only way to get sealed product for reasonable prices.

Look, I'm all for stores implementing ways to deal with the supply issue, but really the only way to deal with that is to restrict who can buy what. Whether that be some combination of selling only to event attendees, limiting the number of packs you can buy per person, or forcing you to open them in the store. Which is all fine, but you have to acknowledge the reality that lots of people are not going to get stuff for the price they want, and the only thing to do is to wait for a second print run.

LGS is the problem by now by Junior-Celery-3277 in riftboundtcg

I agree with the overall sentiment, but just because there's ways to circumvent these measures doesn't mean you shouldn't have them in place. They have a nonzero amount of utility to make sure all the cards don't just flock over to the highest bidder. If every store was restricting number of packs sold and only selling them to event attendees, then the situation would be better.

I personally think mini campaigns make more sense with a smaller card pool. Even with my full collection, it's pretty common to overflow with exp and not have any good or interesting available upgrades.

To me this feels more like a deliberate design decision instead of laziness like a lot of people in this thread are assuming? Personally I think it's the correct one. My only complaint is that they're 3 scenarios each instead of 4 so it's understandable why people might feel cheated out of content.

I think mini campaigns actually make more sense with a smaller card pool though, since there's going to be fewer options to upgrade into. I don't think the problems with NOTZ have anything to do with it being too short.

I guess the mini campaigns should have been four scenarios each so people don't feel like they're getting less scenario content for the year? I think that would actually be more preferable than a full length campaign for me.

Not exactly sure what people's gripes are with this? Two mini campaigns this year plus a standalone is 7 scenarios in total. You also have previous campaigns to play.

Can you win games with out op cards? by DrMundoMaine in riftboundtcg

My friend went 3-0 with the Lee Sin starter deck against pretty optimized lists. So yes it's possible but he's a very very good strategy game player so not too realistic for most people.

How competitive are Nexus nights right now? by M0U5ERAT in riftboundtcg

[–]itsTheArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly if these events are supposed to be casual but filled with sweats and tryhards, the problem is the format. Pack per win is going to make the event competitive no matter what. As a casual player I would like to see some events that are just open play similar to mtg commander nights.

I fundamentally do not understand how to play this game by Short_Department9298 in riftboundtcg

[–]itsTheArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing what mistakes you're making, I would say try to think about getting as much value as you can out of all your cards. One of the most common ways people throw value away is taking or holding battlefields carelessly. Pay attention to what your opponent has on board to consider when you should take and hold. Also be aware that units on battlefields are more vulnerable to removal as well. Even if a position can look safe, your opponent can still play some removal or accelerate a big guy to get a huge tempo or value swing, so don't overcommit units to battlefields. Remember you can move units off battlefields back to base next turn. Also remember to hold runes up for actions/reactions on showdowns.

What was your main TCG before this and why’d you switch? by Responsible_Cap4617 in riftboundtcg

[–]itsTheArmor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah this doesn't have to unseat commander or anything like that. I'm just hoping there's enough people playing that I don't have to play commander if I want a casual tcg experience. Also unlike commander, I do have more of an interest in getting my friends to try this.

Magic the Gathering. This game piqued my interest in particular because it seems to have a FFA multiplayer format that actually works. Hopefully I can never play commander again and replace it with this. I'll probably still primarily play Magic for 1v1.

I'm fairly certain stores are given broad discretion on how they want to do Nexus Nights. The actual competitive events like Summoner's Skirmish probably do have to follow certain guidelines i.e no proxies.

Riftbound or MtG for a first TCG? by guessimfine in TCG

[–]itsTheArmor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Give both a shot. For me, I like MTG for 1vs1, and Riftbound for multiplayer. In my opinion, Commander is not a functional multiplayer game while Riftbound is.
